I'll probably get hammered for this, but it doesn't seem as pretty as the first two. For some reason, when I was playing it, it came in to my head, hey this isn't bad for a budget game.

I am only playing it for about an hour with elizabeth and already I'm madly in love with her. She's like a none irritating version of zooey deschanel.

It's infinitely prettier than the first two games. You must be doing something wrong. Settings?

It feels to me as if there was alot stripped down for this game. The level design is much more linear imo and gameplay elements such as Laying traps are not as important in this game nor is the scavange hunting element. I still prefer it to 2 though

It's written on the cover for jaysus sake :D

Got it on Steam, so no cover.

They have a game description I read for the first time just now...

    "About the Game
Indebted to the wrong people, with his life on the line, veteran of the U.S. Cavalry and now hired gun, Booker DeWitt has only one opportunity to wipe his slate clean. He must rescue Elizabeth, a mysterious girl imprisoned since childhood and locked up in the flying city of Columbia. etc etc."

I don't remember any of that being said or implied in the game so far. I remember a boat going to a lighthouse for some reason, then getting in a chair and going to the city (I assume my character already knew this place existed because he expressed no shock at a floating city) then some kind of fair then police start shooting at me for another unknown reason.

If that's ALL you got from your first hour or so, you might want to give up on it or maybe start again. The story is quite intricate, detailed and complex. Something that kind of warrants your attention the whole way through.

I recommend searching everywhere for the voxophones (you might not even have come across them yet). They really flesh out the story details and the characters.

Almost everything anyone says in this game is there for a reason. It all helps to flesh out the storyline etc, even the very first conversation in the game.

Is a head trauma similar to playing it on an xbox 360?
    possibly :pac:

The first spoken word in the game is "Booker" so right there you have his first name. Within the first minute, you are given a case with Booker DeWitt on it. It also has "7th Cavalry Wounded Knee". So, you have a name, and something of his background. You are given a picture with "Elizabeth" written on it. On the back, "Bring to New York Unharmed." Before even entering the lighthouse, you see a sign saying "DeWitt... Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt.... This is your last chance!" In the lighthouse, you see a guy on a chair, with another warning to DeWitt that it is his last chance. This is all stuff before you even get in the chair. If you missed all that from the first 3 minutes of the game, I'd suggest you play the game from the start again, but lose the blindfold, and switch off mute for good measure.

Not only that, but before you go into Columbia you get baptised and you pass out. The next scene brings you back to Bookers apartment where a voice says "Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt"

It just sounds like you aren't paying attention at all.

    Another email to confirm cancellation.

Still waiting on the legit one to go through.

    EDIT: Both cancelled. Damn.

Still €30 short by these f'ckers. The paypal refund went through and straight back to my account but one of the CC payments went through and wasnt cancelled despite multiple confirmations form their support that everything was returned.

Its not a huge amount but on principle I'm pissed.

Finished it tonight, after playing in fits and starts. To be honest, whilst I nearly always play games on the harder difficulty levels, I was so fed up of the combat I dropped down to medium. It got so utterly tedious & is the weakest component of this game by far. Start to finish the world of Columbia was marvellous, a real visual treat for those who enjoy the artistry of game design, but the levels themselves were cookie-cutter shooting galleries & arena fights that quickly became predictable. The back-tracking didn't help either, and the much-vaunted skylines didn't really add any tactical elements to the fighting. Enter room, shoot, wait for the musical sting to tell you the room was clear, carry on. Rinse & repeat. A fun game to look at it maybe, not a fun game to play.

Otherwise, looking back on the whole thing it felt like it was trying too hard to repeat the quirkiness of the original, but it had little consistency in its context. By the time I found myself
fighting a quantum bullsh*t ghost for goodness' sake
I had given up believing in this fictional world. To be fair to BioShock 1, at least elements such as the plasmids were crafted into the universe & thematically everything else had its place. The plasmids, Big Daddies, splicers; they all had a context that worked & made sense. In Infinite however, it just felt like a bunch of oddball, random components shovelled-in so they could tick off the requisite oddities expected in a BioShock game. No effort was made to tether things like the vigors into the world, and when they did - such as
    the aforementioned ghost
    - it was wrapped in some quantum techno-babble that was borderline hilarious.

