Nintendo of Europe have been very quiet this morning. There hasn't been a single bit of activity, not so much as even a Tweet. I wonder is something afoot? Probably not. Still expecting the NX announcement around the 19th to the 23rd September.

Edit: I think we might get a Direct though very soon.

Hopefully the announcement will have cool dance moves like they had in the Direct on Yo-Kai Watch.

    "NX, NX, NX, NX,
We won't tell you what it is,
    NX, NX, NX, NX,
    We are taking the pxxs.

For Christmas why don't you just go buy the NES Mini?
NX Controllers should be sterilised carefully*
Kai Kai Ki Ki Kui Kui Ke Ke
Here's a Direct presented by Reggie"

    * According to Ciderman. Allegedly.

It's a constant source of disappointment at the end of the show when there isn't an aging besuited japanese business man dancing with the jabanyans and sproinks during the credits song.

There's a bank holiday in the UK. Still, I'd find it strange that Nintendo of "EUROPE" has to come to a standstill because of one country. Especially given that that same country voted to leave the EU.

Wouldn't that just depend on where the person responsible for the account is based? As far as I know it's the UK so day off for them.

Obviously that might change once the Brexit happens.

Not for us it won't. We're lumped in with the UK for all NoE events, messaging and content. Only way Brexit is changing that is if we all learn to schpreken-zee-doytch!

Nintendo UK have already tweeted today so it's probably just a slow news day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

They only Tweeted less than half an hour ago. We're still due a Direct.

    It's not quite September yet!

So what you're saying is we'll be told on Wednesday there'll be a direct the next day or will they wait until Thursday morning? :)

    00.01am on Thursday morning.

Would have to be 0801 to allow for simultaneous broadcast with the States

No that's why it's so magic. 00.01am everywhere in the world. Like Father Christmas.

I'm already waiting for the end of September for Pikmin 3 to be rereleased, come on September, hurry up!

And if you think it's funny that controllers could be unhygienic, you should probably never get into collecting older videogames, some of that stuff would give a microbiologist nightmares.

I wouldn't. I bought a GameCube controller many moons ago that was not only sticky but also had copious amounts of hair on/in it.

I've heard that the real name of the NX is GO. It would be funny if that is its final name and we knew but didn't know all this time. What would "GO" stand for? Gaming Online?

I could see it though. They've already had the Pokemon GO brand awareness and it's a short catchy name like Wii was. Maybe the GO stands for Gaming Omniverse, a gaming universe that is spatiotemporally four-dimensional. They've already done the 3D so why not 4D? Or maybe the O represents the unit as a whole. Again, I've heard the controller is U shaped so stick them together with the screen in the middle and you've an elongated O. Even shorter if they overlap. Just a bit of rambling, probably isn't true. But you never know. ;) GO wouldn't be my first choice but neither was Wii and definitely not Wii U.

It could turn Nintendo into an "NGO". :p

And it's launch colour will be "NintyGO". :pac:

"Go" could work, don't mind it. But just on the U shaped controller. That was patent controller for the WiiU, it's not for whatever the NX is. That leaked a few years back. Drawings an all.

...Wonder will they stick with the NX name and reveal it's meaning or go with something totally different - Nintendo Game & Go or something (yuck).

Hopefully not, crap name that is.

Here's a handy Eurogamer link listing everything that is known speculated about the NX so far.

Report: NX to Feature PS4 -style Split D-Pad and Share Button
    image-22.jpeg?zoom=3&resize=683%2C427

Following our report last week regarding the Nintendo NX featuring advanced vibration technology and motion sensing in it’s new Wii Remote replacement controllers, Let’s Play Video Games has learned some additional information regarding the current version of the NX development hardware.

According to anonymous sources that have contacted Let’s Play Video Games following the previous report, we have learned that not only does the current NX development hardware feature a split D-Pad, unlike the solid pads Nintendo typically uses, but that the system also features a share button similar to that on the PS4.

The share button, denoted by a small icon of a camera, will apparently allow the upload of still images and video directly to Miiverse, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube. It will also be possible to save images or video to external memory devices for easier transfer to PC.

While the reasoning behind switching to a split D-Pad is currently unclear, the above header image was drawn by a source familiar with the current NX development kit and matches a description of the dev kit layout given by a second source who has provided reliable leaks regarding Nintendo products in the past.

Best name I've heard over the years NEX. Hope they pick that, like NES, but new.

Even though it's highly anticipated, I guess they want to time any announcements of the NX in a way that won't get lost in other news.
With the PS4 Slim and Neo expected to be officially revealed on September 7th and an Apple conference for iPhone 7 scheduled for the same day, they probably want to wait for that news to die down which means last half of September, at the earliest for NX reveal

I was kinda right we're getting a direct on September 1st right. Right? Right guys. Yeah.

Strange that the X & Y and B & A buttons seem to have swapped places to the Xbox layout.
Wish Nintendo would just say something though all these rumours don't help their case. This system seems to be a bag of risks. Detachable controllers & a portable/home console hybrid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

So what do people think is going to be the hook(gimmick) of NX? I've often thought of dual handed controls. I've a picture of a skiing game where you use both controllers as a separate ski each. Or an FPS with dual guns each with their own reticule. Or rhythm games.

    Enhanced Donkey Konga bongo controllers.

Rumor: NX development kit dimensions and mockup, is region-free
    NX-Layout-1.png?zoom=1.5&resize=795%2C679

Let’s Play Video Games has followed up with a third report about the NX within the past week.

Based on what the site has heard from one of its sources (“working on an NX title set to launch Holiday 2017, corroborated and lined up with information from sources we have worked with during the past week”), it claims to have information about the layout of the current development kit. A mockup image can be seen above.

As we’ve previously heard, the NX is supposedly a hybrid console with detachable controllers. The split d-pad, A, B, X, Y, and a camera / share button are all there. As for the size, the source writes the following:

“It’s slightly thicker than the Nintendo 3DS XL when folded, so 25 mm, with a width of around 281 mm and a height of 92 mm with the controllers attached. Separated, the controllers have the same depth and height, and they both have a width of 38 mm, making the console itself have a width of 205 mm.

One final thing I thought I should discuss is how the controllers connect. They’re both held by the console via a hole in each side of the system where the controllers can connect to. It sort of looks like this.
    share-2.jpg?w=700

To take it out, there’s a button on the back of each controller that lowers the center spike that keeps it in place, making it eject from the system.”

The final part of today’s report claims that NX development kits are currently region free. That information, coming from two separate sources allegedly, looks unlikely to change before release.

Not a million miles from the mock up I'd drawn before, and the split D-pad rumours would fit in with the two sides being usable as two controllers, with the directional buttons doubling as the ABXY buttons.
