Just back from a spirited drive out to Enniskerry, up to the Sally Gap, then off down towards Blessington and back home. Some drive, and a great day for it too. The EBC greenstuff pads had been let bed in for 300 miles or so, so this was the first drive where I got to test the brakes a bit more, although nothing extreme. Lovely bite off them, and a nice improvement over the last setup. Delighted with them.

How much would you say a set of decent partworn 14-15 inch tyres would cost fitted and balanced?

I've been looking on Oponeo, could get a set of 4 Goodyear Efficientgrips for €196 delivered (Or a set of Minerva 190's for €160) Would cost €30-€40 to have them fitted though.

I got two michellin something or other part worns there last week. Around 5mm left, 14", €20 each fitted and balanced.

Got back from a trip to the Honda dealership. Met a guy who works there and I told him my rattling idle problem.
Bring it on in and we will take a look which I did this morning.
Most of the were baffled until they started coming up with theories and the one which they more than likely assuming is that the previous owner was using the wrong type of oil which is what a) was causing the chain to fail and b) was covering up the rattle at the beginning which is why when the chains were changed and the oil was changed then the noise became more evident.
This was all speculation but they said there was no point in stripping down the engine to find the root cause as it would cost more than than the engine is worth.
So, they just said to continue driving the car until the engine goes pop and then replace the engine.
Not the best thing to hear with a hangover but at least they said it must be extremely minor engine damage as it's not even noticeable on idle.
Going to stick with it for now and drive it till it goes.
Time for a drink I think.

Im looking at a car at the moment, thinking about buying it tonight. Done a quick motorcheck report and it has told me that it was imported from the UK to Ireland in August of 2013 (which I knew). Its after coming up that it was involved in a crash in December 2009 and it was a Catagory C write off. And over the last 18 months it has apparently only done 10,000 miles.

What should I do? Is a Catagory C that bad? Im very annoyed over this!

Thanks literally came into the garage yesterday, it looks like a coil pack needs replacing and the brakes are squealing, but it's going for a full service Monday, and through the nct before I get it.

Also has three months tax on it and three months warranty

Filled the alfa back up today to get sort of a base mpg. Got 31 mpg over 400 miles. 60 litres used. About 360 miles on the motorway averaging 120. 10 miles city and 30 on the backroads. Was hoping for more than 30 so happy enough. 35 should be doable at the same speed. Big service tyres brakes and the like all to do. Ordered rear discs in the motor factor today. Ones on it are warped and rusted to bits. Car will be quite as a mouse after.

Tax and warranty is good going. Have to laugh at the "green rating". 1.5 stars out of 5! :pac:

Dose after all the work that has been done.
Have a car with similar issue at the moment. Oil pressure is low at idle but not always low enough to bring on oil light.

Car left one specialist with a piece missing, no oil light on but intermittent brief timing chain rattle. Went to another and was told I didn't need that piece, that it could be replaced with a new version.
Oil light on at idle again.

Going to source the missing (discontinued) piece which even specialists seem confused by. Hopefully no damage done....

I just meant mine was a type s. Your one is a sport the type s I think came out later then to replace the sport possibly. Type s had a body kit and different gun metal alloys and half leather seats. Pic of my type s!

    Ah right:)

Mine has half leather and a spoiler I dont especially like spoilers

That and the colour of the interior are the only things I didn't love, I'd have liked the beige leather interior but it's not a deal breaker.

There are a few scratches on the car mainly the drivers done, probably car parks and other doors, but I've a great guy who will sort that

It felt solid to drive and was very clean inside, and I was able to get a comfy driving position in IT, something I've never been able to get in the ohs merc. And when I get it it's going for a full valet, we've a guy locally who is fantastic, did ohs car as part of his Xmas present, and he was annoyed with how the seats turned out and insisted we bring it back for him to do them a second time

Looking forward to getting, oh has decided to keep his merc, spend a bit of money on the bodywork and getting custom made seat covers so it looks like we are sorted in the car department for a while :)

Edit, that's a lovely looking car gavman

Cat a is the worst, c means that it was uneconomical to repair the car

So perhaps it was repaired after being written off

Well wear stheno. I was in a local garage a few months ago sniffing around the trade only stuff. There was a lovely grey diesel one with black leather. I brought it home to herself to see it as a car for myself but she told me to cop on, what I had was fine! Still regret not taking it...

    Thanks man.

I'm delighted with it, wanting an auto made it more difficult, this is the sixth I checked out

I lived in blanch years ago and dealt with the same garage and they are greatb to deal with, had the same experience today

My mechanic is over the moon that I've bought it lol

Have to rtfm now so I know the right oil and services intervals

Its a great looking car, any time I see one I really appreciate its road presence, I just wish it had about 100 hp more.

If it makes you feel better, I ran over one in Cabra there during the week. Dopey ****er was just standing there in the road staring at me until I drove over it.

You know those things can fly without their head?

What car is it and did the cops come out?

Also any recomendations for alloy refurbs in Dublin,? The alloys on the accord need it

Done a google search after I posted that so I understand the concept of Cat A, B, C and D. This "Cat C write off" was in December of 2009 when it was in the UK so hopefully all is okay now. Anyways, I've a mechanic coming with me tomorrow to have a look at it. Thanks for the reply :)

RX8. Yeah. They showed up. I showed them the fresh disk. Neighbour got a bollicking and they warned me to do it as soon as I got the disk next time, because technically the offense is not displaying, or something.

Neighbours sound like a crowd of apes.

That said when I'd the v6 Alfa and was leaving early I worried the noise would piss off the neighbours
Do you guys reckon I've made a sensible choice with the accord?
