I cant think of any other cases like this in ireland in a long time. I had tears in my eyes reading the reports it was so shocking.

Why cant we have a referendum on the death penalty, a 3 strikes law or proper serious hard time in jail for criminals.

Time has changes the nation, put it to the people again.
Every week we hear of some criminal getting a soft sentence for crime, i for one am sick and tired of it, and i doubt i am the only one.

Use some of our tax money to erect wooden huts on a island of the west coast, abandon the prisoners there to serve time.

This horrific event has really shocked me to the core, we are well used to murders in this country but most times its gang related and most of us are desensitized to those particular crimes (scum killing scum).

A 14 year old child beaten to death and possibly raped previous to that. It takes a special type of psycopath to be able to beat someone to death and just leave them there.

This is one of the worst crimes commited in the history of the state.

It's certainly differant than the usual murders,if you can call them that, which we hear of. This is differant and as bad as it gets.

This is a terrible tragedy and her parents must be going through hell right now. May the poor girl rest in peace and her killer(s) spend rest of time behind bars.

The childs death has caused extreme distress and sorrow to her family and friends. They are are devastated.

It's tragic.

Independent are reporting that a 13 year old boy is the suspect, which is confirming what has been heard by locals in Lucan (or at least 2 that I spoke to earlier today).

Absolutely grim that one child could do this to another. Has there ever been such a case in this country before? If the culprit is someone of that age (13/14) - what usually happens? Is there a precedent? Genuine questions as I've no idea how this could play out.

So very sorry shocked and stunned to hear this awful horrible news. The poor child got an awful death. She must have went through agony and been absolutely terrified. I have a son of 13 and it's my worst nightmare that anything should happen to him. Her parents and brother must be absolutely heartbroken. I hope whoever killed Ana is found and when they are they should never again see the outside of a prison cell.

Undoubtedly one of the most horrendous murders in the history of the state.

There will be serious consequences for who did this from this murder either way but if the suspected perpetrator is part of the "new Irish" expect another level of reaction. This type of horror is what gets people really worried.

*If thats the case then we could be on uncharted waters. I cannot think of similar anyway. My own opinion is if one human can do such a thing to another they should spend a lifetime in confinement in the interests of justice and public safety without a seconds thought. They are likely beyond redemption.

But sadly, whoever did this is unlikely to face any serious punishment. Certainly nothing that remotely fits the heinous nature of their crime!

Innocent people die all the time. Unfortunate fact of life...

But that still doesn't alter the fact that guilty people, who commit disgusting crimes, need to be punished. And punishment needs to match the crime!
