Snap, even though I've nearly 20 years on you. Last year I got the same basic RSA policy for €189; the €30 hike is since they joined up with Cornmarket to offer their customers even better value.

I didnt bother ringing principle or quinn insurance because they would not have beating that quote. Adelaide dont do breakdown cover for bikes over 15 years old so fingers crossed I dont break down.

Its €40 with Adelaide, €99 for the year seems steep to me.

But as mentioned above adelaide won't cover a 15 year old bike with breakdown.

A also covers any bike your driving or a car your are driving even if it's not yours. You get the AA cover essentially, not a specific vehicle

Having tried & used Adelaide breakdown services, I'll stick with the AA

€50 for motorcycle recovery services on average, 2 x call-outs per annum for older bikes would be reasonable.

I used AA coming back from Faro last year when I got a back tyre blow out & they were fantastic, got the bike to a dealer in France on a Monday & put me in a hotel for the night.

€99 well spent IMHO Wonda ;)

Renewed the insurance last week with Adelaide or cornmarket as they're known now.
Full ncd, 35yr old male, 09 er6, breakdown and legal cover = €289
Think that's the cheapest I've ever paid for any category of motor insurance over the last 17 years.

Male, 36, 0 years NCB, full license since a month ago.

2 bikes, 2011 Yamaha XJ6S diversion and 2014 BMW R1200GSTE. All quotes fully comp.

Liberty (who I'm with) don't do multi bike, wanted another 705.75 to cover just the GS. Shove it up your hoop, lads.

Carole Nash wanted 1658.21 standard excess, then came back with 1206.83 with 650 quid excess on the bmw and 325 on the yamaha. With legal and breakdown (which I theoretically get from the dealer on the bmw anyway).

Adelaide, 880.20 with 500/250 excess, no breakdown or legal. Took the risk and went with this, if I spend less than 300 quid on recoveries for the diversion in the next year I'll be doing ok.

    Sex : Male
    Age: 27
    License: Full A
    NCB: 4
    Bike: 04 BMW R1200 GS

    TPFT quotes with bonus protection:
    CN : €450 (initially quoted €567) - excess €300
    Adelaide : €415 - excess €250

    Full Comp with bonus protection:
    CN : €650 (initially quoted €752)
    Principal : €390 - excess €350

All quotes included legal protection, breakdown, carrying a pillion and driving other bikes. Adelaide didn't offer homestart nor did they offer me a quote for fully comp. Both Carole Nash and Principal offered 2 claims without affecting my bonus and step back with a 3rd claim. Hope I won't be needing it but handy to have.

The agent at Principal (Shannon? Or maybe Sharon?) said she'd call me back in 10mins after I'd given her all the details. This was at about 4.55pm, and having worked in insurance a few years back I figured she'd got a massive price, was clocking off at 5pm and wasn't bothered dealing with me. Fair play to her though, I paid €390 last year with Adelaide for TPFT and I'm happy to pay that for fully comp with bonus protection. Won't be for everyone but give them a try.

Still have to ring back Adelaide, but seems like a no-brainer. Anyone have experience with Principal? Any down-sides?

    principals excess is usually higher.
    Adelaide's price seems very high.
I have 4 bikes insured with them for only €18 more than that.

Thats a crazy price. I'm only paying Adelaide just over 200 for fully comp with protected ncb, breakdown etc.... And im on a blackbird.

Maybe the area you live in is a higher risk and pushing up the price.

Well, after two attempts to get in contact with Adelaide (and them not returning my calls), I went with Principal (on the last day before my renewal). It is a slightly higher excess, but I'm saving almost that much on the annual insurance premium alone.

Furthermore, I'm considering upgrading to a VFR12 at the moment. Adelaide were quoting me around €550 per annum, while Principal's quote was just €70 on top of my existing quote (€352 total). Dunno why there's a big difference in premiums. Ever year I've had to haggle with Adelaide, which annoys me greatly. If they'd just given me competitive pricing, I'd still be a customer.

    Third Party Only:
    Liberty ( Renewal ) - €322.40
    MCE - €1059.54
    Carole Nash - €711.22
Adelaide - Refuse to quote as under 25yr old.
Principal - Refuse to quote as will only insure over 21/22 with a few years NCB.

Happy enough with my renewal with liberty at €322.40 as it was €750.62 last year.

I went with MCE but I didn't know about the 20 mile limit, she might have told me on the phone but it was an English call centre and she was talking at a 100MPH.. getting a quote for enhanced recovery service today. There is a 14 day cooling off period so I can cancel with a €39 admin fee.

Turns out adelaide don't cover me for test riding bikes unless the garage has their own insurance. Policy says "permission of the owner, a motorcycle not belonging to him/her", but rang them to make sure and computer says nooooooo.
