The image is 15/04/2014 so it's quite new. I've been tweaking it for a couple of weeks now so I'm happy as it is, apart from this front panel thingy. Not a biggy like but solutions on other images have been found. I just thought I wasn't looking in the right places.

I was working on an updated HDMU backup using a late May build but it was a bit temperamental so I didnt upload it .
I'll have another attempt at it in the next week and upload it for you .

Cheers, are you talking about a plugin or line of code here or about a full fresh image to fix it?

It would be a fresh image as HDMU images dont allow for online updates unlike Hyperion.

I will see if there is a patch so you can use your existing image as that one is very stable.

That'd be great, thanks. (along with a tutorial on how to patch an image) :)

It may not be connected zardoz but the display isn't dimmable either.
There are options via the hdmu centre plugin. Vfd control has no effect on the standby brightness or actual brightness.

    On a separate note though
Got a little RII mini wireless keyboard
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/261340738888?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Works fine on my pc and my little android cubie board
but does not work on the hyperion 4 image ( haven't tried spark yet)
In hyperion there are only 2 options for the keyboard virtual or text mode
virtual uses the remote to navigate round the on screen keyboard
text mod is like an old phone press the digit once for A twice for B and so on
Is there a plugin for a wireless keyboard that anyone knows of ?
    Thanks

Tried the keyboard in spark and it works fine

Anyone notice film 4 HD breaking up ? The sound also seems very very low. The SD channel works fine.

I take it you are on spark ( false standby )
Is the box actually in false standby when you switch it on or has it crashed due to EPG updating during the night or anything like that
how long does it take to start false standby should only take seconds to startup as it just kills the picture and sound output the box is still running
Have you installed any new plugins / have you installed a load of plugins
does changing the channel bring back the sound or do you have to unplug & replug the HDMI cable
have you tried changing the audio settings when theres no sound
do you have another HDMI cable on another tv you could swap to test

I am on spark and the epg is set to update in false standby so presumably you have hit the nail on the head with your first go!!
I turn the box off / on with power switch at the back and all is well again.
Why is it crashing when downloading epg?

May not be that its just a suggestion :-) I would try first to change when it updates to not be in false standby to rule it out
I would also try changing channel to see if sound comes back both on the amiko or the tv switch it to scart and back to HDMI rather than switching the mains on and off at the back of the amiko
try updating the epg or uninstall then test sound again and reinstall it making sure that you select hard disk as the storage area

Had to change my autobouquets to London SD last night :(

OK finding my feet with enigma over the weekend.
    Small steps.
    Got hard drive working.
Got channels going... Getting saorview with indoor aerial!
Used autobouquets to set channels up and add saorview ones. Then lost them when it did a scan over night!
Turned it off but handy to start.

Ab overwrites all the bouquets apart from Favourites and any below that so you'll need to set up the saorview channels in the favourites bouquet

You can make a Saorview bouquet, it only edits the ones it creates

when u go into the crossepg via epg button and f1 , select download now , it will download it then and there and updates will come when ur in false standby

the crossepg can be a bit tricky at times

After a couple of days of weirdness on hdmu image I've gone onto hyperion4 pkt image. On the hdmu one the channels would all go haywire for no reason. Just by turning to the next channel the bouquets list would go European or something. I would have to reload my setting all the time.
I must say I'm liking the Hyperion image. Much more options via their blue panel. The front panel display was fixed with a simple download from their downloads section. It seems much more user friendly so I'm sticking with this until it plays up.

    Both images are nice btw.

It also has the advantage of being able to update, pktblupanel, actualisations, firmware. If you get it tweaked to your liking be sure take a backup

Have done that already mate. Had to use the spark method of backing full image up though because the back up section in the blue panel was taking over an hour. The back up of the other settings was a 2 minute job but the full image back up was just hanging. I do like it though. In fact I like it more than the blackhole and vix images I had on the vu+duo.

Spark is the best way to take backups

Yeah I'm learning that. Literally 2 minutes for a full image.

I got 2 Raspberry Pi's lying around so I decided to put them to use.

1 for my bedroom, and one for my Mothers bedroom in her house.

I got to say the Vu+ plugin works pretty good, it's slow to change channels, if anyone has a work around for that please let me know.

Image quality if pretty good accept it can look like it needs to be de-interlaced sometimes and de-interlace is enabled in the settings, but it's pretty good for a 2nd tv, it's better than most pics over rf/coax.

My Mothers is proving to be a pita, the wireless signal is rubbish in her bedroom, so I got a new powerline adapter for myself with 2 outputs, and tried to get my old ones working in her house, it worked perfect here.

Problem is in her house the wiring goes from the sitting room to the consumer unit then to the bedroom, this is where powerline adapters can go a bit hairy, they don't like going through consumer units and they should ideally be connected on the same wiring before or after the consumer unit not in-between, I didn't know this.

When I plug in the powerline adapter in the bedroom one of the lights goes red and when it's red probably the best "I" can get in this circumstance is about 5-6 mbs.

So essentially it works, but HD is a bit dodgy, RTE "HD" streams fine because it's half the bitrate or quality of BBC Satellite streams.

Probably the cheapest thing to do is buy cat5/e and run it through the pain in the ass attic, that will be a real pain.

Another thing is a wifi booster, but I've read bad things about them. But all I need is a good 10 mbs to be safe.

You can use MoCa, which is ethernet over coax but they are not cheap so that's out I suppose.

On other problem with the Pi is that it can;t play mpeg 2 without a license so I'm expecting the to be e-mailed to me in the next hour or 2.

Other than that the Pi makes a very useful streamer for the Enigma 2 receiver, channel changing is a bit slow but it works and it works pretty good considering the hardware.

I would like if the Alien 2 could have XBMC rather than Enigma 2 !

The Pi can play 1080P at about 20 odd mbs after that you're at the limit of USB 2.0.

Dream EPG is a nice app. I use it on my Android box and it offers a full epg and is pretty quick to stream. Vlc player is required to stream.

The free version in the store is poor, but the premium version is well worth it.

I have been messing around with a Cubieboard 2 for a week or 2
has twice the ram and a dual core processor comes with a default android system I can stream HD using dreamdroid app and the default tvdplayer
problem for me is not quality its quantity
default app seems to time out after about 15mins but picture is super
no other player MX or vplayer works vu+ stutters on HD
Im using a cat5 network that I installed some years ago

I would say go for it get up in that sweltering attic with the cat5e between your teeth and be done with it :D

I use the Pi because I had them lying around.

I could use it on the Ipad too, but sometimes I just want to do something on the ipad while looking at tv such as posting on boards.

I have an Minix Neo X7 with Finless rom 1.9, works pretty good with the VU+ android app.

Black box works on the Ipad air brilliantly, quick and excellent picture quality.

Does the vlc media player need to be installed on a pc or is it the app for android version
    Thanks lad :-)
