Not in every other country. It's not a bank holiday, and they'll just call it Nintendo Switch release day.

Count me in for an antisocial switch paddys weekend!

Yeah but... I know Ireland isn't the centre of the universe, but that feels like a bad day for a big console release.

Yeah they're fecked if they go with that day as ourselves and Monserrat will be too busy watching the parades and drinking. Bad lauch sales so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭VelcroGhost

It's the perfect day, we'll all be off work... unless you work in Smyths or Argos or somewhere the Switch (and Zelda!) will be on sale.

I don't work retail, but I've still to work Paddy's day. Don't drink, and wouldn't be bothered with the parades, so I don't mind so much. But if it's the Switch release date... That'll be annoying.

Man imagine the midnight launch. Thats gonna be awkward.

I think Dara Ó Briain had a bit about how the 2003 invasion of Iraq was meant to happen on March 17th. He pictured news outlets cutting to different countries to gauge reactions, finally getting to Ireland which has marked the invasion with a number of parades and giant Cú Chulainns.

Instead of BBC/Sky/etc., picture a confused Nintendo HQ...

I don't think it matters when it launches. Those who are following it will know enough to pre-order or queue up, those who don't wouldn't have picked it up on launch day anyway.

I think Nintendo would be pleased to see us all decked out in Link-green for the day.

Might even give us our own stand-alone online store, given our obvious empathy with the characters. Happy Link Launch Day everybody!

It would be a good idea for Nintendo to put a Zelda/Switch float in the St. Patrick's Day parade. It would create great publicity. Perhaps give out free T-shirts, pens, badges, etc as they're going along. Won't happen though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

That would be a relatively cheap way to get on TV in quite a lot of different countries... but they'd do it in New York, not Dublin.

They should give out large leather pouches.
"The switch costs $299 but my pouch only holds 100 rupees"
Problem solved! Now go smash some pots!

Well, if the launch is the 17th then we'll have it at midnight on the 16th, so happy days.
The 17th would then be spent parade free, with Nintendo fans emerging only for the odd pot noodle and toilet break as they work their way through Hyrule once again.

^ Are we assuming Zelda is gonna be a launch title so? And launched the same day on Wii U? Nintendo hate Wii U so much, maybe they will delay that a couple of months.

Eh...have you forgotten what the Switch is?
Toilet breaks are a thing of the past! Simply detach and bring the Switch with you. Simple.

I think Zelda will definitely be there for launch. Considering it seems like its practically finished already.

Smash Bros, Mario, and Splatoon: Nintendo Switch Launch Titles Leaked

Industry insider Laura Kate Dale has been very busy the past several hours dropping new details about the Nintendo Switch. Aside from leaking info of the alleged launch date, Dale reported that the Nintendo Switch will support NFC ID cards — which would be an industry first for any existing console on the market.

Essentially the card would allow you to easily download content from your friend’s personal device, allowing you to get anything from new characters to digital games downloaded through the e-shop. It’s speculated that this rwill minimize the potential battery drain while Nintendo Switch is in portable use.

Although a basic card will be reportedly included with the Nintendo Switch, consumers can purchase additional cards for $10.00, while customized cards are said to be made exclusively via Nintendo’s website.

Dale also dropped details about several upcoming titles that will be launched on the Nintendo Switch in the form of “Directors Cut” Editions. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon will be among the first to be rolled out as a premium edition for the Nintendo Switch.

All the games will include any previously released content, in addition to a whole new set of extras. According to the website MobiPicker, Nintendo is working with retailers to provide a trade-in system to upgrade their physical copies of the Wii U edition for free or a discounted price at the very least.

The Switch edition of Super Mario is said to be an amalgamation of previous 3D Mario adventures, described as a cross between Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. MobiPicker offers the following summary:

Some levels will connect into each other ala Banjo Tooie. For example, the ice hub may have a 2D level that connects you to the desert level. There is a new collectible that will unlock hats/ powerups/ allow access to new levels (a la metal boots in 64 to sink and access new areas). 2 Player co-op with Luigi will be possible with Joy-Cons.

Between our previous report and the latest details touching upon the upcoming launch titles, will any surprises be left before Nintendo has the opportunity to fully disclose everything?

Nintendo know people won't hand in their physical copies - double sale!

Wonder if they'll do something similar with download versions, where you can upgrade to the Switch version for a small fee? (Like they did with Wii -> Wii U virtual console titles)

Think they're confusing the Iron Boots from Ocarina of Time with the Metal Mario cap from Mario 64...

Apparently that article has no links to anything LK has said, so its rubbish. Also that trade in program is fake as anything.

    Ya seems a bit weird.

But then Mobipicker had an article but the link doesn't work anymore.

But if you Google the cached version you will find some of the above information and more.

Ubisoft Tease “Surprise” Nintendo Switch Game In Development

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has frequently showered Nintendo Switch with praise in the past few months, and continues to tease a game in development for the console that will “surprise” players.

This is increasingly expected to be Beyond Good & Evil 2, a reboot in development at Ubisoft Montpellier that will release as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2018. That rumour has been one that Ubisoft had once swiftly moved to silence.

“With the design and the unique abilities of the Switch, Nintendo should revolutionise again the way we play,” Guillemot teased (translated by NeoGAF’s LordKano). “Ultra-accessible, this console will offer to all of us the liberty and pleasure to share our game experience and to play anywhere and at any time.

“The Ubisoft teams who are creating games for the Switch are inspired by all these new possibilities, and I’m very happy that we can continue to make big things with Nintendo. In addition to Just Dance 2017, I’m thinking especially about a game that will surprise you a lot!”

Ubisoft: Nintendo Switch Represents “True Innovation”

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has hailed Nintendo Switch as “a true innovation,” praising the opportunity that it will provide players in being able to take their home console experience on the go.

“The March quarter will also see the release of the Nintendo Switch. As we have already said, we think the platform is great. For the first time ever, players will be able to continue their home console experience on the go while travelling or commuting. That is a true innovation,” Guillemot enthused in Ubisoft’s first-half 2016-17 earnings conference call.

Ubisoft is optimistic that the home gaming system can succeed, looking to how well the Nintendo 3DS has performed despite an increasingly dominant threat from mobile games.

He continued: “Second, most importantly, despite the huge competition from mobile gaming, Nintendo managed to sell more than 55 million 3DS since its launch. The Switch will benefit from this extreme demand for Nintendo games on a dedicated handheld platform. If its potential is reached, then Ubisoft, as the leading third-party publisher on Nintendo consoles over the past ten years, will benefit disproportionately from that.”
