You can be skinny and very unhealthy. weight loss isn't everything.

Well after having my back torn to shreds and killing myself to lose lbs on the scale, I felt it wasn't worth it. I am afraid that the numbers on the scale do mean a lot to me. I know some may not understand it but I am desperate to get closer to target so I really don't want to go like a snail towards it.

Whats a running belt? I don't think you need one of them anyway....Just go for a 20 minute walk...then 30 mins.. the 40 mins (10 run 30 walk) then 20 mins run/20 mins walk and build up gradually...The exercise will help sustain a healthier lifestyle and will make you think twice about going over your syns....plus the gains on a bad week will be a lot less with exercise than without....

Hey...i'm not having a go/lecturing ya but don't be put off making a great change to your life just because the scales weren't good to you for one week...

(I'm SW target member- I went from football once a week to exercising gym/running/walking or something almost every day...)

You're right i don't understand at all to be honest. Sure if the scales are the no 1 just go on hunger strike and you'll be there in no time.

No doubt you're not just doing this for the scales, you want to look better, feel better and an all round better you.

I starting tonight and its not for the scales, its for the reasons above and to me more healthy along with fitting into smaller clothes, that really makes me smile.

I weight the same as i did 12 month ago BUT my body fat has gone up and muscle mass has gone down with the side effect that clothes don;t fit me.

And there's more to fitness than running. Swim, cycle, yoga etc.

I am doing what I can afford to do, I don't live near a swimming pool, I don't have a bike and I don't have a car to allow me to access certain things so I have limited options available. I guess we are all different, I want to fit into a certain size clothes, I want to be at target so I am a healthy BMI.

The figure on the scales does matter to me because when I was classed as morbidly obese, to see such a low figure on the scales makes me happy.

A running belt is used because I have nowhere to store my keys or my phone so I used one of those. I never go over syns, I haven't eaten a takeaway for over 10 months, I don't drink alcohol, I know I am a bore lol. I followed the C25K plan & graduated from it so I have built it up over time.

BMI is the work of the devil !!!! It only takes an average build. According to the BMI scale most professional rugby players are obese.

Well done on the Couch to 25k. I started from nothing as well to reach marathon distance so i know how hard it can be. I also know how good running and exercise is for the mind along with the body. Also remember just because the scale doesn't move doesn't mean you aren't removing fat ans replacing it with muscle which is a major positive.

On the belt issue, i have shorts with a tiny zipped pocket for my key and to avoid carrying water i designed a route that lapped a specific point on my run where i stashed water etc in a bag which avoided carrying it ( which i hate ). And as for the phone, i want to get away from the world not be connected to it.

I've been close to 20 stone at one point so i know how painful running can be when you're carrying weight.

Good luck with your continued work on SW and don't give up the running............in fact i run my own charity events and have a 10k in November. You keep up the running and i'll give you a free entry !!!

Thanks very much, I bring the phone because I like to listen to music to distract me and to track the distance of how far I am going. I will wait for this back to heal and then reconsider what I am going to do. I did look up the flipbelt but it isn't waterproof & not sure how safe my keys would be...

It is a minefield! I am going to just keep going with the walking in the meantime. It is frustrating when you go to the Dr asking what weight I should aim for and they always go by the BMI!

I know exercise is good for you but just a little frustrating when you want to lose more but the body is on a slowdown but I guess it will slow down as I have lost close to 7 stone :)

Try to log in to Slimmingworld.com, that is more reliable than the .ie address and see if that works.

They defo don't. Very few of them in my experience. I don't eat cheese either (rarely!) and there's loads of recipes for me

All the recipes are on the SW website so I'd suggest you take a picture of the contents of a book you like at your group and find the recipes online

The books are relatively cheap though and some are handy to flick through and find new ideas.

BTW down 4 today. At my lightest in about 10 years or so

I like hot food and am often out at meetings all day. Wanted to avoid sandwiches and fast food so I bought a food thermos. It's brilliant. I have been putting rice and veggies in it but soup would work well also. Going to try pasta in it tomorrow. Will report back

Stayed the same today but it was what I expected. I lost 6lbs last week which I thought was unrealistic as it was a morning weigh in and I normally go at 7.30pm. Its a loss of 9.5lbs in 3 weeks so very happy with that. Also had a massive blow out at ed sheeran so really can't complain!

