Thanx Ste, so far all the apps seem to be scaling fine on the Galaxy Tab.

I think they over thought the 8pen interface. It's a good idea but way too complicated to be embraced by people other than those really in to giving it a lot of their time to get used to.

I was surprised they rearranged the letters to allow quicker selection of the most commonly used letters. It's not really quicker if you've to examine the whole grid to find the letter you want. At least if it was clockwise A-Z you'd have a quick natural comprehension of where the letters are.

You could say the same for the qwerty keyboard, but it has made it. I don't think people have room in their brains for two vastly different keyboard layouts.

also it does not save any screen space so why spend effort to get used it?!

It doesn't need as much space as the stock keyboard, there is an option to make it about half the size of the stock keyboard.

You can also make it transparent (although this doesn't seem to have been implemented properly yet).

All it needs is the central dot. Once you have learned the layout of the letters you don't need to look at it anymore.

Isn't that one of the things google voice actions does?

Think you need 2.2 for it though.

There was another app I saw demoed specifically for this purpose but I forget the name of it.

Anyone else having problems with Google voice actions?

e.g not being very good at recognizing your voice?

When i downloaded it, it said it only available in English(American)

This is prob why its not very good at getting it right

Anyone know when it will be compatible will Irish accents?

There is a version for English(West Cork) in development, but they can't find anyone who actually understands the accent ;)

Google Voice Commands works well for me, try Vlingo maybe.

Can you actually write txts and emails with Google Voice? It doesn't seem to work for me like in the video.
Vlingo does it pretty well too.

Most work but the one thing I can't get voice actions to do is the "listen Decemberists" to play music like the nice man on the help video does. I changed to us "english" which enabled most other functions.

You need something like last.fm or pandora for the music. It doesnt use local music files yet

Lads, anyone been using or know of a good stable native Android BitTorrent client? Now I have the Galaxy Tab it would be so much handier to download stuff straight to it without having to download to a PC and then connect the USB cable etc. etc.

    Cheers,
    M

Only used it once as a proof on concept really. I used opera mini to download the .torrent file. then loaded it into aBTC. Not sure if you can autload it.
Or can remember how to do it.

Just found a workaround, you need Chrome To Phone Installed on phone and Chrome on your PC and Opera on Galaxy Tab or handset.

There's a few torrent applets online like bitlet.org, might work in the dolphin browser.
    Actually no, needs java plugin.

There's Red Torrent or FreeTorrent on the market but they don't have 5 stars.

TweetDeck is probably as good an app I've seen on the market.

About time we start getting this quality of app for android.

Updated list of what I use since switching to the Desire HD.

3g Watchdog - keeps track of mobile data.
App 2 SD - alerts pop up when an app can be moved to the SD card.
Barcode Scanner - useful for QR codes or barcodes.
Cabbage - great for accessing webtexts
Call Confirm - confirms if you want to dial out.
Dialer One - great replacement for the stock dialer.
Dilbert - great little daily comic.
Dropbox - great for accessing quotes/invoices for clients when I'm on the go.
Gmote - have the server side installed on my windows home server and works ok. I tend to to just use the mouse remote to watch stuff over VLC so I may be opting for a VLC remote soon.
Gtasks - google tasks widget, very handy.
Irssi Connectbot - great for accessing irssi when out and about.
Launcher Pro - awesome app and ended up paying for it.
mAnalytics - google analytics app, will probably pick up the ad free version of this soon as it's served me well for the last few months.
Newsrob - google reader app, haven't found a better one yet.
    Penetrate - wifi security app
SABcontrol - nice little remote app for accessing my SABnzbd client on my home server.
Scoreboard - scores in quite a few sports and can send updates on scores/half time/full time etc
Thefuelapp - app for pumps.ie, very useful and check it every time I'm going to get diesel.
Wordpress - I admin a few wordpress sites/blogs so find this extremely useful.

I've been using winamp sync for my podcasts but may switch to beyondpod after a few people on here said it was decent. Going to give the 7 day trial a go anyway.

Foodroid is great for controlling the Foobar2000 media player, you just have to install the foo_httpcontrol plugin on your pc.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but as an alternative music player, DoubleTwist is pretty good. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, so Audible is getting some good usage from me, but you currently need an Audible.com (not .co.uk) account to use it properly. Only negative, compared to the iPhone version, is that you can't seem to be able to import your own books, not a massive issue as I have two credits with them a month, but would be nice to import your own stuff.

My latest purchase is Safe Wallet by SBSH. It lets you keep track of logins, passwords, bank details, pin numbers, account numbers, etc. The wallet is encrypted with 256 bit AES encryption, and the app can be set to lock if idle for a certain amount of time, or if the screen shuts off.

It also has dropbox support, so you can keep a secure backup of the file online.

I used Awesome Drop last night for the first name. Absolutely brilliant little app! I was so impressed with how cool it looks!

I've been using 'Out of Milk' a lot recently too. I know it's just basically a note-pad to write your shopping list on but it's the sort of handy little app which I think will stand the test of time more than a lot of the more impressive-looking but pointless apps that you see.
