Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cancelled TV a few weeks back on the old variety package, got offered the new equivalent for €56 but wanted closer to new customer offer of tv & broadband for €55. Broadband is out of contract in a few weeks so will be on again for the same conversations.

Got offered the same as last year in “my sky” yesterday of 35% off tv which I will take & look to get broadband off them for around €30 which is what your man let slip is what they match from competitors.

Rang to cancel my broadband & did so without any offer which I found strange. But got offered the new signature package for €49 a month from Feb & less for Jan for some reason. This is about a €9 saving from the variety offer I would’ve taken up so happy with that as get on demand & box sets instead of kids channels.

Just cancelled there on the 1800927476 number which got me through straight away surprisingly. Was paying 32 a month for basic package, he offered an upgrade to all the Discovery/History/Eurosport etc channels for 24 a month, refused that and he offered my current package at 19 a month and I refused that. Going to get a satellite box in the coming days and be ready to set up when Sky switches off on Jan 10th.

Which box are you looking at? I've cancelled too and wouldn't mind a back up if the Broadband ever drops. Is it possible to receive Saorview via Satellite at this stage does anyone know.

    Hi

You can receive saorview via satellite however it is a different satellite to sky.

An aerial at your TV might be enough for saorview or u could mount an aerial on the sky bracket outside and combine the signal on one of your sky satellite cables

If you're handy at DIY, this is an easy enough task.

In terms of a satellite box, I would suggest you look at the 4k Freesat box on Amazon. As the Freesat boxes update and rescan overnight so you never have to update it manually.

Freesat is not an official platform here so amazon won't ship it here and there's no parcel motel or similar workarounds anymore. You can get it from richersounds or one of the Irish satellite TV specialists.

Addresspal from An Post is still running. I've gotten stuff from this site https://www.freetv.ie/freesat-4k-box/ and never a bother.

That's a brilliant deal I'd be delighted with that.

Gone from Sky for a few months and browsing the net for the best price they're offering to come back. It's amazing to see the deals offered in the UK vs. here. People in the UK getting full TV package (Sky Q, Netflix premium, UHD, sports, movies, multiple mini boxes) on 12-18 month contracts for about €60-65. Looks like the best you can get on that kind of package here is €90+.

So long as people are prepared to pay that type of money (and more) Sky is going to charge it and also increase it annually.

How have people found switching to Sky? All the media companies have awful customer service who promise the world on signing up but then you can't get through to them - it's a real issue..... I'm with Eir 1Gb FTTH and looking to switch to Sky 1GB FTTH and as WFH can't have any downtime in service.

I've read bits and pieces about delays with routers being sent etc which means that on the switch date that the new company set you can't even start using the service.

I switched to sky in the summer and there’s been zero issues at all. Router was sent out before the install which happened quite quickly anyway

I WFH and again no issues with their service since (I had some issues with Virgin which prompted the move)

Was on std package plus HD plus Sports for €92 a month, VIP platinum and have discounts previously bringing it down to about €64 but that discount ran out about 6 months ago.

Called yesterday to cancel, didn’t make much of an effort to keep me, didn’t have to be put through to the cancellation desk either. Offered me €75 but I declined. Now on my 31 day cancellation period, no sign of any offer yet to keep me, usually get a 35% off, hopefully they come back with something.

Preference would be to upgrade to sky q with a discounted package, anyone got a good deal recently?

Wait until you are actually cut off and ring in again. You are then classed as a returning customer which should generate a better offer.

And any idea what the discount is for a returning customer?

Ring the day after you are cut off.

I had experience of this a few years back. Rang on the day I was due to be cut off but 20% off was the best offer. Called the next day and the agent told me I was a "returning customer" and I would get better offer which I did. Think it was 40% off at the time. Another family member had the same experience.

As I said thats a while ago and could be different now although Id doubt it. Let us know how you get on.

What was the monthly cost prior to cancellation?

Monthly fee for Sky Q plus minbox plus movies plus sport plus HD went to €113 a month starting in Feb 2021. Up from €88 a month. Rang today and they would drop to €98 as best the6 could do.... so in effect €10 increase on current payment

No good to me..... so after 20 years I cancelled Sport, Movies and HD to come back to €54 a month. Will be strange to lose all that But will get used to it.

Have other ‘options’ on Sport and have gone 100% over to Netflix so movies won’t be missed too much. Told lady on phone I would pay the €88 but no budge.

Interested to see if they will come back to me within 31 days to get me back on Sports and Movies.....

I guess it’s all about the bluff!!!

No they won't, they'll only haggle if you threaten to leave. €98 for that package was a good deal in fairness. Do you think Q+ minibox is much better than the old Sky+ 2 box setup? I'm considering upgrading to SkyQ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,501 ✭✭✭Masala

The Sky Q is definitely worth it...... especially with the mini box.

As for the €98...... I don’t see it as value for money. My last premiership matches I wanted to watch were on Amazon Prime. The others are on BT Sports tgat I don’t have.

The last Blockbuster movie I-saw was..... well I can’t remember one.

I guess I will wait to see what they come back to me on........

Interested to hear your opinion on what was so good about sky q over sky +........especially with the mini box. I don’t really need the mini, so is there something I would loose out on by not having it?
I’m hoping to negotiate an upgrade as part of my cancellation

    Cheers!

got offered a free upgrade to SkyQ (from the HD box) if I added movies for €10 a month so that's being installed this week. No contract on the Movies so I can cancel those anytime (IMO €10 is about right for Movies, it's not worth the full price).

Is anything on Sky worth full price?

Sky would prefer everyone to have Sky Q.
You don't own the equipment so if you leave Sky, you will have to return the boxes to them.
This means unless you have an old Sky box and it's wired up correctly, you won't be able to watch anything.
People leaving Sky with the old Sky boxes can at least watch FTA channels on it without doing anything special to the box/connection.
Most people won't cancel Sky without having some alternative to watch.

What has the U.K. got to do with it? This is Sky Ireland we're talking about on an Irish based forum. Dial down the faux outrage, thanks.

Being charged twice the price for the same service is not a good deal and it is an outrage. It's time people here stopped paying these extortionate prices.

It's all to do with the population and competition.
Way smaller population here with little competition means they can charge what the market will pay.
Until people leave in numbers, and that won't happen until they have a decent alternative, Sky will continue to charge way more this side of the Irish Sea.
Nothing else we can do nowadays unfortunately.

If you are going to go to SKY Q from HD box, make sure they fitter installs a Hybrid LNB so you can use the HD box if you ever get rid of Sky Q.

apparently they're no longer installing the hybrids, but I'll find out this week as I'll be asking for one ( I have an old HD box in the other room which I occasionally use for FTA football).

Just for info purposes for others on here, I cancelled Sky and was paying 32 a month for the basic package. Loyalty team rang me and offered 25 a month with extra channels (Discovery, Nat Geo, etc), refused that and they offered the same for 20 a month. Refused that too so I am now bill free, just have to get the Irish channels set up on a new box I have but am glad to be free of Sky.

So for anyone paying 32 a month for the basic channels you can get that down to 20 easily enough on a new 12 month contract.

if they fit a dish for you, changing the lnb yourself is not that big a deal. when my neighbour got theirs hooked up they' tipped' the guy 20 to put in the hybrid lnb.

Sky won't but ask the fitter if he has one and get him to fit it when installing or buy one on Ebay and install it yourself.
