Apologies if this is a stupid question but before I flash to a new image I wanted to ask about the existing external hard drive I have attached to my Amiko.

If I switch to the new Hyperion Image will the files I have saved to my hard drive whilst using a HDMU image still be there? I dont need to format the drive or anything like that? I have a LOT of downloaded stuff from TSMedia (talking 200GB of stuff) that I dont want to lose. It will take me forever and a day to transfer it over to another hard drive using the likes of Filezilla so just wanted to make sure I wont lose my movies/tv shows?

Also in the past I have usually just used HDMU images and did not save previous ones when installing a newer version. However I would like to have a 'back up' of my current image in case I mess up when installing Hyperion 4. I know I have to do this in Spark but it is ages since I was on that side of the box and I have never saved an image before there. I just used to install the new image I was using.

    Thanks for your help

All files on hard drive will remain untouched.
In spark just go to the e2 upgrade plugin and select backup instead of update to create a backup.

Below is a link to my new Hyperion v4 based Complete Image - for the Amiko Alien2, Golden Media Triplex and other ST7162 Based Boxes.

Wait to see Forc on front display. Release ok button and press the p+ button on front panel until you see SPAR then press ok button again.
    6. Box will bootup in spark.
    7. Press menu on remote and go to plugin, select.
go to E2upgrade.If icon on screen to right of E2upgrade is already green go straight to step 8 below, if it not green press ok, plugin will start.
8 Press red again, "upgrade path/storage/c/ will appear. press ok and select "back_of_E2"
    9.Press red again.
    10. Box will upgrade. When finished (takes about 2 mins) it will say success and return to "upgrade path"
    11. Exit out of menu.
    12. Turn off receiver using switch at back, remove front USB stick and reinsert back usb stick.
    13. Press ok button on front panel.
    14. Turn on box using switch at back, keeping ok button pressed.
    15. When you see FORC on front display release ok button and press p- button, until you see ENIG
16 Press OK button. Box will reboot and you have upgraded software.

Lads, when I get to forc, it tries to boot then goes back to standby, forgive my lame question but should the image be extracted on the USB or not ?

Also what format should the USB be in, ntfx, fat, ext2 ?

I just got the Amiga Alien 2 today, so no experience with installing images on sat boxes.

    Cheers.

Image should be in a folder named enigma2 on a formatted fat 32 usb.

When switching between box sides, with box power off at back, hold the ok button on the box front and power on. When forc displays press up for spark or down for e2.when you select what you want press ok and let it boot up.

Doesn't work, this box has never had any other image installed, does that matter ?

When I try boot with the usb it goes back to standby a few seconds after I select spar.

On the usb stick there is a folder called enigma2 in the folder is a folder called back of e2, e2jffs2.img and uImage .

Just tried and it was taking forever, maybe 3 mins ?

    Yep.

Yep booted to spark when I turned on with the remote, no plugin in the plugin menu.

If I already have spark and no other image why would I need to turn off via the mains switch and back on while holding the ok button ? why not go straight in as normal with the memory stick ?

I think if the box was switched off with the remote it returns to standby when you power on and off with the switch on the back
try turning it on with the remote does it boot into spark ?

No, there should be no folder in a folder, just the 2 files inside the folder named enigma2. Do this and try to boot into enigma2 again.

Also, are you putting the usb into the front or back usb port?

Right, when you power off the box, put the usb into the rear usb port and holding ok turn on the box and when forc displays press down for enigma and press ok. The box should start reading the usb for enigma and the display should read something like TLO (i think, from memory), this can take a few minutes, but eventually it will display a load of numbers and boot into the enigma2 image you have just loaded of the usb stick.

So is installing it from the e2upgrade plugin an older way of doing it
I did not know it could be installed directly from the usb key without the plugin
That might make things a little easier so :-)

    Na, it's just another option.

Nope 6 mins on display and still nothing.

This is plugged into the rear USB now this time ?

I thought the image would already have to be loaded for it to boot from enigma ?

Just to make things clear, there are no plugins on the USB ?

    not on the usb
When in spark go to menu then plugins and check if the e2upgrade plugin is there

If you cant get hallo theres way to come up

Usb in rear port, same file setup as before. Could be your usb stick. This box can be fussy about such. If you have other ones, give them a go.

Failing that, search this forum for Championc, he has a plugin that you can install in spark that you can upload the enigma2 image through spark.

Ok, should there already be a plugin on the amiko ?

When I do the off swithc, on while holding the ok button and select spark it goes so far and the tv screen lights for a second then the amiko goes to standby, when I turn it back on via remote it just turns on as normal.

Get the plugin folder from champions image zip, copy it to the Usb key and boot to spark, it will prompt to install it
