Aaargh... get out of my head man!!

    *Bang Bang... Shatter*

Anyone want the DLC codes for the Collectors Armour and Gun and the Terminus Armour and Gun?? I got all the stuff because of the Microsoft mistake on Monday morning, so I've no need for my codes!

Savage, the way the powers are mapped to the shoulder buttons is class, u truly feel like a bad ass - stringing cryo ammo, pull and shock wave together in a fire fight is brilliant craic. The odd time the cover system lets me down ESP when trying to vault over cover when someones behind u(seems to be pick and chose what cover you can or can't vault over) but besides that, the combat is as good as anyother third person shooter out there.

Oh and incase it hasent been mentioned; the visuals and dialogue are 5 steps above the last game.

All your codes gone Burning Eclipse?

I love the atmosphere in this game really does feel like its alive. One thing im very disapointed with is the Leveling up/Weapons aspect of it.

Only being able to get new guns by doing certain missions and not "finding" any anymore. Also going into shops you cant just buy ones youve never seen. It seems all geared towards "once you hit this part of the game, this weapon will be unlocked". Also not much depth to the whole leveling up at all.

And upgrading weapons is a bit off as again you cant upgrade untill you get certain parts which looks again like you only find them at set points in the game.

EDIT: Are there different armours anymore or just the add ons?

Codes went within minutes due to PMs, I'm afraid. They'll be sent on this evenin, once I get home from work.

I'm about 16-17 hours into this and it's been an amazing trip so far. Last night Mordin froze one of the Eclipse mercs, then Miranda used slam. Shattered the poor merc all over the ground. Win.

Woo, my copy just arrived in the post there. As our internet is screwed I'll defo be cracking into this instead of playing MAG tonight.

I'm 12 hours 42 mins in.... and I'm thinking of starting again.

I chose the infiltrator class. And it's absolutely rubbish. Even taking headsets, ye run out of sniper rifle ammo so quickly. And cloak is absolutely useless.

Was thinking last night that I'm gonna restart the game as a the soldier.

Besides the crappy infiltrator profile, I'm enjoying it so far. So much more polished than the first. But have still encountered a few bugs.

Every so often our NTL broadband drops out. You can see the lights on the modem react. But ME2 crashes if the broadband disconnects.... it's done it twice. Probably related to the Cerberus (copy protection by another name) network thing.

    Which is sort of retarded.

Thats nuts alright. Halo 3 and ODST are the same, in single player and your connection drops out you get dumped back at the start screen.

I'm just over 15hrs in myself and getting by fine with the soldier class currently at level 12. Ammo is tight at times, I have to lay low and let my team mates use biotics to finish the job.

Really? Didn't realise Halo 3 and ODST were like that as well.

In multiplayer it's understandable but in single player it's completely ridiculous

It crashed the entire game, right back to the xbox menu!

Never seen that happen before?! All my downloads stop when I play a disc though.....does that happen for everyone else?

Pain when I was trying downloading the DLC.

Yeah downloads stop if play any game that has multiplayer/online modes even if you are only playing single player at the time.

Downloads will still continue if you play a game like ME1 or Bioshock etc.

Can someone answer this about mass effect 2. In the first game I played it on normal difficulty which was a bit tricky at the start but soon the game was too easy because you were easily overpowering any enemies (as they didn't scale up). I'm not one to replay games over and over so if I get the second one is it the same? Is there a hard difficulty available from the start and is that the level to go for?

Also - how does the extra content (extra star system) work - do you have to have a pre-order version to get this? I read something about pre-owned not getting this - how does that work? if a normal new version now will I get the extra stuff?

  • Registered Users Posts: 55,473 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Not sure about the scaling (never played the first one, and I've only finished a couple of missions in ME2), but there is a Hard and an Insanity mode available from the start.

The extra content is done using the Cerberus system (a fancy way of saying an EA account). You create an account starting up -- its all transparent (Press A to create an account, accept T&Cs etc), and tied to your gamertag I'm sure. If you buy this game second hand, you can buy access to Cerberus. No idea how much it costs, but the option exists in game.

    It costs 1200 points.

Had a few issues myself actually starting a game this morning or resuming save, i'd load the game press start and get kicked back out to the bioware logo, with the messgae signed in profile has changed (not 100% on that ill check if i see it again.) but bloody annoying all the same.

It's a ridiculous time of the year!

I've Brutal Legend, Uncharted 1 and 2 sitting there. We have Dantes Inferno, Final Fantasy XIII, BioShock 2, Alien Vs Predator and a few more out before the end of April! Damn you job/life!

Hah, unfortunately for me, i'm backlogged bout 10 games or so. Everythin from resi 4 and mgs 3 on ps2, to killzone 2 and uncharted 1 on ps3, to assassin's creed ii and dead space on xbox. I don't believe i will be able to keep my mitts off mass effect when it arrives though. Anyone get their amazon pre-order yet?

Mine arrived this morning. Played a bit there on my lunch break.

I also have a ridiculous amount of games to play through at the moment. Picked up MAG on Friday, Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time arrived this morning too. Have a few 2009 games that I picked up in the sales and got my PSP up and running finally last week so have a load of games to get through on that too. Looks like there's going to be no let up in Feb and March either with Heavy Rain and God of War on the PS3, Alan Wake on the 360 and Bioshock 2, Bad Company 2 and other ones that may be worth checking out like Dante's Inferno etc.

Either way I jumped straight into ME2 and I don't think I'll be playing much else until I've thoroughly finished it! Just played the first 30 mins or so and I can't wait to get back to it. Helps that our internet is dodgy at the mo so online games are a bit out of the question!

