I have tried the new place, Mission on Liffey St and I'll give it a thumbs up. Particularly good service.

  • Registered Users Posts: 991 ✭✭✭on_my_oe

We tried Mission today, and weren't excited. My pulled pork burrito had lumpy rice, with clumps so hard I was pulling pieces out. The pulled pork was soggy, meaning my burrito was dripping. OHs chilli bean had little flavour, and tasted dry.
Overall underwhelmed, and won't be back - mamas revenge remains the best

See Boojum are opening another shop on Abbey Street where Sherries cafe/bar used to be.

Will the hipsters stop going now that it's become too much of a mainstream chain? Hopefully they'll go somewhere else and tell people they used to eat at Boojum before it was cool.

I've moved away from Dublin since this thread was last active, must say I miss burritos in Dublin terribly. Working in town? Burrito lunch might put you asleep but well worth it. Going for pints? Burrito first. Not going for pints? Well...there's always a burrito.

Am in the midwest in the US now and while there's an excellent Mexican restaurant near my house, the Californian style burrito bar is quite rare, except for Chipotle, which I never thought much of and is now in serious trouble because of several e-coli outbreaks.

Would people still agree that Boojum is the best? Mission for me, or the chicken and sweet potato burrito from Little Ass.

Every time I have a different burrito here I am just thinking I wish this was a boojum one, so still the favourite for me. Tried hungry Mexican, too spicy and dry

Cactus Jack's tacos involve a spoonful of mince and a minuscule sprinkle of salsa and cheese. Totally pathetic.

I don't eat burritos anywhere near as often as I used to; I've gotten a bit bored of Dublin's offerings. They're all too similar. That said if I do get one it's generally in Tolteca. Boojum is tasty but I'd only get a bowl there; gave up on their burritos after getting a sloppy, dripping mess too many times.

I had Tuzo a few months ago and thought it was the best burrito I'd had in Dublin...was disappointed when I went to go again and it was gone :(

So Boojum still top for me. There's none near me though so the odd time I do get a burrito it's Tolteca or Pablo. Tolteca I find a little bland and stingy on the portions. Pablo is tasty, but I usually don't get beans or cheese, and get peppers and onions instead, and they charge extra for this which is a bit scabby. In Tolteca you have the choice of fajita (peppers & onions) or burrito (beans) and they're the same price.

I agree that boojum is consistently best but also enjoy mission and little ass for a change as they have different offerings.

don't rate tolteca at all to be honest.

Is it just me or are they all in and around the same everywhere?
Not many of them seem to do breakfast burritos but there's a place called Mama's Revenge on Nassau St and their brek burrito is really good. So I guess that'd be my favourite but the normal all day burritos seem to taste the same to me everywhere, which isn't a bad thing.

K Chido Mexico does a breakfast burrito too.

Alas, not a single California burrito to be had anywhere in the city.

    (afaik)

What pray tell is a breakfast burrito? I have a feeling I need this in my life, sometimes I have curry for breakfast :)

It should have scrambled eggs, guacamole, salsa, and something like bacon in it. I've had ones with potato in there as well, sometimes they have things like onions and peppers, hot sauce. I guess beans if it's a proper burrito at all. You know yourself, depends on your taste, but the base is just bacon and eggs instead of the usual meat that you'd be getting. It's a fantastic idea because it's delicious, great hangover food, but realtively healthy as things go, without being creepy healthy, like having kale and tofu for breakfast or some ****.

Thats what you think it should be, but what is it in fact? from Mamas revenge or K Chido Mexico?

Dear God!, to imagine such a thing exists, gives me hope as to which way the human race is evolving :)

I've had brek burritos in Cali and Vancouver and Mamas Revenge is the one I've enjoyed the most. Bits of chorizo, potato, salsa, egg, bacon, drooooooooling here :)

Breakfast burrito to me is (moist) scrambled egg, cheese and potato. Chorizo or sour cream if you're feeling adventurous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,163 ✭✭✭Beefy78

The best breakfast in my life was a breakfast burrito, at the cafe at the Four Queens casino in Las Vegas. Scrambled eggs, chorizo, a bit of sausage, a couple of different cheeses and an amazing hot sauce. It was sensational. Went back a few months bac and it was no longer on the menu :(

It's the germs which add the flavour at Mamas Revenge. Hope they re-open soon.

I was appalled at "The Journal" putting up a blatant puff-piece the other day for Boojum's. It was at the top of the "edge" section and was not marked as promotional. It was a palpable shill and there is no doubt in my mind that money changed hands in return for the story being run.

The journal needs to work on its editorial ethics.

Interesting. Not all of the below articles are about boojum, though it looks like they rarely miss an opportunity to get a reference to the company in there.

Dublin is getting a new Boojum on Abbey Street - "Yessss." - 4 Mar 2016
11 signs your Boojum addiction has gone too far - "And it’s wonderful." - 3 Mar 2016

11 daily inconveniences all Dubliners must face - 2 Sep 2015
Here’s why you should keep drenching everything in hot sauce - 7 Aug 2016

The top 5 best burritos in Dublin - 21 July 2015
Good news burrito fans: Boojum’s just been bought and they’re promising more stores - 24 Jun 2015

I doubt there’s anything sinister in it though. The daily edge section is just all about churning out click-bait pop culture stuff and they probably aren’t aware of their posting habits…

That's mad, 2 within a couple minutes walk of work closed due to hygiene issues. Pretty disgraceful really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,639 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Its kinda ironic that just two weeks ago the Journal ran an article on places to get lunch in Dublin for €5, one of those featured was Mamas Revenge and now yesterday they're reporting that the FSAI have closed it for hygiene reasons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Boulevardier

Pepe, I'd say they are very aware indeed. There has to be a financial tie-in between Boojum's and The Journal.

Excellent piece of research by the way!

Have to agree. Have had mission a couple of times now and I think it's excellent very good quality ingredients similar to boojum but some different flavours I found.

Very friendly staff and happy to answer your questions too.

Definitely my favourite spot for a burrito at the moment.

Yup would also give Mission on Liffey St the thumbs up. Their Nachos are amazing and they use really good fresh ingredients in their burritos. Staff are really friendly and love the style of the place. Would only really choose between them or Boojum, I don't really rate the rest and can say I have tried them all! In saying that though I have found Boojum the last while not as good, pretty sure with the new ones opening when they got bought that changes were made, or maybe I just preferred Mission after going there a few times. I know the poll is old at this stage but they do deserve a spot on it ahead of some of the others up there at this stage. Would recommend people check them out! Mmmm now I am just hungry talking and thinking about Burritos!

It's probably not the best but I live really close to a Tolteca and they do quite decent burritos imo.
