    Re localcast.

Anyone else notice audio lag using certain apps.....

I know there's an option to delay audio etc, but tbh it doesn't seem to help much.

I don't seem to have the same issues with upnp strangely enough, it's just I find local cast a tad easier to operate.

Like you, I use Localcast and prefer it over Bubbleupnp - but the annoying ads.... Only played a few things but didn't notice any audio lag on the TV. Isn't the delay audio option only for when you use the speakers on the device (phone/tablet) and not via the TV.

My main gripe is the lack of being able to play an avi via the phone. Anyone know how to do that - am I missing the obvious? My netbook isn't fast enough to do the on fly encoding/decoding that the videostream plugin for chrome uses to cast avi's..... I've managed to convert avi's to mkv with ACC audio (AC3 audio doesn't work with MKV on CC) and then I can cast from my the storage attached to my router without issues. It's not a NAS by any means but it works. Just a long winded process to convert.....

It's probably a rights issue so as to stop you downloading it and watching it on one device, and then streaming it on a chromecast elsewhere. It's a restriction to basically having only one copy.

You can still get Adaway, if you are rooted, it's available from XDA, or F-droid, the open source archive...

you need to install F-droid on your device, apk available from that link, obviously needs to be side-loaded, so allow "Unknown Sources" in your Security Settings.

As for AVI format, Chromecast does not support this natively, you would need transcoding, as in Plex, or with BubbleUPnP, with their server installed on your PC/Laptop, or use Handbrake, free program, to transcode your AVI to Mp4.

I are why Mr Dunne got his knickers in a twist now, he thought I was having a go at him??

What I meant is that its ridiculous that the device doesn't play ball with official play movies when it works perfectly with ones that aren't even legal. Hoefully my rant above makes more sense now :)

Thanks - but not rooted. I'm using Handbrake already (on old Linux netbook). That'll do for now, being as I don't have a PC/laptop running all the time to act as a server.

That is a very contentious thing to say, emboldened above, you have no clue what movies he has tried on his device, or what the source was, apart from Google movies rental......

perhaps you mean your own device??

Just got my Chromecast today, it's 1 today!

Went to check the offers and got offered free All Access for 90 days.

I have Spotify Premium so I don't know what I'm going to do...

Was expecting free £4.99 on Google Play that I can use with my English account.

Not sure what to do now.

Wonder when the 90 promo expires?

OK, but that's the reason AVI's wont play for you from your phone.

You would have the same problem with Plex, as it needs transcoding via the plex media server....

Here is a good reddit on the subject.....

OK just set this up. You need to use a PC as it's easier. It didn't work on the phone for me as I didn't have a payment option in wallet setup and that freaked it...

Head to https://cast.google.com/chromecast/offers/ on the PC on same wifi network as your chromecast. It asks to validate against the CC then you are prompted to enter a payment method (price is zero). Redirected then to Play Music to setup your music genre prefs and that's it....

Put a calendar reminder in to delete the payment card and/or sub in 89 days....

How does 3 months equate to bringing you to 30th September? I'm assuming the article is wrong in some way as that's only just over 2 months.

Same for me. Article was read wrong (but it's not clear either) - offer is from July 24, 2014 through September 30, 2014 from here http://chrome.blogspot.ie/2014/07/happy-1st-birthday-chromecast.html?m=1

I'm sort of thinking Meh... I have a 60 day trial on my English account, I hope I can stack them.

I have Spotify Premium so All Access is just an extra for me.

Sign up Sept 30th and get your 90 days then...
I have no other service, so the free 90 days is great for me - been listening to the "feeling lucky radio' playlists in the car! Although I'm going to be cancelling on the 89th day, as a tenner a month is way too much for the service.

You don't need to cancel on the 89th day!

Cancel today when you remember and the subscription will continue until the 90 days are up.

You won't be charged once you can cancel.

Unfortunately you can't use the 90 free days if you have an active subscription or ever used a free trial with them.

You could of course set up a new account but I'm not bothered doing that. Have mine set up with loads of playlists and 3 carrier billing so don't want to lose/mess with that.

I ended up giving my Mam my code and she is happily listening to some 80's music from her iPad Air!

Wasn't at all bothered as I've Spotify Premium.

You could actually create a new account with the code and then subscribe to your old playlist?

Yeah I read that a paid sub if cancelled goes until the end of the paid period. But wasn't sure about cancelling on the free trial though so wasn't going to say to do that....:P

Guys a quick question ref allcast. On the premium version, mine is jumping /freezing every now and then, and I also cannot control volume from the phone.

    Is this normal?

My internet is 50meg down so def not the culprit for streaming quality, tbh I'm more concerned if not being able to control the volume is normal, cos that will rule out allcast for me I'm afraid.

I have a relatively new LG TV (2011) and I read that the Chromecast supports CEC which basically means it can turn on your tele using HDMI and turn it off aswell.

After being slightly disappointed that my new-ish tele didn't have this feature I discovered it does indeed have it but it's LGs own version of it called SimpLink.

From Googling it people seem to have had nothing but problems with it.

I'm wondering has anyone managed to get it working?

I turn it on, on my tele and everything is greyed out.

Chromecast auto turns on and off my Samsung 42" plasma. Not quite sure of model number, but I bought it back in 07 Fwiw.

    Ah I see.

Not a big deal anyway but it'd be nice to get it working.

1 more thing added to my #FirstWorldProblems list :pac:

For the record, you don't need to install F-droid to install Adaway, a standalone apk is available on the Adaway page on the F-droid site. It's not very well explained on their site.

It is indeed Dave, you can browse and search the site, and it is listed, and available to download here is the url....save searching.

    Note, they say, regarding F-Droid:
Although APK downloads are available below to give you the choice, you should be aware that by installing that way you will not receive update notifications, and it's a less secure way to download. We recommend that you install the F-Droid client and use that.

I had a problem with all versions on the official site, and on P-Droid, on my rooted Motorola G, which was causing the host-file update from working properly....

you need to make your system writeable, use ES or some other root explorer to do this.

I still had problems even then, and there is a modified version available on the XDA App thread, which solved my problems....

It is here, including the modified version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753

Modified is called AdAway v2.8.1 with d4rken mod:

here is a link to the Modified version, if you have problems with the official version...

    http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23578570567718136

I have stopped using Adaway actually, now preferring this:

    MoaAB.....Mother of all Ad Blocking.

It's a flashable zip using your Recovery, works on CWM and TWRP recoveries.

No problems and no Ads on my Moto now!!!!!

But, you have to check back to the thread to see if there are updates.

Cheers, hope some of the above is useful.
