Saints Row 2 is my favourite xbox 360 game and while i'm enjoying SR 3 something is missing.

My main gripe is the new city.

I cant believe how small the map is. Surely SR 2 was bigger?

The city also seems lifeless like there's not much to do (apart from activities)

Those big feckers that run at ya during some gang missions are a ****. Take ages to kill.

The story and missions are fun which i expected.

As I say i'm still enjoying it but because SR 2 is my favourite game maybe I built the third up too much. Apart from some gripes the game is great fun so I cant complain too much.

Haven't played co-op yet (waiting for my mate to get the game) so my opinion might change a bit once I play it.

    Take ages to kill.
Piss off the Deckers, rob a Shock Hammer from a Roller Girl. The big guys won't be any great difficulty after that (and it's a pretty class weapon regardless :D)

Anyone have this for the 360? Screen tearing is meant to be a major issue with it compared to the PS3 version? The is a v-sync option on the 360 version but it will result in dropped frames.

Lens of truth.com did a comparison and there was 50% screen tearing on the 360 version with zero on the PS3!

The screen tearing is driving me mad on 360! I thought i was having that problem because im running my 360 through my pc monitor. Its the first console game ive gotten in months and i already miss being able to tinker around with the system files to fix things :( looks like we'll have to wait for a patch!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,101 ✭✭✭notahappycamper

Is there an option in settings to turn the v-sync on?

Finished with 100% save in 22:18
Still got assassinations and car stealing to do though.
I've also bought some of the invincibility upgrades.
How is the dlc content coming out next year (in season pass) going to work when I don't take damage?

Does this game not save automatically? I played 4 hours of it Friday night and turned it on last night and there was no save game. I turned it off in disgust. Probably my own fault but I thought autosave was a standard thing on games now.

Aside from that, I'm not hugely impressed. The map is not that big, the driving physics are poor, the missions etc are OTT and kinda fun but I feel a bit underwhelmed by the whole game. I don't feel it's hugely improved from SR2 at all which I loved

The graphics engine in SR3 is just amazing. Apart from really kick ass graphics that run smooth as silk (PC) the way the game takes over control for in-mission cut-scenes and then hands back control is just epic. Also the cut-scenes make those in every other sandbox style game just look so crap due to how good the animation is.

Sadly while the missions themselves are for the most part awesome the story connecting them is ****. It feels like there are missing story elements which I hope were not just cut out to feed DLC further down the road and overall the story just feels weak and rushed :(

It does autosave but I lost some progress when it crashed at one point so doesn't look like it autosaves everytime.

Graphics are great but fps is a bit dodgy (ATI card here). New drivers last week improved it a lot.

I just recently finished Saints Row 2 and the narrative was much better in that. In 3 there were often big gaps between story cutscenes and a lot of filler missions. It got better near the end though.

Got it today for 99c after trading in Uncharted 3 at GAME

Not very impressed and will either trade it in while it's worth something or leave it gather dust until I'm bored of Battlefield 3 (unlikely)

I reallly dislike the new way you do mission's from your phone. It removes a lot of what i enjoyed from the previous saints row's, Its just doesnt feel right to me and their is a huge disconect when you start missions and end them, nothing happens so far, you get a mission and then when you beat it your loaded outside on the street and its like nothing ever happened.

Also the stupid loading screen for every single thing, I started one mission it then shows my character walking for a moment then a load screen for a guy to drive up to me for about 2 seconds then a load screen back to me ingame was absolutely pointless. and i also hate hateeeeeeeee that you dont speak to any npc's in shops you just walk in to every building and press triangle, same with the crib which is really anoying "press triangle" constantly on screen.

Very bad design decisions in my opinion.

Well I finished the story tonight with both endings. I would give it 6.5

Some of the game had me in stitches and for comic value alone I would go ahead and get it.

If anyone is looking for it cheap you can find it at 18 quid at http://cdkeyshere.com/saints-row-the-third-cd-key.html?tracking=4df6765b94328&currency=EUR for PC

I'm not a shill btw :P I just use this site to price my games http://www.dlcompare.com/games/saintsrow3-215

From a console point of view the PS3 version is the one to get - even with v-sync on with the 360 version the frame rate drops in parts to 20 fps:eek:

No screen tear on the PS3 version at the expense of fps - something to do with it having a triple buffer compared to the 360 double buffer I believe.

Dunno why but didnt do any of the main missions just Hitman, for one i had to have plastic surgery so picked Zombie voice.

Then i did the main mission where Pierce and ME are singing, ****ing hilarious. Unintentional but worth doing, could be the 1st story mission after you arrive but change your voice to Zombie :D

Was going to get this for Christmas but doesn't seem to be all that great judging by people's reactions here. Wasn't a huge fan of SR2 and this seems to only be a small step up, if even.

Might go for something else now instead. I'll check out a few gameplay vids over the next week or so

If you didn't like SR2 this is not the game for you, maybe try Skyrim :)

Please don't say there is only 3 levels of insurance fraud - easy, medium and hard?

Me and my mate completed all them in around 10 minutes yesterday.

In SR2 there were 2 insurance frauds on the map each with 6 levels so it took a longer to do which is good.

Continue through the story, more activities unlock on the other islands after a few missions
    after finishing Back to Steelport
and found another Insurance Fraud, not searched them all so maybe more out there. Also makes the Trail Blazer, Escort and Rampage missions pop up too.

If you hover your cursor over one of the 4 islands it gives a breakdown of everything on the island, inclusing how many activities there are and how many you have finished, around 15/16 on each island of various types.

F*ck no. As much as I didn't like SR2, I hated Oblivion and gave up after about 3 hours. Just never liked that type of game at all, but that's another discussion for another day

I hated Oblivion aswell, could never get into it so wasn't overly pushed about Skyrim but a friend assured me it's worth it. I have to admit it's without a doubht GOTY already and one of the best games i've ever played. :o

Did anyone else notice that there no booze shops anymore? Was playing co op yesterday and noticed there was none. Played about 3 hours co op yesterday was great fun, the RC possesor is deadly, my mate controlled my plane just about to take off and blew it up on me haha.

  • Registered Users Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Robby91

While I haven't finished the campaign (I've been playing with 2 different people and haven't made huge progress on either character), I must say the game's not as fantastic as I was hoping it'd be. The weapons and most of the story missions I've used/completed so far are class. I just wish the turning in vehicles was less sensitive (for PC, it feels a little bit less chaotic than SR2 but it's still a pain in the ass at times), and the airplane controls annoy the **** out of me >_>

One of my co-op partners harrassed me with that on Saturday... I was really confused as to why some crazy 'driver' kept running me over in the middle of a gunfight  It's dead handy for carjacking though, feels pretty great to take control of a nice car just as it drives off :P

Yea i noticed this today to, the city seems very small compared to SR 1 & 2 :(
I cant even find any of those prostitute mini games that use to be in it.

Planes are a nightmare to control.

If you tip LB or RB (on xbox) the whole plane nearly goes upside down its so sensitive.

You can do both endings. Do both to get all the missions marked as finished. I saved them and then killed him
