My boyfriend just informed me that his boss and his girlfriend are off to Tenerife until Thursday, and they plan to rock back into work the following Monday no screening no testing no nothing. People seem to be categorise where is “safe” to travel to based on the amount of positive cases there; completely forgetting the important fact that in order to get there you’ve to travel through an airport likely riddled with the infection and travel on a plane that’s been god knows where before you. My boyfriend is worried because his mother has not only cardiovascular disease but high BP and diabetes, she’s basically a right off if she gets this disease. He’s now thinking of taking the two weeks off when they return because of their moronic and selfish behaviour.

Thats pretty crappy. I have had someone come into work sick 2 weeks in a row and book meetings. I didnt realise they were sick until i got into the room with them. They are more senior so it sucks. Also to add to the fun a colleague is just back from Italy and another has family over from a certain middle/far eastern country that is an out of control epicenter and they have been coughing their lungs up all week - 2 weeks ago. I got a sore throat (the tiniest sore throat but enough of an excuse) last week and took the entire week off just in case. Feck sake. Oh and to add to all of that...as I was walking out of a large meeting room through double doors another colleague was walking in with their face in some pieces of paper and they turned their head to the side and coughed directly in my face as I passed by.

With all this carry on I believe my workplace would have zero chance if the virus got in.

    According to the Irish times
“Here, the criteria for people requiring testing has been updated by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), to the effect that anyone with a new fever of 38 degrees or more, or chills and/or respiratory tract infections including cough will require testing.”

My wife has all of these symptoms and we are in Clare. Does anyone know the number we’re supposed to call to get a test?

See, I always knew New Zealand would be the place to be in a real life zombie outbreak, though a pandemic will do.

Orrr you could just keep them inside and explain to them that it’s right for them to be out right now. Throw on some Netflix or get them to help around the house, or if they’re older get them on their school work. You know there is a happy medium between sedating them and letting them roam feral throughout the estate?

True effort should be made alright.
I’m gona guess using words like feral to describe kids running about means you don’t have any?

We are an Island, we should be using this to our advantage.. Close the airports, no flights in or out for the foreseeable future...Send the army up to the Northern border and stop the flow of people to and from the north... Tough love but that is what it will take to keep us safe..

Good time to start a war. Leave it a week more, most of the Brits will have calved anyway by then.

    Good luck with that.

Irish people are a bunch of self centred morons contrary to the "everyone loves the Irish" brigade.

I'd like to think most of us ARE responsible though, it's the tiny minority of morons that wreck things for everyone, as always.

A bit despondent tonight. We are only one day into this lockdown and it seems there is a rebellious reaction to Government advice. Cheek by jowl in the supermarkets, kids out playing and so on.

IT IS NOT A HOLIDAY. Italy made that mistake and look where they are now.

    Fekkit and Fed UP.

Haha that's my local costco. Luckily I got all my stuff from there weeks ago

Was out earlier and had a drive through the car park of the casino opposite the costco just to see if people were still going, it's as full as ever. People care more about mindlessly stocking up than actually doing something to stop the spread.

Is Medex hand sanitiser any good, picked that up at one of the Euro shops I also have some I bought from a pharmacy for 5.90, pretty much price gouging there.

I am not sure which Medex formulation you picked up. Check the ingredients section: Check the percentage next to Ethanol/Alcohol. If the number is 60 or higher, you are in business. If the number is lower than 60, then it is ineffective, and it is best to buy one with a higher ethanol/alcohol content.

Remember good old soap and water will do fine, if you cannot buy hand sanitiser!

And to reiterate, good technique is as important as the product. YouTube WHO Clean Hands (I cannot seem to add the link to my post)

Jesus Christ. We're no more selfish than anyone else. Why the self-loathing?

Because we have zero responsibility and always blame someone else for our challenges.

It was a vital piece of the jigsaw. Getting the private sector involved will speed up testing, and make it available to the whole country. And this is USA, Not Ireland.

Yeah at first glance it seems like a reasonable proposition, the big corps get free advertising and product placement with the Pres, and the citizens get covid testing mcdonaldfied...in all senses. Don't see how it is outrageous or insulting or whatever. But meh whatever.

Chinese people acted like selfish asses in China weeks ago and people who pointed this out were accused of racism.

The messy old Italians cleaned out their supermarkets in a panic and yesterday the Irish did it today the Yanks are doing it.

Let's call out bad behaviour wherever we see it and stop all the PC bull.

We need to flatten the curve!

A good site with a great graphic showing how early aggressive action (yellow line) will affect the outcomes.

Also how mild and moderate interventions are less successful and the huge difference in early v late interventions.

The figures are for America, but the lessons are broadly applicable to any country.

Ireland seems to have a large proportion of idiots. The aul blaise attitude of 'sure tis grand' is all too common.

Thousands of people have died, Ireland are not immune to this type of threat.

The "hero" attitude they have threatens the nation.

But it actually will be grand.

Last Friday at the update Holohan told us there’ll be no update over the weekend with next update being the Monday.

I don’t recall him saying that this evening. Does anyone know will we get an update tomorrow evening?

Very concerned for UK approach and the fact it differs from ours , rest of Europe and rest of world. It assumes no permanent damage and 47 million people getting it. Bothering me all day. Felt better when government took approach of closing schools but this is deeply disturbing.

People knock Trump no matter what he does, I just knock him when deserved. Today he done something incredible, and his team is pretty remarkable. He has put together the most elite force since Chuck Norris put together the Delta Force .

Now that you are back on your feet, just thought I would mention that you can catch it from semen too.
