That crash that the poor woman died in was struck by a car being chased by the Gardai according to the indo.

Awful situation. Hope the fellow is done for manslaughter and the Gardai don't appear to be somewhat negligent.

Some good news today, got 125 euro back today from my insurance, extra year no claims maybe?

I got a letter from axa saying they had overcharged me in the past and their was a cheque in the envelope which included interest back dated to the time of their error! I thought it would be for hundreds but no - 14 poxy euros...

This is because some new law had been passed about historic overcharging iirc..

I'd be surprised if your HG gone. That vid looks like just the water pump pushing water through into the rad as you rev it. Leaks are hard to find. If you start the car when it's cold and get under it with a good torch you can see the coolant running from a leak as the system starts to pressurise but it's all still cool enough that it doesn't just evaporate. Either that or leave it for about half an hour after a drive and have a look then. Any salty residue is a good sign of a leak. Are you topping up water regularly?

    Yeah, I will try that.

Just changed my T10 parking bulbs back to normal bulbs from led. The led ones were blinking for minute or so when car is turned off. Thought they might have something to say about it when I bring in for NCT soon. So when I pulled out the cable with the led bulbs on, the bulb came out of the socket and is now in the casing of the headlight. Looks like there's no easy way of getting it out. Should this affect NCT in any way? I have the normal bulbs back in now. They may not even be noticed.

Right so today I got the news that the timing chain needs doing on the Accord.
I'm not surprised and as I said in the past I'm quite prepared for this job.
It would be very very painful to have to do this job in Ireland (reading it's a 1.5k min job) leaving tonight for the ferry and there is a Honda specialist in Warsaw who is asking around the 4-500e mark (which is an expensive repair in PL in itself)
Should have the car back up to scratch by the end of next week.

It is indeed expensive in PL if you consider Polish wages. :) Thankfully not for us. ;)

Gearbox reconditioning I recently had in Poland was approx 150 notes including courier, new bearings and labour. :D

Yeah that's a very good price but as you said in their wages it's daylight robbery.
Trying to find more than one specialist in Warsaw just to compare prices, bloody impossible to find any :/

I'd nearly make the trip for them prices :)

On the other side of the coin though, I put it through Fast Fit's free NCT check up and it came back all clear. Suspension all nice and tight although it needs ARBs, no leaks, engine all clean which means at least some aspects of the car have been taken care of.

Can any one tell me what my average mpg/l per 100km is?
I did exactly 200 miles and filled up 24.46l which has me completely full again. I'm guessing this is about 43mpg?

Was driving home late last night on the south link in Cork, down to one lane due to resurfacing. Took a look at the car this morning and it is literally destroyed with tar. Never seen so much tar on a car, on the windows and all

Yours isn't running on the devils juice :p
I'll keep track this weekend of how many litres I use up to get back to Warsaw and then try it again. I was doing a lot of mixed driving yesterday so maybe thats why.
Or it could just be a side effect from the timing chain.

My biggest problem is my right foot. ;)

    Took last receipt - 8.64 l/100 km on 1.4 petrol corolla. :o

The good thing of being sick (as I am now) is I don't have to drive at all, thus saving approx 70 notes a week.

Speaking of MPG, I'm loving my move out to meath. The old fiesta is doing approx 56.5mpg on the last fillup.

The 530d does 40-42mpg bear, that does seem low.
Of course pushing it on sees 37mpg and in towns I've seen 23mpg!

Anyone know how to rectify this problem. The screen is missing parts of digits. Window was left open for a few days but the car was in the garage, so it only got slightly damp. Is a new screen needed?

It's not just that point btw, it's across the board.

If its anything like my one, whats happened is the ribbon behind the screen has come loose and hence the missing pixels

It's working fine now  As long as it stays working until it goes out the gap. I don't care how it works after that :D

Oh my god I've to go to a mechanic again to get the bloody sump nut off my car. Whatever genius had it before me rounded the **** out of it and it's not budging. I've spent the last hour trying to get it off

Nothing worse than doing the first service on a car. Took me an hour to get the oil filter off my dads laguna last week. Never come across one so tight. Wasn't even tempted to put a screwdriver through it. I've been getting a loan of one of these multi grips pliers off a mate every few weeks to do various jobs. Must get a set for myself. Very handy yolks.

Maybe, if you have a spare sump nut that is, cut a groove in the one in there and use a hammer and screwdriver to get it out? Last resort of course

Me and buddy needed to take out radio in my car and see connection in the back. I am looking to replace my stock unit to something with usb and mp3.
So the front panel had to go off and we found something... Something that reduced coolness of my car by 90%. Previous owner sucks!!!
