Hello all, first post, be gentle. Just ordered an amiko alien 2 from your island after a dreadful 6 month experience with a vu+duo. The channels would dissappear without any reason whatsoever and numerous efforts to find a culprit were unhelpful. I've been running a skybox f5s in the same house flawlessly. Little workhorses them things.
I'm sorry to bombard you with questions so early on but I just need a few things clarifying.
I'm a fan of certain plugins and I'm wondering if the spark image hosts them ok, stable in other words. I've been using enigma 2 only you see so I'm not sure.
I want... Crossepg
Cool TV guide.
Tsmedia or tspanel.
Autobouquets.
These are the essentials I want on it. I've been doing a bit of research but haven't found definitive answers. What is the best image in your humble opinions?
I'm also looking at purchasing an external hdd. Does this have to be a certain spec to cope with 2 different recording channels and timeshifting etc. and do both the images on the alien run oscam ok?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm vu+ brainwashed at the moment and am looking for a fresh start. One more thing. When I ftp into the box using filezilla how do I know what image I'm editing with it being a dual boot box? That may be a stupid one but I don't know.

Since you already know all about Enigma, forget about Spark.

Dual booting is in two completely different partitions and so you can only access the filesystem of the booted image (switching is done at pre-boot)

A usb 2.0 HDD will suffice for your needs I reckon

And as for the best image, well ............

None of them, it's different hardware

You'll need to look for ipk files with sh4 in the title, these will work on the amiko alien 2

Absolutely everything you have asked is answered throughout this thread. The search tgus thread bar will put you right. Hyperion 4 is a nice image. A nice external hdd is tge Samsung m3. Dcc is nicer to use than FileZilla, in my opinion. You'll know you're on the image you want cos it won't connect to any other image, (depending on ip).

Thats not entirely correct ,some of them will work .
I use alot of the same plugins on the DM800 and the Alien 2 ,I just extract the ipk and ftp the files over.
Off the head the ones that will work are,RTE player,1 channel,Rats Picons,Rats Bouquets,TVDB and TMDB.
The PKT and HDMU download servers have alot of stuff to download anyway.

They will all work in Enigma 2 on the Alien 2 just like your Duo
Only Crossepg is supported in Spark

In my opinion Hyperion 4 is the best but HDMU and Ar-P are very good too.I havent tried Open Pli

You will only be able to see the files you are booted in ,either Spark or E2

Mate, 6 months I tried to get that thing going. No one could figure it out. It would run fine for days then all $channels would go off for no reason. I must have flashed that thing over a hundred times with various images. Even fresh installs would mess up. Last week even the fta channels went off and no channels were on it. It's at the suppliers now and after a bit of testing he's sending it to vu+. Don't get me wrong, when it worked it was nice. But channels not clearing in the middle of footy matches is a big no no. I just wanted a box to work as it should. As I mentioned before, the f5s doesn't skip a beat but it has wife and child unfriendly user interface and only one lnb. I just hope this alien does a job for me.

Hi all, I have an AA2 running on spark, last week the Oscam stopped clearing. I have reinstalled everything, gone back to factory reset and still no luck. The Oscam works perfectly on a different AA2.
Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks Flex, I'm very new to this so the above means very little lol!! Although the working AA2 is not at my house but at a friends, any thoughts on why this might happen? I should really add that the evening it stopped clearing I was adding a new db and HDD to the AA2, but this May or may not have anything to do with the problem, especially as I have reset it since etc......
I should also add that I'm using a wifi dongle in front USB and hdd in rear

Problem with Fresh Pots image, you cannot change the skin or else the box will not boot on next cold boot

A lot of things could have gone wrong and if the other AA2 isn't at your place then you might be better off just flashing a backup enigma2 image. Lots of them are available in the firmware thread. Boot into Spark and run the e2upgrade plugin to flash an enigma2 image (PKT Hyperion, AR-P, HDMU etc) then boot into enigma2 and it should all be there for you.

You should get to know the e2upgrade plugin because you use it to flash images but also to make backups of your own working setup which you can then revert to when things like this happen to you.

Just got my Dsl upgraded to Fibre so with the new router I decided to try the streaming over the internet as opposed to over my internal Lan

Speedtest is showing 50 mb download 20 mb upload with amiko alien 2 running hyperion 4 hardwired to the lan
Changed the default port in webif
Assigned a static address for the amiko outside the dhcp range
Setup the port forwarding in the router to point to webif port
and bang up it came
EPG and streaming no prob

my question is although I have changed the webif default port
Do i need to change the password of the amiko for security and where do I do thanks

It would be wise to change it and use ssl. Telnet in and run "passwd root", it will prompt for new pass

I'm having an issue where a particular channel is working grand but it's +1 sister channel is glitching a bit.

I don't know if the weather is causing this so I tried to do an automatic scan.

I've not changed any of the settings around the tuners or scanning settings but when i run the Automatic scan, I get a green screen.

I do not have an aerial attached for saorview channels.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there a workaround?

Hi guys,
I have been making the big mistake of not using an external hard drive while using enigma2 with the last 6 months. I didn't know i had to. Now I do because I have been having problems with the box with the last 2 weeks. I have ordered a samsung m3 1tb from Amazon (thanks hellodare). My box at the moment will not boot into enigma. It stops at the point of the logo appearing. My last crash log when I got a green screen said not enough room left on memory.

Is there a way I can erase all these epg files that have been storing in my internal memory with the last 6 months. would a factory reset in spark do it? Or have I fuped up the box!

Had that issue myself. I reflashed the image and it was ok then. I seem to remember freshpots mentioning something back in the forum

Hi just seeing this now, I would have mentioned that automatic scan doesn't work on Hyperion images yeah but as for the glitching, I'm not sure why that would have started and then stopped after a refresh. Was it only one channel? Did you have an external hard drive connected?

A fresh install should do it
There are a number of posts about the epg information staying across a reflash - I believe this is because the images look on the hdd in the same place for the epg data. So you should be fine with a reinstall.
