    Hi all,

Seeing as how we can't get Skype to work on our phones (unless you're with Three) I thought you might like to know that http://mo-call.mobi works very well. You launch the app, minimise it and when you dial an international number it automatically routes the call via an Irish landline. As an example calls to UK landlines are €0.02 a minute and calls to UK o2 phones are €0.09.

Simple and works well for me so far.

Would be interested to hear what others think and/or alternative services.

    Ben

Who said Skype won't work? I've used both Nimbuzz and Fring over Skype & didn't have a problem. Except that no-one uses feckin Skype so its not worth the hassle...

I use SkypeToGo (I think it's similar to what you're using). You register your phone number(s) with Skype. Then they give you an Irish number to ring. When you ring that it recognises your number and gives you a list of contacts you've registered on the system. Or you can press 2 to just diall another number.

So the cost is the cost of dialling the Irish numbe + the Skype cost for dialling the contact.

It saves messing about with software on your phone and it works with multiple numbers.

Is there any App that you can download a map of a particular city if you were on holidays and then add placemarks before you go? I have Co-pilot but can't seem to any to that which is a shame. Would be looking for something that you can use without having to go online if possible.

To be fair nobody should have time to go through 750 posts...having said that asking some one to go through it for you and summarize is a bit much.

Although it would be nice if someone did;)

The official XBMC app. It will control your XBMC box if you have one. The usual stuff.

But I noticed that some videos I click on the internet now give me an option to play on phone or play on XBMC. I've XBMC on a box under my TV so when I play on XBMC it appears on the TV after about 5 seconds. That is deadly.

It doesn't work for all video sites though (Youtube for example although it does work with Youtube if you use the jetVD app).

There's an unofficial one too, I'm not sure which I prefer...

I saw the XMBC (new term for me). I tried to download it to my windows 7 Acer laptop last night and have downloaded it to my phone just so i can have a remote for a media player on my laptop (for some reason Gmote doesn't seem to be pick up at home even with the server installed). Anyway I couldn't open it when downloaded as it said there were missing plug-ins. Anyone know a good a decent way of using my device to operate my music, videos, remotely?

There is a VLC (Videolan) remote too, that's worth a try. It is one of the best media players IMHO.

Sorry guys tried trawling through the thread for this but gave up at page 20!! Is there an app that lets you use your phone as the wireless pickup for your internet? As in it to allow me to pick up the signal from my wireless router?

    Cheers.

@niallo24 - do you mean that you want to connect to your home wireless to browse the internet? you can do this on the phone as standard. i added the "wifi manager" widget which i downloaded from the market though, this makes it easier.

No sorry, wasn't that clear! Want to use my phone to browse the internet on my PC. So instead of a wireless card connect the phone to the PC to pickup the signal. Fairly sure I have read there is an app that does this..

so you want to connect your phone by cable to your pc and from there you want the phone to act as a wireless adapter to connect to your home wifi so you can use the internet on your pc?

you can do that out of the box with froyo I believe using the usb cable. Choose usb tether when u connect the phone to the pc.

if you "tether" your phone to your pc and browse the web on the pc then you're using the mobile internet on your phone, not your home router wifi as the poster wants. from what i can see?

It seems niallo24 needs to use his phone as a wireless adapter as his PC doesn't have one. seems like a strange way of doing it, as I don't know how fast this would be.

Might be worth investing in a USB wireless adapter. e.g. http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=ECE1762107 Thats just the first one I found for about 20 euro. I'm sure if you search a few sites you'll find one for less even. Might be annoying to always keep your phone connected to your pc. if the phone rings, you would probably end up loosing your net connection.

I have never tried it but I assumed it would use whatever net connection your phone was using I.e. if it was connected to your wireless then it would use that. Is that not how it works?

    Just discovered MyPhoneExplorer

Basically it's like Nokia's PC Suite software. Syncs and lets you access your phonebook, calendar, messages etc from your PC/laptop.

For me this means I can be working away on the laptop and respond to texts etc without even picking up the phone :) - and it's free!

Works over wireless as well as USB.