Where did you buy this food thermos? how long does the food stay warm for? I would be interested in this :)

Weigh in last night and so it all begins this morning. As i've said my wife has been doing SW for ages and getting results and i've just been eating what she has made.

Now i'm doing it full time as well !

You can get them in Homestore. Like a hot beverage thermos but shaped more like a bowl. I have one and love it.

Otherwise it's soup in the normal thermos and a sambo made from the Be Good bread.

Has anyone bought the SW cookbooks? Any that you would recommend?

I can't eat cheese and am afraid most of the recipes will contain cheese :(

The recipes are reputedly all on the site, so there strictly isn't a need to buy a book.

Our leader encourages people to browse the books and note any recipes they like, then get them on the website.

Notwithstanding that, I have ordered the one pot recipes book, my family are sick and tired of my delicious beef stew!

It is correct to say that the fakeaway book and the curries are extremely popular.

    Hope this helps!

No they didn't tell me that but I am afraid after getting cut by the running belt that I was wearing, it has put me off putting it back on and going out running again. I tried so hard, ended up in pain for not much results so this week, I haven't exercised. :( I have lost the enthusiasm for it.

I have never really found that it accelerated the weight loss for me :(

Vahevala, i have followed your progress on this thread because like you i have a large amount of weight to lose. I have lost just over 4stone and have another 4 to go to get to my target. Don't give up on the running, it really will help. When i can't carry my keys because i don't have a pocket, i tie one through my shoe lace and then tuck it in through the threaded laces to keep it from flapping around. Works a treat and all you need to carry is either the front door key. For the phone i got an armband so that takes care of that. I have worked through the c25k and and now have my eye on a 10k event and am using the hal higon novice 10k training plan. It's great because there are three runs a week - a. 3.5km, a 5km and one that gradually increaes in distance so it gives you variety and you aren't thinking you have to run 5km every time you go out. One the days you aren't running, get out and do a 45min walk and you WILL notice the difference. I have also read that weight loss slows as you reach your target so that is something to keep in mind and if you have excess skin that is also going to weigh something and there's not a lot that can be done for that short of surgery. Don't give up now, because running 5km is an acheivement.

Thank you so much, I think I was just a bit down the other day and let it get to me. do you find it easy to run with the armband? my phone is a large one (galaxy s4)

I will be going back to the running possibly on Friday (after Thursdays weigh in) depending on what the weather is like, I do enjoy it and strangely enough I have missed it

That sounds like a good plan that you are following, I must look into that! Thanks for the tips!

Might be a bit of an odd one but I am feeling the cold a hell of a lot more than I used to. Haven't even lost that much, 10 and a half lbs as of last Thursday, but my tolerance for the cold has gotten much lower and I'm even taking a hot water bottle to bed. While we aren't exactly having great weather is it still quite mild. I knew that this would happen as the insulation went away but just didn't expect it to happen this soon! Anyone have any similar experiences?

Yes completely. I'd attribute it partly to the loss of insulation, partly to the godawful weather (that windchill factor! in July! Whyyyyy!) but mostly to the fact my diet is now significantly lower in fat than it used to be. I was feeling really cold the past couple of weeks and my skin has been dry too so I've switched out my usual snack of a HiFi light bar and instead I've been having one or two Ryvitas with a teaspoonful of 100% peanut or cashew butter (I like Meridian brand, it's very pure). It stops me shivering during the day in my draughty workplace! Still using my electric blanket every night though, which until I started losing weight I would have only used on the coldest Winter nights!

I've invested in a few light but huge scarves, they are great! Most of mine are the size of a double bed, I resent needing to wear them in July but they do the trick!

I'm exactly the same! I'm always freezing now and I too have taken a hot water bottle to bed with me in recent weeks!
It kind of makes me miss the blubber a little. I'd say I'm cold 90% of the time now and with the air con in work it's not unusual for me to be covered in goosebumps at my desk :(

It's the taste. I can taste the sea in it! The bones freak me out a little.

I got a Tuna steak before and I didn't enjoy it at all. I tried a pan fried Salmon last week and added herbs to it and nope, still couldn't finish it.

Stick with a plain white fish and make a nice curry paste. Cover the fish in the paste and bake in the oven...............YUM

I tried prawns too and ick! I tried raw fish when I was in America last year. Didn't like it at all but my host family were delighted that I didn't refuse to try it as they knew I didn't like fish.
