Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I attempted to cancel my Sky today, price was going from €50 to €95 a month for TV and Broadband as I had reached the end of my 12 month offer. Told them I was going to get cheaper BB elsewhere and freesat. Was passed onto the cancellation team and immediately offered the 'win back offer', 35% off! I knew it was the best I could get going by this thread so decided to go for it

Did you get 12 months again? about to cancel soon

Am off contract with Sky +. Would like to get SkyQ but wondering if anyone has got a discount and an upgrade to SkyQ at the same time?

I rang to Cancel my €96 a month account. Dropped the hint that was interested in Sky Q. After getting some 50% off deals for 6 months I ended up at €86 for a 2GB Sky Q box + the Mini Box as well. Had to pay €25 installation fee there and then by Debit Card.

I have to set a reminder every 6 months to ring them to haggle the 6 months discount thing again to keep at the €86. (I have Sports, Movies and HD)

On the old variety package with sports, was on 40% this year & rang to go through the dance with them, offered this years full price instead of the €3 increase for 12 months so €79 which I laughed at then two more offers of €77 & €73.80 refused them.

Was told I won’t get the 35% offer & no cancellations department anymore ! I just signed into my account & low & behold a €35% offer waiting for me lol

    Yep, 12 months

Sorry for a stupid question, but at what point should one expect to be contacted by Sky with a better offer?

I asked several times lately for a better price, none was forthcoming so I said to go ahead with the cancellation, he did just that and I got an email confirming the end of my service in 31 days... is it too late now? Is it before or after that point that they offer you a discount to stay with them?

    Thanks.

All you need to know here.

Best offers are once the service is cut off. If you try to cancel they might offer you 20 euro off or something. If you say no they might offer you 35% off the base package. If you say no and it’s actually set to cancel you will have a 35% offer in your app or if you ring up. If you actually let it get cut off and call and hour after it’s gone you will get a Returning customer offer usually 40% off base package. Returning customer offer is from when it’s actually cut off up to 1 year after it’s cut off. I’ve literally rang an hour after it was cut off and got it.

While setting it to Cancel I was offered 35% as stated above. I was specifically told there are no more winback or returning customer offers. That’s what they refer to them as. I laughed at her and said ok set it to cancel.

Rang up an hour after after it was cut off and lord behold 40% off.

They are vermin. If I wasn’t in a house share I wouldn’t bother. I get 40% off and then get to split the remainder of the bill in half so I tolerate them.

I got rid of the movies too as I can stream everything they offer and much more for free. Not worth paying for them anymore. The older sky box I have can only play movies in 1080i while the free streams are actually in 4K and turnout much clearer than the sky box haha.

They will be in serious trouble in a few years when more and more people start voting with their feet.

‘Moral of the story. Hold off let it get cut off. You will get at least what you were offered when it was set to cancel and in my case I have always gotten more as a winback or returning customer.

They will lie through their teeth to you to scare you into taking less of an offer. F*ck them!

Sorry if this has been asked before but my contract is usually up at the start of December and the last few years i've rang in November and got the usual 35% discount on my sky package on my account a couple of weeks before the 30 days cancellation period ends but this year in August i added the sky extra(bt sports and premier sports)to my account. Is my whole sky package now contracted till next August?

Nope your contact ends when it ends. Them channels are only extras. They do not create a new 12 month contract. Once within 31 days of it ending call them and say cancel the lot.

I'm without Sky about 4 weeks (and not missing it). Got a 'win back' and was offered 40% off Entertainment Pack. The Entertainment pack is now (or going to be) €37 (€22 with discount applied)! Plus €8 for HD plus another €8 if you want the kids channels. It's crazy how they keep increasing their prices. It used to be €32 for entertainment INCLUDING kids channels plus €5 for HD
I was going through the numbers with the guy, giving him hassle and he hung up on me! Very happy with that!!

If you took the €20 for 6 months offer, then you were put on a 12 month contract, so yes, you'd be contracted until next August.

If you took the €34 per month option, then you didn't enter a new contract.

AFAIK the 12 month contract is only for the entertainment package. The sports offer can be cancelled at any time.

Yes, that’s correct (with the usual 31 days notice).

Although you wouldn’t be able to request a complete cancellation (and receive subsequent discount offer) until the 12 month period was up.

There's a tab for offers. If you're a current customer it usually has offers on sports or cinema...

When you eventually get 35/40% off will it be off the Sports and Movies as well as the basic package? I know you don't get it off multi-room and HD.
    Thanks

You'll get the discount on what ever your base package is, plus movies & sports if you have them.

I got the extra sports channels when eir lost BT and I thought it said I was into a new 12 month contract from that date.

I'm out of contract few weeks and I gave them one months notice to close.

I received texts offering 35% off but to enter a new 12 month contract.

I'd rather not commit to another 12 month contract.

