Due to a freakish coincidence, 6th wouldn't need to do it (here, at any rate) with posts earlier than August 2005.

Its almost as though it was planned in advance ;)

But can we trust a database maintained by someone called Cult?

How do we know a load of earlier posts were not deleted?

BTW, if you think I'm mad check my Join Date and UserID and then UserID of some other poster in June 2001 or later...

    Excerpts from a Cat's Diary ?

    Day 983 of my captivity.
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. B*st*rds.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now.........

@captain_furball: Hilarious but edited poorly. Try this frightfully realistic satire:

@all: I'm not looking for a humor forum. I'm looking for humor thread. An identifiable one at that. I don't think the current sticky set-up is intuitive enough. If the topic is CT then CT humor isn't exactly off-topic, now is it?

Why was Mahatma_coats 'The lighter side of CT' merged? (I've asked this before but don't recall the answer)

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭bonkey

It was merged Because we feel that four stickied threads is enough, and that there's no real need for multiple "off-topic" threads.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 214 ✭✭ilivetolearn

Cheers Mr.B, but what about my point on semantics/intuitiveness? I'm sure if they're was a dedicated thread then we could avoid fresh thread start ups?

Furthermore, what about my point on humor not being off-topic?

I view a humor thread as an outlet for built-up tensions between proponents and opponents.

That's another thing. Can we consider revising the use of 'CT'er' and 'skeptic'. To me they colloqially mean something that different to their original definitions. They're too broad a generalization in which a proponent or opponent of a given theory is assumed to maintain that stance will all theory's.

e.g. I believe in the globalization NWO theories and therefore I'm a proponent and will be regarded as a CT'er. I don't believe in the flat earth theory, lizards, Nostradamuse etc. and will therefore be an opponent and regarded as a skeptic.

My point is that the nomenclature isn't revised on case per case basis rather it sticks as overall generalization.

This is just my opinion. Others might see this completely differently but let me know either way.

    Interesting points...

Whatever about teh use of "skeptic" and "CTer", there is certainly a case to be made for renaming some of the sticky forums - this and "Opinions" particularly. We should probably continue any discussion of this in the "Opinions" thread rather than here, though.

A comparision of 1984 and Brave New World. Both fantastic books with distopian themes but differ in the way the masses are controlled. 1984 it's through fear, Brave New World through frivolity and pleasure.