Really enjoying it, I got up early this morning to play a little more. I'm a Soldier, the Adrenaline Rush is brilliant! There's nothing like get multiple headshots with the sniper rifle while time is slowed down.

The subtle effects of your decisions in the first game are really well done, I wonder who else I'm gonna run in to?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Really enjoying it so far, minor gripes about the not so RPG nature of some of the game aside (it feels more like BioShock than Dragon Age some of the time).

It's the little details that I'm loving, spent a few minutes tapping "A" on Ilium and listening to the "Bachelor party" conversation....hilarious and really well written.

I just bought and started playing ME2, having never played the original ME1. My son then mentioned that we actually have ME1 (a fact that evaded me for 1.5 years). I've only played an hour or two into ME2. Should I quit for a while and go back to ME1? how long would it take to run through?

I actually enjoy the fact that ME2 is a little less rpg and a little more shooter. Is the emphasis of ME1 on the rpg side of things?

ok went to input my dlc code, and for some reason the ea master cerberus account automatically created to a different email address than what i use on xbox live.

the instructions then said go online and enter the code on the same email address that you registered for in-game...

long story short... any one feel sorry enough to lend me a spare inferno suit code... pm me if you do.

i can maybe do a swap with someone and link my email to their account to sign in and get the code. inferno amazon armour by the way.

I've noticed the "streamlining" of the RPG elements too. Much less scope in character development, less weapons (lets face it, you get the next level weapon and very few people would ever go back to the previous one as far as I can see).

All the same, the story is excellent and the animation is really good.

    I particularly like Jack's story.

Making my through ME1 and little bit stuck:

    On the Noveria mission
I'm asked to break into Lorik Qu'ins office and recover files from his computer. Only problem is my decryption skill seems to be too low. However i'm locked into the room so can't go back and get another team member with a higher skill. Stuck!

edit: forget it. if i'd bothered exploring the map a bit more i would have
discovered where his computer actually was.

I thought it was wrong in ME1 or maybe just badly executed I had numerous complaints about weapons and levelling up etc, but now it's like ME1 lite in that respect, or ME: for dummies. They over simplified things way too much for my liking.

Sometimes I really don't like to get bogged down with stats and levelling but here I miss it , feels more like a 3rd person shooter on a par with boarder lands level of simplicity minus the cool weapons :(

Can you tell after 10 play hours i'm feeling a bit let down by it ???

I don't miss driving around those planets though.

Edit : guess what I'm feeling is it doesn't feel like a bioware game play wise to me, and game play wise isn't as strong as the 1st so far.
I'm felling a lot of reasons to skip through stuff unlike the 1st one ?

Really dissapointed with the RPG dumming down. Whats the point of having no new weapons in the game. Its just use this weapon/then you progress and find a better weapon in a very linear path. Why would anyone use an older gun.

Would of been way cooler to say for example be told of this "planet" where there is a brilliant legendary weapon but the enemies there are say for a level 50 character. So you have the option to try and get the weapon whenever you feel like.

And there are no different Armour types. Just upgrades. (which you can only get as you progress with the story). You cant even kit out your allies now with different armour types. And whats the point in even having a weapon loadout option, why would anyone choose the older gun??

I actually like leveling up in games, or trying to find new weapons and sell old weapons to shops and things. There is nothing in this like that.

Would of been a 10/10 game for me if they had those sort of elements.

And the shooting in this game is very clumsy and not alot of depth to it. Your allies constantly stand out in the open even when you give them instructions. Ive an upgraded sniper rifle now and all I have to do is bang bang and they're dead.

The atmosphere/story/characters are what make this a good game.

    8/10 here to be honest.

That's the way I feel about it. Storywise, it's excellent and has the typical Bioware dept and flair. But the gameplay is just a shooter with talking. And I still don't know why weapons don't have stats. Even a one liner saying "this weapon is more powerful than the last" would of done.

    And about Jack,
how come the cut scene where she's released makes her out to be an unstoppable power house, but when you have her on your team she's knocked unconsious with a few shots?
Seems an oddly inconsistent detail for a Bioware game.

And how come you cna't automatically remove your helmet. It kind of takes away from things when people who haven't seen you in years recognise you, despite wearing body armour and a full helmet. Is there an option to make your helmet invisible, like in the first game?

I couldn't care less about the loss of weapon and armour micro-management. It was by far the least appealing part of ME1 to me. I did, however, prefer the leveling up from ME1. Although I would say that I'm more strategic about leveling up now. As in, I'll hold over 2 points till the next level to unlock the lv4 specialisation. Otherwise, I find this better in every way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭RAIN

I agree with Burning Eclipse, I actually was not a major fan of ME:1. It felt clunky and apart from a few exceptions all the weapons were the dang same.

The only thing I will agree with is the fact that you can't change your squads armour etc blows, I figured an option like that would open up later in the game.

I want that stat building from Dragon Age because of the nature of the combat, Mass Effect 2's is super streamlined and they concentrate on the character development / exploration elements of an RPG. I prefer the customization options in the this game. Its like they drew a line in the sand and said we are an action rpg if you want to play more tradition stuff then hit one of our other games.

Got this yesterday and am absolutely blown away. Have imported my character but binned his looks as it seems that any attempt to make him look like me just ended up with some horrid Peter Beardsley like monstronsity. I look nothing like him. Honest.

I stick with the Shepard default look. Everytime I tried to make my own face he looks like a douche.
