Estimates for right hand mirror assembly quotes? 09 Vectra. Them and Astras are common as muck but it's the motorized and heated model.

That's Thuglas for ya, hate leaving my car around there, especially at night!

That cheap? I was expecting around the €200 mark, good to hear! The cap looks like it found the ground ok, but then they jumped on it for good measure.

Left it down by the eircom exchange on Churchyard Lane, should have known to be honest... At least it wasn't burnt out! Which happens occasionally.

Not just that. Leather seats, custom gauge cluster, modern gear knob and lots of other things... it's still not finished though as you can see. Impressive work there.

I dunno. It looks a bit crap to me. Why not just do a dash transplant?

I like it, cars are a mass produced product that are built to a cost, its very possible to improve what the car manufacturer has put in, being that the cabin is the place you spend most of your time it is understandable someone would want to improve it.

I don't think there's anything more soul destroying than a dodgy aux cable in the car. Doesn't work perfect unless the wire is bent in a certain position.

Need to pick up a new one!

That is annoying allright. They're dirt cheap anyways so I wouldn't keep a dodgy one in for a minute longer than I would have to.

Have you tried putting music on a small USB drive? That's very handy too.

Neither of the cars will take a usb, so no good. Don't listen to my own music too often though, mainly just listen to the radio.

Another day wasted due to a shocking car on donedeal.

Viewed the car on friday, was very impressed all around. Told the guy I'll check out insurance and get back to him on saturday.

Done a motorcheck of the car on Saturday. Found out that the car was imported from the UK in 2013, was a Cat C write off in 2009, has had 7 owners from new and I know think it may have been clocked because it has "apparently" only done 10,000 miles in the last 22 months. Very skeptical over all of this, I still arranged to meet the seller today with my mechanic.

I couldnt find his house, so he said he would meet me at a filling station. He then asked could we go to another area as it had a sheltered roof. That was no problem. When we arrived there was a very suspicious man in a van parked beside us, who didnt get out of the car or anything. At one stage he drove out of the yard very fast, the seller ironically got a phone call and then the guy came back a few minutes later. Anyhow, my mechanic couldnt find too much faults but it was quiet evident that the crash effected the car. The sills on the passenger side were complete rust and totally bent. Very bad job done in trying to repair it. The seller claimed that he never knew the car was in a crash, but he did know about the damaged sill but choose not to mention it - but he said say "perfect car, mint condition etc." We just had to walk away. And ironically enough again, the guy arrived back in the van and followed the seller when they went away.

It was my own fault I guess. I shouldve left it after I got the motorcheck report on saturday. I know for sure before I go look at the next car I'll be doing a motorcheck report in advance and bringing a mechanic with me on the first viewing.

Im still absolutely sickened that I left, the car seemed to be in very good condition and was the "sports" version. But Im so happy that I wasnt coming home with a heap of sh1t.

    [/Rant] :p

Im considering it alright. But then again, the seller didnt know it was previously in a crash but he did know about the sills, just didnt mention it.

... Yeah I think I'll report it now I think of it!

@mhackett102 why did you not go for that 05 focus 1.6 tdci you seemed to like it a lot.

Stories like above are why I find it very difficult to buy used cars you have to sieve through so much sh!t to get one decent car. And after looking at a few dodgy crashed clocked cars you start to feel like everyone is out to get you.

It was part of the reason I bought in a garage this time as I was just sick of going from car to car privatekt. But then I suppose it depends on the car and garage. Buying cars in the sub 4k bracket there is no point in going to main dealers, go to independant dealers or privately.

Why not name and shame? It might prevent some other poor sod buying it.

Very high km on it which is very off-putting. The mechanic with me today has told me that they are very troublesome with the amount of miles that are on it.

Basically the ideal car for me is diesel and with a 1.6 or smaller engine, which is also reliable. The seller today really put me off and it really does show that you could be buying anything! If I didnt do that motorcheck report or brought my mechanic then I wouldve brought that car home with me and wouldnt notice it until I come home.

    What's your budget?

I'd be reporting that fella to the guards. That van thing stinks of them robbing you if you had the money with you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

The chances the seller didn't know it was in a crash are probably in the same ballpark of me actually being a secret agent!!!!!

Most I can spend is €3500. I would love the Toyota Corolla 1.4 d4d but they are hard enough to come by, especially with my budget.

You need to be realistic about what €3500 will get you.
