When I upload all my runs to garmin connect they're all untitled, but one run I did last week came up as "garrison running" anyone have this happen? I've a fr310xt

  • Registered Users Posts: 236 ✭✭kookiebrew

Never had that but when mine wouldn't download I checked history and a three mile run that I didn't do appeared out of nowhere... Strange

Mine all come-up as 'Kilkeel Running'. It's Garmin Connect's sh1tty attempt to try and identify where your run took place and insert the place-name into the activity title. It's crap. Ironically, in the US last week, it worked perfectly, even in small towns, so it looks like an Irish map problem.

Yeah, if our experience as anything to go by, Garrison will be some place about a hundred miles to the north of you.

That makes sense thanks, sounds like a good idea if it worked. I was in Sligo for the weekend don't know what garrison and Sligo have to do with each other.

Nearest UK village to Sligo I would say.

Pity the London Marathon wouldn't take Garmin logs as proof of residence.

Lads, I just got a new garmin, only a forerunner 220 as my old watch was borked. I have it set to automatic time, and I have it set to GPS on, but the time is off by 7 hours!

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

    Is the timezone correct?

Has it connected to GPS ok?

Once you set the GPS on it will automatically click into the local time.

Super watch by the way, I have had mine for 15 months and don't have a single complaint.

The timezone is auto detected, and it's connected to GPS, but it's currently 19:50 in on my Garmin :/

I had the Garmin 110 and had a lot of issues with it from the day I got it, I'm really hoping I don't have the same bad luck with this one :pac:

    Strange.
Go for a run with it and it normally kicks into the correct timezone when you switch off the GPS/finish the activity. Happens me every time I go to a different timezone...

I'm not allowed run today. How cruel is that? No running the day you get your new garmin.

Might go for a little trot just for watch calibrating purposes :D

Is there any fix for this do you know? I got a new Garmin 2 weeks ago (FR220) and all my runs come up as NewtownButler. A quick check shows NewtownButler to be in Fermanagh and 66KM North :-)

Complain to Garmin through their forums and support team. I didn't have this problem on a recent trip to the US, so seems to be predominantly an Irish issue.

Yeh All mine come up as Kilkeel too, and I ran in Sligo last week and that was Garrison!

I emailed Garmin on this back in January. They told me Id have to change the names manually!

Keep at it. Don't give in.

Yeah, I'll follow up on my last email to them. Its not the end of the world but you would expect a company which specialises in GPS equipment to at least get locations right!

IIRC others on the Garmin forum have experienced this too, its not just an Ireland issue.

Was coming here to ask the same.

My 310xt is doing the same, in the last week all my runs now get uploaded with the title Garrison Running. I'm in Mayo, do not think this naming is based on location.

    Glad its not just me.

Well, it is actually. Except that location happens to be 50-70 miles NW of Mayo, in Northern Ireland. It looks like Garmin doesn't have any locations for the Republic of Ireland and is simply choosing the nearest town in NI. That's why those of us on the East Coast get Kilkeel, and those on the West coast get Garrison.

My run in Greystones last night actually took place in Treardrur, in Wales. At least you're on the same land-mass!

Amazing how strava manage to pick Dublin,Dublin,Ireland out of a map with ease.

Having said that I always rename my runs anyway, not really sure what the point of just having the location is, most of my runs are in the same location anyway.

It is based on location. Garrison is a town in Fermanagh. The closest town in the UK to Mayo

When you upload your track, Garmin gets the GPS coordinates, then checks to see what the closest town that they have in their database is. Unfortunately, they don't have any Irish towns, only UK ones. If you run in Dublin, Kilkeel is the closest town they have, so that's what it gets named as. Until Garmin update their databases with Irish towns, it will continue to happen

Cheers, but you should be posting in the Garmin Connect forum, not in the Forerunner 620 forum, as it's not related to your watch. Here's a more appropriate thread, which might not get as lost (as your workouts!).
