I hope it's a big dirty dump in the safe. The OP would be disappointed, but sure I'd get a laugh..
Jeez... I know I think highly of each and every one of my dumps. I even lower each one by rope so as not to hurt them. But, I wouldn't keep one in a safe. They have to be free, goddammit.:D

Right just found out that the previous owner had cancer and was dying for two years. Which makes me think that if he knew he was dying then he'd have emptied it before he did die. So I'd imagine its empty. But I still want it opened.

Was there much dirt on top of the cover? Was there anything on top of it? If it was empty they wouldn't have bothered hiding it under something you'd imagine.

OP, you could make loadsa money from this by taking part in a made-for-TV documentary of the finding and opening of the safe. You know, just like the archeological programmes where they open the tomb and find the body etc etc. You could make millions syndicating it to the TV networks! Now I have a mate who kows all about this TV video kinda stuff, he's on the dole at the moment, but he is really good, and he has 2 videocams, now I can introduce you to him, and you wont look back! So lets get down to details, when you get the millions, how about we split it 50:50? Ok,okk,ok,ok,ok, calm down, you take 60 percent, and I, alright, alright, alright, I'll settle for 20 percent, and my mate will make sure it gets on the RTE news. Its a deal so.

It was hidden under the floor boards of the shed! There was a leg of a bench on it. I discovered it when I was removing the bench. I'm converting the shed into a mancave.

This better be more interesting than that crappy time capsule they opened a few months ago. Did anybody you know own the house/shed before you op?

No I don't know the previous owner. I do have the number of the previous owners daughter, but I don't want to ring her in case there is something valuable in the safe.

A mancave with an underground safe and a mysterious story to go with it. This story gets better and better!

I'd check the previous previous tenant out of curiosity.

A neighbour of mine died about ten years ago and the house was vacant up until last year. During renovations they found over 50k of silver tea pots and all that kind of stuff. Turned out the father of the old woman who died was an antiques dealer and stored stuff under floor boards but nobody every knew. In that case the new owner got to keep everything as he bought the property "house and contents" as there was some old furniture left there.

Who knows, maybe your previous previous tenant was a jeweller!

It is handy to read the start of the thread where you will see it currently inserted in concrete

I've never locked an empty safe, can't see why anyone would.

Ages ago there was a similar thread, in the DIY forum, see here ... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69847581

Upshot was the only contents were a lot of dead insects, some dust and a (very) small piece of paper :D

A man cave is the best decision you will ever make good sir. You even have a safe to keep your weed/porn in.

It could be like that hoard of gold coins somebody found recently, they reckon somebody stashed them, told nobody and they where forgotten about.
I suspect his family didn't even know about this safe, you would think a buried safe would be an asset to be listed in the sale of a house, not a very valuable asset, but a handy addition worth mentioning all the same. GET IT OPEN!

YES!!! Am gonna watch oceans 11 12 and 13 for inspiration. Will get back with any good ideas.

That's it... Lift the shed up and then get into the side of the box. Take out all the money and diamonds and then drop the shed back down.

What if it belonged to the person who lived there before ther person you bought it from?

Isn't termite easy enough to make, you'll destroy whatever was in it but hey you'll have a laugh in the process.

ah this is exactly like a caller to the Danny Baker show on bbc five live about 12 months ago. He moved into a new house in cheshire and there was a safe in the basement although he found the keys somewhere else in the house i think. Then he opened it live on air.
Ended up there was a video tape in the safe. The following week they watched the tape on air and it was some old bbc sitcom.

Get a camera from Aldi with flexible head ( with built in light) on it. It's 10mm dia. So just drill a 11mm hole and u can see inside.
    Or
Attach a chain to the door and the other end of the chan to the hitch of a car and drive!
