Takeshi 6ix 9ine and 4 of his crew members have been arrested on federal charges of gangbanging and drug and gun crimes. Looks like he is facing 25 to life as a consequence.

I've been trying to unravel this.
He went on the radio last week saying he fired his team and dropped all the people around him.
Then him and all the people are arrested. I reckon the Feds seen this as a window to roll him.

Rumour has it that they want 69 to be a CI as he is not any charges against him, they are RICO charges against the Bloods that he rolls with and he is charged by proxy or something like that.

I saw that interview on the breakfast club, maybe you're right. Ebro released a video also saying that 69 had been warned it was coming and continued to ignore it. Mentioned that some PD had sent them in a letter to let them know the people around 69 should have protected him and dissassociated his name from the crimes and drugs, perhaps why he got rid of his crew. Might have been a last act to get away from it if he had gotten wind that the feds were looking into him.

yeah, seen that letter being read out by Ebro, there is another interview with Fat Joe a while ago where Joe lays it out for him and tells him to get out.

    Here it is

Joe has also been on Instalive since talking about it

Someone on Reddit broke it all down..

    What happened?

69 brought in on Saturday for his own safety due to feds uncovering info about a possible attempt on his life by disgruntled former crew that he fired last week, possibly including some of those he was charged alongside.

He refused protection and signed a waiver. After discovering he was planning a casino trip, feds arrested him the next day as they feared for the safety of people there.

Charged with 17 counts of racketeering (RICO). This is organized crime - think large scale drug/gun distribution, kidnapping, trafficking etc. RICO laws were created to combat the mafia/mob, if that gives context.

The Bloods were in 2016 designated as a criminal organization, meaning all members can be charged under the RICO act. Nine Trey (Treyway) are a Bloods gang, and the charges all involve Nine Trey members, including 69.

The most significant charges are violent crime with a firearm and distribution of drugs including fentantyl, MDMA, and so on. All charges are committed as part of a criminal enterprise.

Now what you want to know - how bad does it look for him?

The three things that consistently put rich people away are money laundering, tax evasion and racketeering.

Racketeering has a 93% conviction rate. As I said before, it was introduced to combat rich criminal gangs such as the mafia, so expensive lawyers can't necessarily help.

Feds don't bring these cases until they have a mountain of evidence. The investigation is from 2013 to present and was conducted jointly by the ATF, FBI, Dept for Homeland Security and more. It's almost a certainty that he will be convicted if and when it goes to trial and his lawyers won't be able to do a thing to fight that. Note: it has also been brought as federal charges rather than state, which is usually harsher on the defendant.

One of the counts - discharging a firearm in aid of a violent crime - would see him locked up for a minimum of 25 years if convicted. Another carries a minimum sentence of 7 years, and several have maximum sentences of life in prison.

As there are alleged activities in November 2018, this would mean a violation of his probation. He would therefore have to register as a child sex offender among other things, and it would strongly go against him in court.

The only way to reduce the sentences below the mandatory minimums is either by becoming a confidential informant, or a plea deal, which would either involve 69 giving information on others involved in the enterprise snitching or admitting to one or more counts in exchange for the others being thrown out or reduced. This is where his lawyers can try to work their magic. It's unlikely they would let him off both the 25 and 7 year charges, though.

Even so, on this many counts he would still go to prison for several years at least. He would also be a convicted child sex offender while inside, and possibly a snitch.

He has been denied bail despite offering to pay $1.7m (supposedly his entire bank account) and surrender his passport. This isn't unheard of with a case like this, because rich people faced with the prospect of life in prison may be inclined to go on the run, and may bring harm to those responsible. He has another bail hearing tomorrow, but it's unlikely he'll be granted anything.

The trial will likely take months, during which time he will be in police custody/escort 24/7. Without a plea deal, he will go to prison for decades, most likely life.

    TLDR: He is fooked.

He's also apparently in Gen Pop in one of the toughest jails in America.

I'm sure there are people there that would love to take a shot at him....also, the other charge of being a sex offender of a minor wont go down well with some people.

I'd hope it didn't come to that, but I'd fear for him....I think there is an album drop as well this week

Yeah I've read he's in general population too, and feel the exact same way, child sex offenders don't get off easily in jail, pretty sure they're seen as the lowest of the low in there and understandably so.

I would be amazed if he survived in prison tbh. I said a few weeks back to my partner that I'd be very surprised if he's still alive in 6 months time, which is really **** thing to have to say about a 22 year old. But you reap what you sow..

^^Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Enjoyed this little piece of hip hop history. Serch helping Nas sign his first record deal, including Lyor Cohen passing on Nas because he sounded to much like KGR.

Just reading more stuff about 69

    - Stolen goods (backpack) and gun found in his place

    - He sat in a car and video'd his mates robbing a rival gang member, not sure if the backpack and gun are the same ones from that crime, but the way the article was written, it's a 2 + 2 situation.
    - He was caught on CCTV bragging about orchestrating the robbery

I bet having tat's all over your face and rainbow hair was probably a bad idea as he is easily identified :)

EDIT: Also denied parole which is a bad bad sign. His hearing was supposed to be yesterday but has been bumped, probably another bad sign as there is more evidence being gathered

Am I hearing correct that he was filmed by TMZ putting a 30k bounty on someone?
If he done that he is f*cked.