Bought this over the weekend, having not really enjoyed Bioshock 1 or 2, just decided to give this a chance seeing as there is not much else out there at the mo, have actually never been that big on single player games (with a few standout exceptions such as Mirror's Edge, Read Dead Redemption, Portal 2 and more recently Far Cry 3) but I am absolutely loving this. Makes me feel like I should go back and play the first Bioshock again as I may not have given it a fair chance.

You should. In some ways, infinite is better but plenty of others....bioshock 1 is superior. For starters, Rapture is a much more frightening, foreboding and scary place. Columbia is just nice to walk around in. :P

I had BioShock on the 360 and while I loved the setting and story I found the gameplay itself horribly clunky and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I got a copy of BioShock with my Infinite pre-order on Steam and I had reinstalled it. The controls were just as frustrating on the PC and I was in the middle of tweaking them to my liking when I got distracted with a new SSD.

But I will get back to it!

Trying not to read anything here, as I don't want anything spoiled. Playing through this now and.. it constantly amazes me how amazing it is. Everything is just .. great.

Finally a game has figured out how to do "escort missions" correctly, alongside a character that you genuinely feel for and want nothing to happen to. The music is just incredible too.. the little moments throughout that make it just wonderful..

Probably has been posted already, but I stood there for a good 10 minutes just listening to this..

This as well.. I loaded up that chapter twice, just so I could listen to it too.. it was so heart warming

What I love most about this game is that it rewards you for paying attention and for exploring - sometimes with ammo, health, gear, but mostly with little moments like those that could so easily have been missed.

Plus I was a massive fan of the first Bioshock and thought it impossible that anything could have beaten the initial reveal of Rapture, but when you first step on to Columbia - the music, the scenery, before getting your first glimpse of the skyline.. well.. I got shivers.

I don't want this game to end.
    Ever.

Anyone know the best price for the PC version?

Looking at Kinguin and they seem to be the cheapest, but I've never used them and curious if anyone has and what they are like.

Started it yesterday and finished it not too long ago. Really enjoyed the story and the ending was great but I found it incredibly easy. Played it on hard as it was my first run through and expected something of a challenge but at most I died 7 times. There was an abundance of weapons, ammo and vigors and none of the enemies were the least bit taxing. Hopefully the 1999 mode will be more challenging.

I must be well crap at FPS games ^^ I always find these games a challenge, even on medium!

Bought this for the 360 a few weeks back, got to just after you save the girl ... not played it since, just been busy - must get back to it, was really enjoying it. A lot more than I did the other 2.

it's most likely because you're crap at FPS with a controller. don't worry all of us are.

If I'm going to get a COD game these days, i intentionally get it on a console. Usually takes about 6 hours on console, but if i played on a pc I'd clear it before I'd finish a can of coke. but games that i'll enjoy like bioshock they need to be on pc for me. combo of controls + visuals can't be beaten ;)

I'm thoroughly looking forward to wading my way through the "Ending" thread; but I'm still taking my time with the game.

    Right now; I've just
armed the vox populi with Chen Lin's weapons (who seems to die, regardless?), taken down the zepellin, and stormed the entrance to Fink's factory.
Any idea roughly how far into it I am? (Without spoiling anything!)

quite close to the end iirc

I'm not far from where you are spankmaster, and also looking forward to reaching the ending and venturing into the other thread! But at the same time I'm loving the game and don't want it to be over.

Having said that, I can't say I've found it much of a challenge. I'm playing on normal and most of my deaths were due to me being silly and launching myself into large groups of heavily armed enemies. Next time I play it I'll definitely go for hard or 1999.

No DRM? I don't think we'll see this DRM free any time soon. Very few big titles are DRM free.

Its Steamworks so no non DRM version exists either retail or download.
