You got an honorary mention in the first post. Your dismount meant you didn't warrant inclusion in the thread title. :p

I hope to put some finishing touches to my new bike this weekend. It's 9.6kgs out of the box with standard flat pedals. Ordered a 38 narrow wide chainring today, have replacement rear brake lever, carbon tubs & tub tyres, spd pedals. Expecting around 8 kgs with those changes. Will throw up a pic when it's finished

Cross folk are pretty laid back, so cross anything really. cross town, cross thread, hot cross buns, Crucifixion? Out of the door, line on the left, one cross each ...

I thought I told you already

It's a sensa fermo sl touring. Aluminium frame, carbon fork, 11 spd 105. The claimed weight (sans pedals) was 9.3 kg, and actual weight with pedals is 9.6, so it was pretty spot on. The brakes are not great but will do for now. I will see what they are like with swissstop yellows. I am thinking of maybe some TRP cantis when the credit card recovers.
The wheels and tyres look sturdy (heavy) and will do for training. May change the saddle aswell, not sure yet.

jaysis, robfowl has some dodgy taste in music!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

re tips - I found that my mount & dismount last week was not up to the level it was previously, so I will be working on that. You can make a good deal of time in mounts and dismounts. I will also be working on the technical stuff, like tight turns, bike handling on loose ground, etc. Apart from that, high intensity short intervals with little recovery seems to be what people recommend for cross specific stuff. Oh, dont forget shoulder barges and bumping off other riders and staying up! :)

@robfowl - must arrange to meet up with you for a training session.

Practicing this for the last two days, my inner thigh is quite sore now.... :/

Commute hard! That's my main training - from lights to lights, all out :D

You can give me some pointers tomorrow. Don't tell Lenny, I have a feeling he's not the biggest fan of your technique. (I think the kick in the arse was what gave it away.)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Alek

I have no technique, there is nothing to be a fan of :P

But I can show you how I successfully managed not to land on my jewels 50 times in a row yesterday, to the amusement of many buggy-pushing-mammies around the Santry park.

2 years in a row Lennys better technique resulted in him passing me at Grangemount. First dismounting on the right to get a better line out of the boards and this year a far better technique riding over the bumpy grass section

I know, but he took early retirement from teaching me so I have to take what I can get...

    it's all in the technique.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Alek

I suggest a poll: technique vs engine

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

ok, it's not all in the technique, but a lot is in the technique. You can loose several seconds a lap dismounting and mounting inefficiently. Over 6 laps that adds up.

I didn't realise there were that many races. That's great.

Á propos of exactly that, I think I've just bought this, which, unlike my brother, actually is quite heavy. But it's all relative I suppose :)

Now I need a pair of spd shoes. Any recommendations for something stylish and cheap?
