I have two here that calved for the second time recently, one off a TKO cow and one off an ION cow. They're only ok i'd say, don't think either of them will be as good as their mothers. They're quiet, well muscled, medium sized and could do with a bit more milk.
If you're going to keep ZAG heifers i think they'd want to be off bigger framed cows with plenty of milk.

Anybody have any ZAG cows ?

I have a lovely quiet ZAG cow here. Second Calfer. Great temperament. The day I bought her as a springer I could pet her in the field. Plenty of milk too but she's out of a HE cow.

Cheers. My one is long but butty enough. She is out of a big BYU cow so thought she would grow a bit better. Shes not so simple to handle though.

All easy calving bulls are high on maternal even if they have no milk

Gave her a ch bull last year. Ch4160 from dovea.
She went back in calf less than 2 months after calving. Good for a first calfer

    Look at the Charolais
FSZ is 5 star maternal and -4 for milk
    LZF + CKH 5 star @ -6

Have you ever tried Gamin (ZGM), he'd be ideal for your blue cows i think.

I've a PB ZAG heifer here. Don't know what to do with her as her mother had very little milk and ZAG is poor for milk too. She's fine otherwise, quiet enough.

Have another cow due to my first Gamin (ZGM) in 2 weeks. Brought her home today from where she was as too much grass. She's a big cow and gone kinda fleshy so home to bare fields.

If you like her and have room to keep her you could always give her a go but chances are she'll be poor for milk too.
I thought that all pedigree Limo breeders have a few Holstein cows and a big meal bin in the yard to help the calves along:cool:

Had four Gamin calves here recently off third calvers that were pretty fat, they popped them out no problem.

I will see can I get him. Might be difficult in current circumstances

Ya like, blue cows are notoriously bad calvers so the parameters for easy calving are changed,

AFAIK straws are still being delivered as normal but i haven't got any this year.
Which Lim bulls worked well on those blues in the past, did you ever try EBY on them?

Is there any Charolais yad recommend for milk that would suit plainer commercial cows

Based off of data I would suggest TOMBAPIK (CH4202) seeing as his milk figures are 10.1kg at 85% reliability so he definitely injects milk in his daughters and his beef figures are decent enough too across other breeds. Now there are other bulls out there that wouldn't have as high milk figures but would have better beef figures like CH2204 and TZW so it depends on what you want I suppose. Those 3 bulls aren't commercially available either so you'd want to order the straws, they'd be around the 40 quid mark too

Which AI company are you with?
    Can Vern Indigo be got?
Had a stock bull by him who improved size & milk

    Personally I’d prefer Bova Sylvain
Been trying for a heifer off him, recommended strongly by others

Yes, tried EBY, nice calves but nothing special. I have also used Ivor, Malibu, casino, ZAG, Rocky & Altea on blue cows and Ivor has produced the best calves for me. But I also have some very poor lim calves out of blue cows. Attached is an Ivor calf from a BBQ cow

Here is the ZAG heifer from the BYU cow. I ai’d her to Ivor lm2014 yesterday. She’s a nice long heifer but butty. Not simple to work with either. She has great breeding behind her I hope she grows a bit over the summer and settles down.

Progressive. Wouldn’t mind something to inject a bit of size and milk
