Right lads, as posted a couple of pages back I was having trouble with HDD, not formatting properly and not recording/doing as it was told, however all seems good on that front now!
I'm still having trouble with EPG, when scrolling channels it doesn't say what is on any channel until you actually select / visit the channel. And if I last looked at a channel say 6 hours ago, when scrolling it would just tell me what was on when I last visited.
I have it set to download in false standby, but have also periodically used to 'download now' function but still no success.
This is running spark btw
Any thoughts appreciated!!

on epg when you go hit the epg button . i hit the green and select epg schedule to displaty it

when fully loadeded i get upto 7 days for each channel currently have uptp 3 days

now your hdd works it should work better as it should be set to hdd

I presume you are populating the epg with crossepg or some similar plugin? Make sure you are saving to hdd as stated.
I made this mistake many moons ago.

Thanks for the replys fellas,

The plgn wasn't running, so started it, and went to download now and got an error, 'error opening EPGDB'

When I hit epg schedule instead of now or next, that seems to be ok but you can't scroll channels in this view??

You can on the latest sky skin. You seem to need a USB 3.0 hard drive attached though or you'll get lag/freezing

In spark after you download the epg I seem to remember a force EPG reload button or something like that have you tried that

Have tried the force epg load, and no luck, have a sea gate 500gb hdd, (I'm pretty sure it's 3.0 USB) I find it amazing that it will show it in schedule but not what's on now when scrolling channels 😡

normally loads up after a second or 2 , is it still blank after hitting the ok button after being on the channel a few seconds

might be the time setting on the box that is wrong

go to system basic setting and time . set auto update to satellite and summer time to on

It will come up on bottom of screen if I'm on said channel but not when scrolling channel list after pressing epg. I have to actually go onto channel to see what's on

it will only show up on that area if you have been on that transponder ie that channel or another one on that frequency it may slow the box. its set up that only takes a few seconds . its not perfect but better than not having it

Thanks, yea I have created a Favourites list but the problem persists, once I turn from a terrestrial channel to a sat channel, all terrestrial channels go blank until I reboot. Very frustrating.

Further to that information, I notice that once I view a satellite channel it looks like the terrestrial tuner goes completely dead. So I did a factory reset on the box, updated to the latest SW, then this time I tuned in the satellite channels first, then I tuned in the terrestrial channels and it didn't find any. It looks like using the sat channels completely shuts down the terrestrial tuner. Have you heard of this issue before? Maybe the Amiko box is faulty?

Doubt if the alien is dead it may just be a configuration issue

this is a good backup I took when using spark you could load it and just rescan the terrestrial as you have already defaulted it anyway

If you ever need to restore from the backup:

1. MENU > SYSTEM > UPGRADE > UPGRADE FROM USB

2. Set upgrade type to “App+Database”

3. Arrow down to folder and point it to the “version.xml” inside your backup folder, press OK.

4. Press RED key to upgrade.

This will completely wipe all settings, channels, satellites ect and restore everything to exactly how it was when you made your backup.

Problem fixed, in reference to my earlier post about Saorview Channels going blank on my Amiko (#6384)

The problem was that when I clicked to a sat channel all off my terrestrial ones went black and would not work again until reboot. All of this is in Spark but I think it was happening also in Enigma 2.

It was not a problem with the box, I simply swapped around my two sat cables going into the box and now everything works as expected.

As a note, I am using an LNB that combines the signal from my saorview aerial and runs it along the sat cables into the amiko. Just before it gets in I have a little combo box that divides out the signal again. If you have a similar issue just try swapping your cables around, it should do the job.

I've been getting into the spark side of things the last few days due to instability of my e2 image. I've downloaded crossepg etc and got it configured correctly. This may be really simple but where are btsport channels and setanta irish sport channels etc?
When I scan all channels they are not there at all.

You need to format it to ext3.

Here's how I got my 2GB USB key working to record programmes on HDMU...

1. Used EaseUS Partition Master to format it as a single partition, Ext3 and Primary.
2. Insert key into rear of Alien 2.
3. Open Telnet and run command

fdisk -l
to confirm it is mounted at /dev/sda1
4. Type these three commands one after the other into the Telnet window pressing Enter after each...

mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1
cd /autofs/sda1
mkdir movie
5. Reboot Alien 2.. Menu > Standby/restart > Restart
6. After this you should be able to press 'Record' on the remote control and record.

I didn't have to go into that Hard Drive initialization menu at all. It seems that in HDMU only the Ext3 filesystem is supported, not Fat32 or NTFS. Using Filezilla I could drag the .TS file onto my computer.