How did you get through to the cancellation team? Every number I try it just says we are currently busy please try again later! Ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

after cancelling and then getting a call back, I'm paying 19e per month for the basic set of channels, no HD (although BBC and RTE are HD).

    Happy enough with that!

    On sky Q with multiroom / variety / BB & T / HD Boxsets / F1

Was on a reduced amount of €102 rose to €133 after discounts ended.

Called them up and requested cancellation. Spoke to 2 different agents over a week. Most they would decrease by was €110

Second chap kept me on the phone for nearly 3/4 hr. He made me laugh though when he said that streaming services like netflix / amazon / apple will steal my data and that they are not secure.

Finally he said that he would put through my cancellation. He sounded sad and disappointed. He said that he had to transfer me through to accounts so that they could process my final bill.

Was put though to another agent who immediately offered me €97 / month (€55 for the TV bits / €43 for the BB & telephone).

I was happy to leave but they eventually gave me a price that I was willing to pay.

Pretty certain I won't get away with it next year.

Pro-tip: Tell them you don't want any offers, you just want to cancel. The person they transfer you to to actually cancel will usually offer you one offer (35% off seems to be standard) and if you want it - take it, and if not - cancel. I was able to cancel myself and got a discount for my father in law in about 10 minutes.

€22.40 for 12 months for the standard entertainment package.

I had cancelled and service was terminated and I had planned to go freeview/saorview but installer couldn't do it until January, so asked what the best deal was and this is what i got.

Ill be calling tomorrow so will let you know how it goes.

I only want to cancel the TV part the BB is ok.

I am paying about 130 a month for sky sports. Madness. They have no decent sport anymore.

So took a while. Taking to a bot for ages and that's a patience tester.
You have to say your password down the phone. I said mine and it put me through to the usual waiting line. Then the girl who eventually answered asked me for my password. I told her i just told it to the machine and now you're asking for it again.. ..?? She said yes .... i said it ans she says ah it doesn't match!! I told her I dont care. Its deffo my password I'm literally looking at my online account that I logged into using such password. She then asked me if I wanted to change my password. I said why? The one I have works? Anyway do I need this to proceed with this call? No she said. Jesus Christ

Anyway I cut sky sports and kept the basic TV. Bill down to €70. She had it down to €81 and I asked her what more can be done.... she asked her manager and its down to €70.

    Its a big saving.

I think the online password is different to the account password they ask for over the phone!

Yeah there are two passwords. One for your online account and one when you call them. There are other questions they can ask to verify that you are the account holder.

Apart from the PL football, there's not a lot going for Sky these days.
Netflix and Amazon giving them a run for their money.

Could anyone help me with the following?

I cancelled sky last week went through the whole process. TV and broadband was going from €77 a month to €120 so I told them no chance. First got an offer of €103 then after constantly saying no I was given an offer of €90. Still continued to say no to this.

Got a message today to say I've been offered 35% off Sky+ TV for 12 months. Although, when I go to the link I was sent its not showing a price of what it will cost me a month. Its asking me to accept the offer of 35% but won't tell me a price.

Could anyone breakdown the cost for me if possible of what I have got already and what would be included :-

    Sky Q
    Sky entertainment
    Ultimate on demand

    Sky broadband superfast
    Sky talk
    Sky talk freetime

    Thanks in advance!

Best thing to do is call them and advise of the offer you were given. They will then apply it for you and explain the bills. You will have a 14 day cooling off period.

From memory of when I cancelled, it'll be off the base price only, so the sky q and entertainment will be discounted, but not the rest. Definitely not the broadband and phone. As previous poster said, best thing is to ring and check.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,031 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

Yeah it's off the TV only. So say Entertainment with Sports, you'd get 35% off that. Best thing to do if you are taking the offer is take TV only and then call back and see what broadband offers they have going.

  • Registered Users Posts: 558 ✭✭✭Schummi

Does anyone know if discounts are applied to Ultimate On Demand?

Just an FYI, I'm out of contract 4 months and have sent my box back. Best offer is to pay €149 for new box (which you don't own) and 35% off basic package. Basic package price is €40 (not €35 like I see on their own website, and €25 for new customers). Another €8 for HD, more for kids, etc. needless to say I said not a hope.

Called Sky Friday evening to cancel my Sports pack and the BT/Premier pack as my €30 offer was expiring.

Didn't get any offer, no haggling nothing. The agent just went straight to the process of cancelling. I was a bit surprised.

I cancelled 3 weeks ago , TV ,Sports ,Movies , phone and internet.

Agent offered nothing at the time, think he offered something silly like 5% that l said no to and he then just went a head and cancelled the package .

I've received no offers of 35% off to stay .

whats my best way to proceed .

let them switch if off and call back to say before l go with Virgin just wanted to check any offers ?

if its switched off do they then try and charge for the boxes again ?

    thanks

Once your broadband cancels down it may take a while for them to reactivate it. The most I have been offered was 35% off TV.

No harm in giving them a call sometime when you are not busy.
