Medical done. Guys who do it are great. Professional and friendly.

In anticipation for the past few weeks I had my BP measured by a paramedic and doctor who are family members. It was fine.

When I got it measured earlier it was higher than normal so I have to go to my own GP and get it measured again.

To be honest I have been very nervous the past few days leading up to this. I also have a job interview tomorrow which is also on my mind.

I hope I can put this to the back of my mind so that when the GP measures it it is fine again. I will wait until Friday to get it done until I am destressed again incase it is still slightly high.

    White coat syndrome lol

Sounds like White Coat Syndrome for sure ;)

If still a bit high when your GP measures it , ask about getting a BP Monitor for 24 hours - you wear it the whole time and every hour it takes a reading - a lot of people thought to have high BP are discovered not to in fact have it after using a 24 hr monitor.

    Good luck !

Appreciate it. Have to say it put a real dampner on the the days proceedings.

I hope it gets back to normal ASAP. Though i will wait until Thurs or Fri to call into doctor's as I have a job interview tomorrow and currently pissing my pants about that.

I read about that also Delancey.

When I was getting it done I could feel myself sweating and heart pounding lol

The last 3 readings I had done in the comfort of my own home were 130/86 126/80 and 122/82

    Nota nice experience tbh.

To anyone who reads this the medical is done in a very relaxed and professional enviroment. Nothing to worry and the nursesm Dr and armpit hair guy are all very nice.

Ive had a couple of things that have come up since my last medical in 04 which I passed.Does the Dr at the medical go through your medical history in detail and ask you about each of the relevant points there on the day?

He/she will go through you medical form and may ask you questions on parts of it e.g. if you are taking medication, he/she could ask how severe you suffer from the problem.

As jclegs has said , the nurse will first go through the questionnaire with you and matters she considers relevant for the Dr. she will highlight and they ( the Dr. ) may ask further questions about it .

I done my other interview today and feel m,uch more relaxed. Will prob still wait to get my BP taken again either tomorrow or Monday. Do not want to leave it too late tbh.

It was just over two weeks from the date of the medical to me receiving the letter, though the doc told me on the day I'd passed, it's still nice to have the piece of paper that tells you so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭1986j

Ha I got the "no concerns" on everything bar the BP.

Sorry to bore you all but I got my BP taken half an hour ago. Was still anxious/nervous but the drop was dramtic. Not perfect 120/80 but not too shabby. Eased my nerves.

Dr said to call in tomorrow and Monday he will take 2 more readings and then send the letter. I am trying my best not to think about it lol

Off work today so I will nip into town and rela and try to get an early night.

lucky for some. i sent my vetting off at the start of june and havent heard a thing about a medical.

Hey im new to this, but iv been following it throughout the whole campaign. Just a quick couple of questions, people who recieve a medical date, does that mean we have been cleared of the vetting? I got into a bit of trouble with the law the past couple of years, yet iv recieved a medical date. And question number 2, do we have to complete a physical exam at the medical, if so what is it based on? Ohhh nearly forgot what do we wear to the medical?? :O

    Any replies welcome thanks :D:D

Medical is independent of vetting i.e. being invited to medical is nothing to do with vetting , many if not most people do the medical before vetting is cleared.

Physical exam is weight , height , etc. They also check your flexibility of knees , arms, legs , etc. They then check hearing ,eyesight, urine, etc. Pretty much what you'd expect from a pre-employment medical.

Wear whatever you want - no dress code and just like the IST.

No. You don't get any letters telling you that you've cleared vetting. You do get one if you don't clear.

    Just back in from Dr's.

He took my BP over a few days and today gave me a certificate to send off saying I am fully fit and thus will hopefully pass medical now. So relieved. It is now out of my hands.

    I do have another question.

During the medical it asked you to disclose tablets/medication you have been taking. I put down things like Co-codamol, Ibuprofen, Covonia etc

However. It occurred to me that some of my pre workout supplements (Mainly caffine based and NO2 based products) may have needed to be disclosed. They totally slipped my mind and now I am panicing. These supps are 100% legal and can be bought in Holland and Barratt etc

Should I contact OHW and disclose this? This was a genuine mistake.
I still have the packages and should anything emerge from this is there an appeals process?

    Advice please.

Just my opinion of course but I really cannot see those supplements being an issue - they are not medications .

There is an appeals process but I don't see that coming into play here.

When is asks for medication, it's asking for prescription medication, not over-the-counter items. All that gym rat stuff is fine.

Strange. I put down over the counter stuff as advised to by the armpit hair guy.

I also work in a chemist and am surprised as many things can be bought over the counter are very dangerous especially when taken together.

    Meh.

Yeah, but it's only the prescription stuff that they'll be looking at.

Can I confirm that this means they only do medicals 2 days a week ?

    According to her delancey yes.

I asked where they doing many. She said they do around 16. This was confirmed by the armpit guy.

She then said that they only did medicals 2 days a week. Whether this is true or not.

Also, she said that a girl who was in the same campaign as her was called for a medical only a few weeks ago. Perhaps all those attending medicals are not simply from C16

Also at my medical I seen about 3-4 others in the waiting area from the moment I arrived. I was there mybe 90mins.

I was mid morning and the armpit guy said he had 3 more after me before lunch when I asked was he off for lunch after doing me.

So the numbers seem to add up.
