Just a correction to the date - it will be the 13th for us Europeans - actually Friday the 13th for any superstitious folks out there:

So it's some stupid time of the morning for us? Or it's gonna be streamed at a different time?

    Woohoo!
    That's my birthday!
I'll be celebrating my 45th and reading about my new console all in the one day!

Of a little concern though is that this reveal is only 8 weeks or so before the consoles launch.
They must have b@lls on them like Bengali tigers to plan the reveal and launch like that.

    It is pretty funny.
Last year "We have a new console coming called NX. We will tell you more next year"
This year "The NX is really called Switch and this is what it looks like and some physical features"

At this rate of information sharing, the console will be fully revealed by 2025, maybe.
Of course that sounded better before the new announcement

Kimishima had some interesting comments in the last few hours.

“By no means was that everything,” regarding the Switch reveal video.

Kimishima suggested that the Switch is part of a bigger ecosystem. "It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might be better to call them add-on hardware. It’s probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array."

On possibility of VR in the future....

"VR offers new ways of playing, but that depends on what kind of software can be played," he said. "If you ask us whether there are any possibilities, we can’t say no. It may be that we will build VR software titles, I think that opportunity is available to us."

Wasn't that the original marketing plan for the Wii U?

Unless the Switch has the horses to do VR properly, it'll be pointless.
VR, at the moment, depends on a lot of AAA PC developers patching current titles and releasing new ones, with console owners getting little more than a taste of it, and that's with the popular PS4. Imagine a Switch with a smaller customer number and a development ecosystem that makes porting from PC an expensive chore. Unless Nintendo are going to pump money into such development, as they did with games to utilise the WiiU touch screen, releases for a Nintendo VR device are going to be very thin on the ground.

I really can't see Nintendo making a half baked effort on this system though, I think it'll have to do what it is made to do and do it well.
I don't think they will take a chance on a "gimmick" that is going to cost them money and prestige if it fails.

    More details leaked to Eurogamer.
    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-10-27-nintendo-switch-has-a-6-2-multi-touch-screen
It is 6.2" in size, 720p and - for the first time in any Nintendo device - boasts a capacitive multi-touch screen.

(Both 3DS and Wii U featured resistive touchscreens, reliant on pressure and less precise. They were also single-touch only.)

As is standard for capacitive devices such as most modern smartphones, Switch's screen is a 10-point multitouch display, meaning multi-finger gestures are supported.
So, how will the touchscreen work when the Switch is docked? While connected to your TV the Switch itself is out of reach - you play either with both JoyCon controllers attached to the system's grip or with a Pro Controller. The Switch's touchscreen is almost entirely obscured within the console's dock. The answer may lie hidden in the right-hand JoyCon, which houses a short-range IR sensor in its base. This could be used to point at the TV to replicate basic touchscreen functionality, picked up by a corresponding IR sensor in the Switch's dock.

To me, that points to 'alternative' JoyCons than those shown, for particular games/interaction (say, a joycon with a rotary stick for Arkanoid-like gameplay? I seem to recall seeing a sketch of that recently. What about a GCON45 -like pistol-gripped Joycon and an AR game with the tablet screen becoming a reticle? Who knows...)

VR...though some decades old by now, the Virtual Boy must still be a particularly severe curse in Nintendo's boardroom. It's probably still their worst and costliest tanking, historically. Once bitten, twice shy.

RUMOR - SWITCH WON'T SUPPORT USB HARD DRIVES, CAN'T CHARGE WHILE USING KICKSTAND

These rumors once again come from LetsPlayVideoGames and their sources close to Nintendo...

    - hardware model shown in the reveal featured a USB-C port for power
    - this port will be able to be used to charge the handheld while away from the Switch Dock
    - position of the USB-C port means you will not be able to charge it while the system is propped up on its kickstand
    - the Switch's lackluster battery is being made up for with the ability to quickly charge
    - Nintendo doesn’t have any plans to support USB Hard Drives
    - allowing consumers to attach external drives to the Dock will cause players to see the system as less inherently portable

Nintendo foresee poeple carrying that dock around with them to do what exactly? Play the system on their friends tv? Not a chance.