I also hear that he has been moved to a different facility where they keep the snitches :)

Listening to the CreedII soundtrack, there's some lovely music on it, not fully hip hop, but sounds really good.
I've been digging the Anderson .Paak album as well, strictly not hip hop either, but an excellent listen.
Have Big KRITS Thrice to listen to next.

Liking a lot of Paak's stuff, having first heard him on Tiny Desk. Apparently he has a song out atm which he did in remembrance of Mac which is a nice touch.

Speaking of Mac, Thundercat recently had his image tattooed on his arm. He also retweeted an Ariana Grande tweet and said shut the f*ck up. Retweeted by a lot of hip hop artists. Seems like a lot of people trying to remember him and cope with his death.

Mac's best friend Q also retweeted that tweet. His close friends retweeting it says a lot I think. And I completely agree with both.

Annoyed the heart and soul outta me all the headlines calling him "Ariana Grande's Ex" when he unfortunately passed. So disrespectful.

Thundercat and Mac became close in the last few months I believe, there were a couple of collaborations on his last album, and Thundercat was at the last TinyDesk with Mac. They had a great chemistry between them.

Anderson .Paak's album Malibu is excellent, his appearances on Dre's Compton album were pretty cool as well.

Thundercat was going on tour with him too. Forever sad I’ll never get to see him live, it would have been an experience for sure.

Gave the first 7 or 8 songs of that JID album a listen, good first impression of it, cool flow and nice beats as well.

Really digging that Anderson Paak album too, so easy to listen to him and some good features on it too.

earl sweatshirt , only one listen so far but its sounding pretty special , some nice soul samples in there

  • New Ice Cube, great production

Going to listen to the new Cube in a bit.

I've listened to the new Black Though EP and I dig it, production is much better compared to Vol 1.
Also tried to listen to the new Meek Mill album because of rave reviews, but it's awful sounding. Couldn't get into it at all.
Rob Sonic released a new album called Defriender the other day as well, I'm not that fussed about it, I have to give it another listen but was a bit disappointed with it.

    New EARL is great though.

New Cube song is OK, it's all about the music, and that's just a remastered version of an old Funkadelic song I think.

Listening to that JID DiCaprio 2 album at the moment, it's rather good so far.

New Ice Cube song I've heard are brutal. It's like he's pulling random things out of a hat and rapping about them, badly.

How is Mac Miller's Swimming not on that list?

It's in the top 3 albums of the year for me along with Daytona and Redemption.

With the caveat that I haven't given more than a cursory glance at Astroworld or Earl Sweatshirt, which a lot of people seem to rate.

Was wondering that myself as it's a masterpiece in my eyes. Though I guess theres a case it might not be considered "rap" maybe?

Maybe so, but I'd find it hard to consider it anything but a rap album. There is more singing of hooks or choruses but pretty much every verse is rapped rather than sung.

I know a lot of people only came to him due to his death, and I'm probably one of them (though more because of his tiny desk than his death) but despite that it is a true masterpiece of an album for me and one of my favourite albums of all time if I'm honest.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

I think there are a few things about Swimming. People will be afraid to put it on end of year lists because of what happened. It's also not a hip or edgy album, he doesn't dye his hair pink.....the album itself is more a culmination of everything he has done so far and channeled into one body of work, so people who have followed his career would lean way more towards it.
I don't know if it should be on the end of year lists as it's way more of a personal album than a commercial album.

Does any of that make sense!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭VW 1

I can see the arguments against it.

As a standalone it may just sound like a nice album to someone who hasn't followed him, dug into his past or followed his development.

At the same time, it is such a complete album in terms of theme, arc and storyline. The music and production is beautiful and I can listen to it over and over without ever skipping a song.

But yeah, I can see why it might be seen as a "nice" album to listen to without any real commercial singles if you didn't do any digging any deeper on meanings or themes.

    EDIT:

Just to add - I totally agree with you on it being a culmination of everything he had done so far.

I mean it addresses the addiction and depression, fear and anxiety that made his Faces and Watching Movies albums so dark and intriguing, yet he has packaged it in a totally different manner, with easy listening beats and it just seems so much more developed and mature. He really sounds comfortable with what he is doing and who he is, as opposed to someone who is searching for where he fits in (musically) like we see him developing over those albums (plus Macadelic).

The saddest part of it all for me is that we won't get to see the results of that development culminate in further projects to see where he could have gone with it all.

That said, the rumours about him having pretty much completed his next project (Circles) are hopefully true, and I'm hoping we will get to hear it sooner rather than later if his family choose to release it, which from what I have read and heard was his wish prior to his death.

I've that luxury as well, plus I have an hour commute each way. When I'm running I throw something on, and if I'm in the laptop at home I'd normally have something rocking.
There is also always something playing on the bluetooth speakers around the house as well, that's not normally new stuff though, has to be child friendly :)

Child friendly can be tough, nearly everything has an explicit warning on it. I just tell the young lad we can't repeat the bold words :pac: its worked so far but he is only 5..

Pitchfork gave Mac Millers first album 1/10. They warmed to him a bit later but they were never that gone on him so putting him in best albums of the year would probably be a little out of character.

Just keeping up with singles on blogs/tumblr is a lot. A lot of them do best tracks of the month lists so I've listened to hundreds of tracks this year but feck all full lengths.
