Which cache cleaner are you using?

It's just called cache cleaner. The symbol is like a recycling sign with three white arrows.

Do you use the stock browser to view these boards?

I've tried Opera, Dolphin, Fennec... stock HTC is the best IMHO.

I've now extensively tried the stock browser, Dolphin, Fennec, new Firefox beta, Opera and xscope 6.1. I must say xscope is the best for me by far. Very quick, great page rendering and handles tabs well and quickly. Big thumbs up for me :D

I always do because i need to flick to m.boards.ie quickly when opening from an email.

When you click on the address bar in the stock browser it highlights the rest of the url after 'http://www.' then I just need to move the cursor one place to the left and press back space 3 times and type 'm'. Find it quickest to do that on stock than any other browser.

Download this app: Quick System Info PRO (it's free, the PRO just means it's ad-supported)

It has a one-touch widget for cleaning the caches which is great, the widget is called Quick Cache Cleaner

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/boardsie-enhancement-suite/

    Chrome/Edge/Opera: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/boardsie-enhancement-suit/bbgnmnfagihoohjkofdnofcfmkpdmmce

Thanks for the suggestion, I have it now.
Quick question, would I get more internal memory if my phone (HTC Desire) was rooted?

Just by rooting? No. But there are a couple of things you can do while rooted that will free up space:
    • Delete 'preinstalled' apps you don't need. I wouldn't recommend uninstalling any Google apps (might break something) but there's a couple of 'crapware' apps that invariably come preinstalled
    • Install Apps2SD. Haven't done this myself, but it's apparently a lot better than the FroYo implementation.
    • You could install one of the leaner Custom ROMs that have stripped out lots of the unnecessary features. Someone else will be able to better advise you on this point

Must recommend Root Explorer for all us root users out there, instead of using adb you can just put stuff onto the sd card like boot animations and push them to data/local with this app. Class!

    Guys,

I'm heading to the US for a few days soon and don't want to get hit with roaming charges so will remove my sim card before getting on the plane and pick up voicemails using Skype on my laptop and call people back once a day the same way.

I don't really want to bring my laptop just to check emails and voicemails and am wondering if I load the Skype app on my Samsung Galaxy will I be able to make calls with it when I'm logged onto a wi-fi hot sopt? I tried loading Skype before but when you go to make a call it says it's not configured for 'my country'. I assume it's getting the IP address and determining this. If I'm in the US would I have the same issue or will it see me as a US user and let me make calls?

    Cheers,

    Ben

I haven't seen that issue with Skype before, another option would be to download SIP Droid and get a pay as you go Blueface account. I've used it all over the world without issue.

    Hi Paddy2k,

    thnaks for the advice.

SipDroid looks like it needs a bit of setting up and I'm not that technically gifted. Is it easy to set up? When I'm connected to a wi-fi network and select a contact to call will it automatically initiate and call my contact via Blueface?

I'm used to using MoCall (http://www.mo-call.com/en) which I have to say was simple to set up and works a dream. If I go to make an international call the Android app automatically identifies that it's an international call and routes it through a local Dublin number. Serious savings Vs Vodafone but I'm guessing I'd have to be roaming in the US and have changed my 'home' country to the US to be able to make cheap VOIP rate calls back to Ireland.

I'd really like to have a solution I can use on wi-fi and not roam at all. Do you think SipDroid will do that for me? Is 3CXPhone for Android a similar app?

    Ben

Could anyone recommend a movie player for avi files and the likes, also is there program that will convert files to the appropriate size so they don't take up so much space on your memory card?

Rockplayer will play avi files. Not sure of an app to convert files though.

Vuze has a beta video converter built in. You connect your device, it recognises it and what the best conversion is for your display, you drag your regular movie into the device area and it converts it. At least that's my reading of it!!

Get Rmaps with Mobile Atlas Creator if you get a chance. Great for avoiding roaming charges in foreign countries.

Can't see how that is a better method than the normal keyboard. maybe it i great after you get used to it, but seem unnecessarily abstract imo.

I don't think 8pen could possibly replace Swype / SlideIt.

    Hi guys,
Getting the Galaxy Tab today and was wondering are there many Android apps out there that will scale properly to the bigger screen.

    Cheers,
    M

can't see it replacing the stock keyboard on my nexus. can maybe see it being beneficial in long run. but the time required to get used to it is probably too much. also it does not save any screen space so why spend effort to get used it?!