I'd imagine that if you have an external hard drive to the Dock with games on it, once you remove the tablet part from the dock to play outside like all the lovely people in the ad you're not going to be able to access those games on the hard drive - Nintendo probably thought that would an annoyance to people rather than keeping the unit self contained.

For the games you want to play on the go - store them on the mirco SD. I'm just about able to get buy with a 500GB PS4 but I seem to be in the minority with that - having much less space again will just put me off buying games (digital especially).

The switch is aimed at casual gamers and nintendo fans ,
people who still want a handheld ,who want games more complex than
angry birds on a phone .I Think vr will have no effect at all on the switch ,people who play fifa or call of duty online ,aaa game s will buy an
xbox or a ps4 .they ps4 is the obvious choice if you want VR
    and are not rich.
VR could turn out like 3d games , there might be very limited market for it.It might be like free to play games .Only a small proportion of gamers
might be willing to pay for it.

Don't see issue with hard drives. It will have so card right? How big sd cards we have days? Exactly. Keep in mind we are talking about Nintendo handheld games and with 720p screen. Safe to say we won't see 60GB games on this console.

The only thing that annoys me about this console: March release date. I want it for Xmas.

Only thing is, it's designed to bridge both home console and portable/handheld markets, so they will want console quality games on it too. If it takes SD cards, there's a good chance that'll top out at around 128GB... I know you can get larger SD cards now, but most devices only support up to 128GB.

Rumours go it takes SD and SDXC cards up to 128Gb.

Game cart sizes range from 8Gb to 16Gb (the standard) to 32Gb depending on what a dev wants.

Can imagine these will have a larger capacity, as they looked a good bit bigger than 3DS carts in the reveal. To me anyways.

128gb is not great but probably managable. I think it should fit 8-12 games which is reasonable imo

The main selling point of the Switch is the ability to play console quality games on the go - not handheld quality games on your tv. As Star Lord mentions, 128GB is probably the max it will handle - 1/4 the size of the smallest PS4 harddrive (and also an additional cost lets not forget) or 128GB + 32GB internal less system reserved space for the pedantic out there. :)

If we're going to get 3rd party games on it then they can't be that much smaller than versions on other machines - you'll fit 6 x 20GB games on it. Just more backwards thinking from Nintendo when it comes to the basics. Excited and frustrated in equal measure about the device I am. :D

RUMOR - JAPANESE JOURNALIST DETAILS SWITCH'S NVIDIA ARCHITECTURE

The following info comes from Japanese journalist, Nishikawa Zenji...

    - Switch will likely use the NVIDIA Pascal ‘Parker’ architecture for its GPU
    - the Tegra chip inside the platform could help the Switch evolve just like the PS4 and the PS4 Pro
    - there are no indications that Nintendo will opt for the ‘Maxwell’ architecture within the Switch
    - the custom NVIDIA chip will feature a floating-point performance around 1 TFLOPS
    - there is almost “no possibility” that the Switch will perform above 1.5 TFLOPS due to the battery drive inside the Switch

    http://gonintendo.com/stories/267660-rumor-japanese-journalist-details-switch-s-nvidia-architecture
Level-5 CEO comments on Switch support.

Vandal also asked Hino about whether Level-5 plans to develop games for Nintendo’s newly unveiled Switch platform.

Hino responded, “We plan to make games for Nintendo Switch, but I think it’s very important to find out the best way to get the most out of the console. For that reason, we won’t have any titles at launch, but we’ll work with it as soon as we figure out how to take advantage of it.”

Anyone concerned about cards only being 32GB in size, that size will increase over the lifetime of the system as costs come down and most 60+ GB titles are only that size due to uncompressed assets.
