    Its on their site september 8th opening. If the other spoons are anything to go by ill avoid it for a month or so before I try it, lots of teething problems apparently.

    A few places have extended hours atm, savoy stays open till three now.

    I have been to both the Dun Laoghaire and Blackrock ones (Dublin) and it took at least 3 weeks before the initial excitement died down.

    Here are some photos I took last Sunday of the Cork one (not the best quality sorry):

    Those photos not showing here either, but on touch site.

    Went past it Monday, they were working on exterior with finishing touches of painting and cctv cameras being installed. Looks like they had a lot of the interior stuff inside, but just needed organising. Looks well though. Would assume it'll open next week?

    Looking forward to seeing this place open. Hopefully it will put the skids under some of the cartels around town.

    It probably won't though. The spoons tend to avoid music and tvs and punters will pay more in other places for music and sport. I think they'll be looking to make a killing on food.

    If the Dublin ones (Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire) are anything to go by then it will definitely not be rough as fcuk when it opens.

    Dun laoighre and Blackrock are not in the city centre and could be described as leafy suburbs, so of course the clientele isn't rough.

    As Ludo has pointed out you must not have spent much time in Dun laoghaire, plenty of 'unsavoury' people in that area, especially in an around the train station main street which are both visible from Wetherspoons.

    People assume cheap prices means scumbags/knackers (whatever you want to call them) will not be attracted but it's simply not the case. There are bouncers on the door and like all bars anyone drunk / acting up is not allowed in.

    I am not in Wetherspoons everyday ( I swear ..... hic) but have yet to see any fights or any major trouble. The only incident I saw was in Blackrock where these guys were singing pretty loudly and were asked to quiet down or they would have to leave (they stopped singing and were allowed to stay).

    CORK’S newest pub the Linen Weaver will open on Paul Street next week following a €3.65m investment by the UK pub chain JD Wetherspoons.
    The three storey pub will employ 75 staff when it opens next Tuesday. It covers three floors and is located on the site of the former Newport bar and Mangan’s nightclub.

    It is the first pub developed by Wetherspoons outside of Dublin with another Cork bar planned for Douglas.
    The new pub will be open from 8am each day closing at 11.30pm Mondays to Thursdays, 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and 11pm on Sundays. Food will be served every day until 11pm.
    Manager Louie Scott said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Cork community.”
    The Linen Weaver name comes from the French Huguenots who came to Cork in the late 17th century and were skilled weavers. They built a church in what is now French Church Street and opened a cemetery, recently restored by Cork Council, near the new pub.
    Historical photographs, details of local history, information relating to events, historical buildings and characters of the area, as well as artwork by local artists are on display in the bar.
    Artwork includes a commissioned original canvas triptych by Eugene D’Arcy, as well as pieces by Fiona Kelly, Tracy Fitzgerald, Gail Kelly, Charles Mountjoy and Fionnuala Kelly.
    The Linen Weaver will specialise in real ales, as well as craft and world beers, a wide range of different draught ales, as well as bottled beers, including those from local and regional brewers.

    I thought the plan for a 'spoons in Douglas was canned?

    No merely delayed
    They have bought the old bank and have parking etc and aren't looking for late licenses so they will get it

    It's going too be a shot in the arm for bars out in Douglas charging €5 a pint at all times and closer too €6 after a certain time of the night

    I've been saying it for a while, Douglas has some very good bars but the prices will cause ruin out there. There wont be much uproar with one on paul street.

    East Village add 50c on there already €5.10 pint after 12. John O Sullivan's is similar price but doesn't go up after 12.
    These are good bars but I could well see the masses going to Wetherspoons till late and then into the upmarket bars to finish the night.

    Wetherspoons will decimate the quiet midweek pint market in a suburb like Douglas, I cant see a huge effect in the city centre with just 1 pub there for now anyway.

    Well given that the Mutton Lane is asking 5.10 for a pint of creans and 'spoons will be charging 2.95 its a bit of a no brainer.....

    Nah, that wont happen. That is unless w/spoons turns out to be just as good as the others. Sure why would you want to spend most of the night in a crap bar??

    Is the one in Douglas still in the works because the only two applications on the council planning website for that property are both dead - one has been withdrawn and the other older one is incomplete with no documents submitted?
