Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No we're not. People are just dramatising.

    What "noticable tranistion" is happening?

Why do people always say "it's not as bad as other countries"? What relevance has that? One senseless killing is a senseless killing too many, why do people try to justify it because we have a lower crime/murder rate than other countries.

I remember reading one year that Dublin was the gun murder capital of Europe. More people were murdered by gun crime that any other city in Europe...and they weren't talking about per capita. Crazy for a small city.
    London has mostly knife crime.

So where the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed over 80 people not "gun crime"?
Here's an article from the UK showing the unsafest cities in Europe. Belfast makes the list.

There was a lot more gun murders in Dublin and indeed the whole of Ireland ten years ago than there is nowadays.

The murders seem to be just more sensationalized now.

I was pointing out to those hyperbole types that its not as bad as they think or are trying to make it out to be, thats all. Nobody justified it.

Each recent thread. Ana/Jastine/Cameron has had people talking about how we have a low crime/murder rate. So yes, it can come across as people saying that the death of the innocent person doesn't matter as much because our murder rate is 'low'.

And those comments where most likely in response to some sensationalist posters hyperbole.

Fine, if your happy with a shoddy legal system, poor health system, a brutal housing market, an under resourced and badly mismanaged police force and insurance cartels by all means it might be a utopia for you. It isn't for many.

Sure, but on the other hand if society is in a state of change from good to bad, that's obviously a concern, no? The murder rate in Ireland is indeed low - and most of us would like it to stay that way, which is why any anomalous period of violence in society is concerning as a trend.

It's only anomalous if you take it out of context. The murder rate per day here is less than one. So any day in which there is a murder is above average. To get a few murders in a few weeks doesn't indicate a worrying trend if the only sample you use is those weeks.

The fact is that the occurrences of murders does not follow a regular distribution patterns. If we average one a week then we would have two some weeks and zero others. The arrival pattern for these events is irregular in the short term but in the long term shows a pattern. In fact it's to be expected that we will see short term increases and decreases.

One lad apparently shot three times in his leg. Must've been a machine gun used?

Helicopter is circling the Dun Laoghaire area, it must be doing the laps from bray and all around the wider areas.

Does anyone know if pete taylors injuries are life threatening or not, conflicting reports from different news lets regarding his current condition.

That's some post , from a discussion about a shooting barely investigated you manage to drag the HSE , housing , Gardai and insurance into.

Your post is the equivalent of a madman's ****e , all over the place.

Ha it's so easy to just pick a few negative things and then say the whole country is a shambles whilst ignoring the many positives.

it would be like that article a short while ago that used data from a few weeks in london to "prove" that it had a higher murder rate than new york. People generally have a very poor understanding of statistics and there are plenty of journalists happy to take advantage of that to create sensational headlines.

Either related to the Hutch kinahan feud or traveller feud, your guess is as good as mine at this stage.

Most likely Hutch kinahan, didn't the hutches use vans like that in a previous high profiled attack.

Someone mentioned a name on journal.ie regarding the deceased, name doesn't ring any bells regarding organized crime.

I have to say the sooner that gang falls on its own sword the better.

I think they are both currently slipping on their own swords, The Hutches probably closer to the blade than the kinahans though.

Another Hutch hit (obvious by the fact the target wasn’t the one who was killed).

    I don't get it - what high-profile attack?

What do you mean by saying the Hutch gang have missed their intended targets before? Any specific incidents?

I'm guessing he resembled pete a little bit thats why they shot him straight away, before noticing they got the wrong fella then shot at pete.

    Just a theory.

The incidents in the past few weeks here have to be seriously concerning.

The Philippines student killed in Dublin.

Another young girl killed and left in a farmhouse.

18 year old murdered in Meath.

    The boxing club shootings.

If this was happening in any other country, you wouldn't go near it.

3 places in Ireland to avoid and you should be alright. Limerick Bray and north inner city Dublin

So let me get this straight.

-Boxing Gym in Bray has been training members of MTK boxing agency for free
-MTK apparently has links with the Kinahan cartel
-It was an MTK event in the Regency when there was the shooting at the weigh-in a couple of years back
-An associated of the Kinahan cartel was shot and killed during that shooting
-Now there is a shooting in the Gym in Bray.

Think it's safe to say it's gang related.
I know it sounds harsh but the article linked earlier shows Peter Taylor didn't care about the risk involved, saying he'll train who he wants to. He surely must have been aware of previous incidents and the risks involved. I feel worse for Katie.

As a boxing fan I absolutely hate the association with gangs that it seems to have.
