This is an iconic photo of him

That's not just an iconic photo of him, but perhaps the greatest sports photo ever. 38, concussed, with broken ribs and sternum after he was blindsided, it's as if the realisation that his record breaking career has ended had just dawned on him. Ironically, the photo went unpublished for a long time as it showed no action and so it was thought it had little merit. It changed sports photography.

That was from the 2nd game of the 1964 season. He went on to play every game that year, so another 12 even with his broken ribs, sternum, and concussion.

    Absolutely mental.

His 1962 and 1963 seasons are crazy for that era, the latter in particular.

    1962 NYG 14 200 375 53.3 3,224 yards 33TD 20INT 89.5 108 Rushing Yards 2 Rushing TD
    1963 NYG 13 221 367 60.2 3,145 yards 36TD 14INT 104.8 99 Rushing Yards 2 Rushing TD

can't go 0-16 and be like the Lions

never live down the shame like

however if we have to suck we may as well get as high a draft pick as possible

Giants' remaining schedule is very tough. @49ers is probably the easiest.

Makes sense that it would be. Unless you can bring 3-4 good linemen in the offseason it ain't happening next year either and if this is a multi year thing you may as well blow it up.

If I'm following spotrac correctly, it would cost the Giants $12.4m against the cap to cut Manning.

If I'm following spotrac correctly, it would cost the Giants $12.4m against the cap to cut Manning before next season. So that ties them to Manning for 2018. They have a number of big contracts already so they can't probably can't afford to burn that much money.

What do you mean by "blow it up". Let Eli walk? They have him until 2019 although they could walk away at end of 2018 season for $6.2M cap hit.

This is the NY Giants, not the J-E-T-S. New Yorkers will never let them blow it up. Always have a high level of expectation for the Giants in NY.

That's not prohibitive these days, I'd imagine there's been a few QB's recently that have cost their teams that.

What does a number 1 overall pick cost these days?

Eli has been our only remotely consistent player this year. He's far from the problem. Considering circumstances, I would say he's actually playing fairly well.

He has a god damn thankless job now for the rest of the season, however. It won't be pretty.

Goff signed a 28m deal over four years. Trubisky is getting 29m.

Perhaps blow it up was poorly worded I mean draft a qb and concentrate on assets that fit the young qbs timeline

Not against Giants grabbing a QB, keeping Eli as starter another season or two, and trying to put the pieces in place for when that QB comes to the fore - similar to how the Rams team is built now.

It would probably mean not putting another 1st rounder into the OL until 2019 though, and that's potentially problematic in itself. Not sure the cap space is there to bring in proper FA when we've OBJ, Collins, Pugh and a few more looking for contracts.

Pretty f'd up story of Josh Gordon and his drug abuse: https://www.uninterrupted.com/watch/3VceYXfI/jg-josh-gordon

Super talented 26 year old WR who has basically thrown his career away. We always wonder why players with so much talent can throw it away so foolishly as soon as they get to the NFL and we just think its 100% their fault. Its kinda interesting to see the enabling that goes on and people just using these young players (from f'c up backgrounds) for their own short term gains and don't give a fcuk about the players' long term life as long as they win on Saturday/Sunday. Nice to see this throwing career away story for a different perspective.

    Pretty shocking although not surprising:
“I’ve been enabled most of my life,” Gordon said. “I’ve been enabled by coaches, teachers, professors, everybody, pretty much, gave me a second chance because of my ability. Not too long after I got arrested for possession of marijuana at Baylor, one of my coaches came by saying, ‘You are going to get drug tested by the compliance office. This is how it’s going to work, this is what they are going to do. If they do call you in, here goes these bottles of detox.’ He showed me how to drink them, showed me how to take them. That was my first experience with getting over on the system and the authority not really being serious because it was being guided by someone who was employed by the university.”

Good to see he recognizes he has a problem and is taking the proper steps to sort out his life. He's eligible to apply for reinstatement into the NFL right now but its good to know hes not rushing it. I've gone from thinking he is a clown to rooting for him (as long as he was 100% truthful in that video and it just a PR stunt of sorts).

I can only imagine what happened to Justin Blackmon?

Adrian Peterson traded to the Cardinals

NFL reporting Adrian Peterson to the Cardinals from the Saints.

Just wow and must mean David Johnson injuries are worse than originally feared

David Johnson is out for a minimum 8 weeks and most likely 12 weeks. Probably will only come back for the playoffs (if they make it). AP is a cheap pickup for them to hopefully fix the RB position in the short term

Goodell has. Doubt Kaepernick and co. will be persuaded by his "we all love each other, so please shut up and let's not make any more waves" effort.

The guy who reported that about Kaep backing down was totally spineless about it as well, his excuse was terrible. I don't remember exactly now but it was either that he tweeted it or said it on some show that Kaep was willing to stand and then a few hours later started saying he was reporting a conversation someone else had with Kaep that was relayed to him, total bull**** "journalism". Kaep tweeted that quote about a lie travelling halfway around the world.
