You need to be realistic about what €3500 will get you.

Ford Focus 1.6tdci and a Volkswagen Polo 1.4tdi are the most ideal as they are both within my budget. Trying to get a Focus with low miles is hard and to get a clean Polo is even harder.

I wasnt going to post the link, but I guess you have :p

Pay particular attention to the sills under the passenger door. Doesnt look too bad in the photos but it would have to be seen in person. I shouldve taken photos!

The problem is half the country wants small engined diesels. Good ones still go for decent money.
    I think you're bonkers going for a €3500 1.6 diesel focus.
Are you doing a lot of mileage?

Ha that's mad! I had it posted before I saw you were even considering a polo 1.4!! Would a1.8 tdci or tddi focus be out of the question? They are pretty bulletproof. I have a 03 one and it's one of the best cars I've owned.

    Or:

I am able to get my hands on a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6tdci from a local garage which has had a lot of work done to it recently. Only problem is that it has very high miles.

Ive done approx 20k - 25k km over the last 12 months, and I reckon I'll be doing more over the next 12 months.

1.8tdci engines are great but im trying to get a smaller engine due to insurance purposes.

I didnt see that Fiesta, I'll definitely consider it! Thanks :)

Preferably - but I may consider petrol as I'd have more of a choice..

20k kilometres is only 12.5k miles which is low mileage for a diesel

    Even 25k kilometres

Thats exactly what I have up on my screen right now! Although they have petrol engines, they are suppose to be very reliable so Im certainly considering them now :)

Yes. You should get in the 40s mpg wise.

Looks like nice spec too. A friend had one identical only black and he loved it like a child.

    Edit: lady owner, seller: John!

It's that black polo sport linked a few posts back.

What about a mk1 focus, fairly reliable 1.8 tddi or ci units. I'm getting mid 50's (mpg) with my tddi. I'll sell ya mine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

I wouldn't rule out the 1.8 tdci/tddi focus. 2k would get a fine one and leave plenty change for extra insurance.

This is a nice example, albeit a tad expensive. Rear to have 16's on them too, I had to source mine in the UK.

Not finding many small cars that peak my interest, I decided to look at importing again, 2010 Suzuki Alto, grade 3.5 with 106,000 km sold for 1,368 euro at auction. Thats cheap. VRT is around 590 euro. I would say I would have it landed and VRT paid for around 3200 euro. Decisions decisions.

only problem is its so damn ugly.
