And Google dream epg, you may find the premium considerably cheaper elsewhere! ;-)

I use the Pi because I had them lying around.
    .

I have just recently started experimenting with Xbmc streaming from my Alien 2 running the image from Give credit.

Wifi to anything just does not work for me with HD channels. Not a surprise. Over cat6 it's pretty good. (Mad lad, If you are going to run new cables do use cat6)

A daily reboot of the AA2 is helping matters. I have started tinkering with the overclocking option in the image I am running and that has improved performance, especially when the AA2 is serving the local Tv on another tuner. Just a little i'll at ease with overclocking.. If anyone has experience with overclocking please shout.

I still haven't gotten around to trying over-clocking but it seems to work well and gives a decent performance boost. This forum talks about over-clocking. The latest version of OpenElec (xbmc on the Pi) runs quickly on the Pi without any over-clocking.. I found the menu changing to be fast enough.

And definitely install ethernet cable... it's worth the sweat and blood! Cat6 best choice to future proof your network although it won't give a performance boost over regular Cat5e on the Alien2 since that only has a 10/100 ethernet port anyway.

Can you please take all AA2 and RPi discussion over to the specific Amiko Alien2 to Raspberry Pi discussion thread :)

Powerline adapters are working fine for me atm, no problems with HD streaming. Get the powerline 500's.

Wifi works well from the Amiko to the Ipad Air via wirless N 150.

I will run cat 5e/6 in my mothers for sure, it's the only way there.

Is that not what this thread is ?

Streaming to the Ipad air works brilliantly even HD, but lower power devices such as the Ipad 2,3 don't work. The Air is a powerful device.

Some android devices won't work properly either, I think because of the demands of the android os itself. XBMC on the Pi probably takes up a lot less resources.

Lower power devices would need a decoder that can transcode, the Amiko 2 can't.

I must say I am rather impressed with the abilities of the Pi as a streamer from the Amiko 2.

No, this is the Amiko Alien thread, please end the pi discussion it's clogging up this thread

Streaming from the Ipad 2 doesn't work or HD on Ipad 3, the Air is quiet powerful.

Android is a bit tricky, as the OS is more demanding, so a quad core doesn't mean it will work smoothly on android. The pi works great because xbmc takes up a lot less resources.

Am I missing something ? we're talking about streaming from the Amiko no ? if I go to the Pi thread they'll say end the Amiko discussion ? can't win.

No, this is the Amiko Alien thread, please end the pi discussion it's clogging up this thread

This thread is far too clogged as it is anyway ,it needs to be spun off ,it must be one of the longest threads on the whole forum.

Well as I didn't start the thread I'll end the discussion, I don't want to annoy anyone, I just don't know how you can discuss the Amiko and streaming without introducing streaming devices.

It would be a bit weird if I say " streaming from the Amiko 2 via "***" works great over "***" If you config "****" and download "***"

    PM me for "***"

I'm not being a smart ass, sorry if it sounds like that.

Maybe we could create a thread titled "Amiko Alien 2 Streaming or Enigma 2 streaming ?

    Am I missing something ?

Obviously you are, it was requested by many of us some time ago that streaming from Amiko to pi type device posts be moved to a separate thread to keep this one from clogging up, which is what's happening

Agreed, which is why we need a separate streaming thread on its own

My earlier reference to over clocking was related to the over clocking feature of the AA2. I see the facility in Give Credits image and I wondered what experience people had of the feature.

I see that there several over clocking modes ,Standby, Dynamic etc.

I was hoping I might reduce the menu lag by pushing the processor a little further and wondered what the safe limits are.

Hi fellas, I was wondering if you could help me. I've got a $channel clearing problem that has just started to arise. It looks like the same reason I got rid of my vu+Duo is happening to my alien2.
$Channels will clear all ok. Emu info will be readable using blue panel etc. I can switch channels and when I switch back sometimes the channel will be scrambled. When it is in this state no emu server info will be present and it says server not active. It's as if I haven't got a line installed. $channels can be fine in the night and when I turn it on in the morning they won't clear. I've even disabled the autobouquets and cross epg thinking that was corrupting something. Sometimes a reflash of a saved image will clear channels sometimes it won't. Sometimes a simple restart will clear channels.
I had this crap for 6 months on the vu duo and got rid in the end. I've a skybox f5s upstairs that works faultlessly all the time so it's not a router or broadband supplier problem.
I tried a hdmu image last week but encountered a different problem whereby it would stop using my 28e bouquet and go onto something else randomly. Same thing on every image, it would work great for days then it would start playing up.
Btw I've tried difference versions of oscam and also tried it on mgcamd. Is there maybe an edit I can do to the oscam.server file to stop it happening?
It's doing my head in. Anyone give me any pointers I'd appreciate it....lee

Finally someone with the same problems as me. I've tried every image, configuration etc and I can never get it running smoothly. Sorry I can't offer a solution either, maybe we just have dodgy boxes...

That's why I bought a different box. I had this for 6 months on the vu +duo.
It'll be a stupid line of code or something in one of the images or some option we should enable/disable somewhere. I have friends who aren't tech savvy who have no problems whatsoever with these boxes for years. I've tried fresh images with zero plugins. Same problems.
    It's driving me insane.

some options work better via different emu types

Hi Folks, I am new to the Amiko Alien to please forgive me if this has been answered before but I have searched boards.ie and cannot find the answer. I purchased a new Amiko Alien 2. I hooked it up to my satellite and Saorview aerial. I am able to tune in all channels from both. Great.

My problem is that if I am watching a Saorview channel, then move to a satellite channel, then move back to a Saorview channel, all Saorview channels will come up black with no sound. There is nothing I can do to remedy this apart from rebooting the box. I am not using Enigma, this is all just in Spark. Is this a common problem or do I have a faulty box?

if a soarview channel is off and you tune in on spark yes error comes up its annoying

if you hit the sat key on the remote and select Astra 2a/2b/2d you will just be on satellite channels and if u select terrestrial u will be on terrestrial.

if you organise your channels you can avoid it . typicallly happens on rte1+1 etc when its not on

Thanks, but I have my channels organized, for instance...

Channel 1 is RTE 1 HD (From Saorview)
Channel 2 is BBC1 HD (From Freesat)

Simply moving from C1 to C2 and back to C1 again, I get a blank screen, and from then on all Saorview channels are blank. I get the little box at the bottom of the screen that tells me its RTE 1 HD and tells me what is on but there is no picture or sound, just black. I don't see any errors on screen either.

it will work better of you use the satellite channels and saorview in seperate lists and not mixed

i can link you to my channel list and you can edit it from there if that helps

Sure, please do, it kinda sucks you cant mix then directly though? Seems like a bug. Does this also happen in Enigma2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 lenehandavid

Also, I notice that when I reboot and RTE is working fine, in the bottom right corner of the info box that comes up when you change a channel, there are a green and orange bar marked L & Q. They both have some value in them. Then when I switch to a satellite channel and switch back, the screen is now blank but also the orange box labeled Q no longer has a value, it displays zero.

enigma 2 can be a lot buggier . my list has soarview /freeview which you can delete / secan to suit you location and have freesat channels 1st on my sattelite list , then the $ from 60 on , which you cam move to suit you aswell ill upload latest version now

    Tried every combination possible.
Even forked out for different nline to see if that was the problem.
