Cut lawns are you mad? id prefer to be chillin with a few cans than working in the sunshine.

I'm new to this site and this topic is one that really gets me going......

the social welfare system in this country is a major factor in it's decline, now more than ever.......there is absolutely no incentive to work here and for those of us that are, we are working harder than ever with major cuts to support these beach bums drinking cans and lying on the beach all day!!!!!

OF COURSE, there are people who need social assistance but i know and fear the vast majority have been abusing the system for years.....

HOW ABOUT THIS FOR AN IDEA????????

ANY PHYSICALLY FIT PERSON ON THE DOLE WORKS FOR THE COMMUNITY WHETHER IT BE LITTER, ROAD MAINTENCE ETC. ATLEAST OUR AREAS WOULD BE BETTER AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE USED TO WORK BUT CANNOT FIND WORK NOW WOULD APPRECIATE THE CHANCE TO BE DOING SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE I THINK????

I could go on but this is my first post.....hope there is people out there that agree????

    Hi jk,

There's a forum for this general sort of discussion called After Hours and it's located here -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=7, or even try politics located here -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=99

It's not a discussion for the Galway City forum, and certainly not a discussion for this thread.

Any further posts about social welfare, or other off-topicness from anyone will result in infractions.

    /moderation

I dunno if this is the right post for here but we're always in need of experienced gymnastic coaches (we've plenty of inexperienced ones in training right now). If you're a coach and you've been looking for a gym to work in contact Sally, the head coach in Renmore Gymnastics club Galway email renmoregymnastics@gmail.com.

We could do with someone with a bit of elite experience ideally. And we're always on the look out for coaches.

-stop looking for all "**** jobs" -get some skills and do something more challenging! I was stuck in shop-restaurant-hotel kind of jobs for to long - people running this kind of places are simple and without any respect for anyone and anyway -it sucks! Hate it, hate it ,hate it!!!!!!!!!!
After almost ten years I said -thats enough ,learned what I always wanted and somehow I am sucessfull. This world is heading for mechanization and soon there wont be any jobs at all for not educated people without any skills. Belive in yourselfs and start doing what you really love instead of beeing other people slaves! Please :)

So what you're saying is that everyone should quit their jobs in search of something better. Till they get the better thing should they live on the streets as they have no money to pay for anything due to them not having a job?

I do suggest to try hard to open mind and keep trying change something ,because I know how depresing bad job could be and how low you can feel doing what you hate. Of course sometimes we have no choice ,but if you really want something you will get it. Dont get stuck and think you cant do any better and this is the way it's gonna be forever. We have only one life probably and it's to bad to spend it beeing miserable!

Thats assuming other jobs are available. You're competing for unskilled labour with a lot of people from other countries at this stage, not that they are neccessarily unskilled, they mightn't have a professional level of English in order to take advantage of their skills. I knew a Moldovan bank manager back in 2002 who was doing slabbing on the sites here because the pay was better and thats what he could get.

A lot of people have recognised this and are going back to higher education, some are using this as a safe haven during the economic difficulties and as an opportunity to increase their skills, which is fine as far as it goes. So yes I'd agree with Surime, do what you enjoy, learn and give yourself options, especially if you were in the building or construction trades, thats going to be gone for a long time to come.

If you've already got skills and are doing what you like of course, learn another language. If you can pick up German for example you've just opened a jobs market of 80 million to yourself.

My advice is to forget pubs/tills/retail generally and give yourself some choices.

A US-based telecommunications company has announced the creation of 100 new jobs in Galway.

A US-based telecommunications company has announced the creation of 100 new jobs in Galway over the next three years.
Genband is investing €8m in Galway to establish its international headquarters and business services centre there. The company's investment is being supported by IDA Ireland.
The new jobs will be in finance, supply chain management, customer support, software development, HR, legal and administrative activities.
The Texas based company has operations in 50 countries providing digital infrastructure and services for the telecommunications industry. 100 jobs will be created over the next three years with the first of those coming on stream before Christmas.
'Ireland's breadth of high-quality, skilled human resources made Galway an ideal setting for our expansion, particularly when combined with the region's competitive cost structure and leadership as a telecommunications corridor,' commented Genband's President and chief executive Charlie Vogt.
Announcing the jobs, the Minister for Social Protection Éamon Ó Cuív said Genband's operations is perfectly aligned with Ireland's status as a smart economy.
