Would have thought they would do better considering they are populist and know how to lie and deceive people. But seems it hasn't worked.

Dead right, unless you consider getting votes a success?

Is it all about Sinn Fein or does the will of the people matter? Are you showing your true colours already?

How do you know what the will of the people is for coalitions, there are many permutations and I very much doubt the people will be asked to vote for the permutations unless the parties are clear before the election and that will not happen

In such times as these, I'd expect them to do better. Vulnerable times for some voters but it hasn't worked.

Fair play to SF, they did very well today.
For the first time they are now going to hold real power in councils around the country where they will have the power to reject the annual budget. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so it'll be interesting to see how they perform now that they've joined the establishment.

I guess SF controlled councils and council where SF hold the balance of power will be reducing the property tax by 15% next year. I wonder what services they'll choose to cut to pay for it.

Consultants inflated salaries would be an ideal place.
Actually the pickings are ripe in the money pit that calls itself our "Health Service"

Ah your right, an out and out failure getting all those votes.

The best way for you to improve the quality of your posts is to just not post at all.

They're winning seats all over the country. I guess it's no surprise that you think winners are losers and losers are winners. ;)

Well, I'm pretty sure they have approximately zero control over that, so try again :(

According to this they have the most seats so far, so they are very much 'winning' at this point

But he was subtle he just said, with no reference whatsoever ...

Local councils don't have any say about the health service, but I'm sure LAs do hire consultants to do all sorts of things.
SF will now be responsible for this spending in councils all across the country. I wish them well but I'd say many of their supporters are going to end up disappointed - when they find that the rhetoric doesn't neatly transfer into action.

I'm very calm. Fair play to you for managing to avoid being detected as re-reg for so long Keith. You put a lot of effort into weaselling your way back into AH. The mods will catch up with you eventually.

    Well fair enough.

Going by those numbers, the established parties must absolutely suck to be so far behind the "others". Hilarious.

The only silver lining I can see with this is, that perhaps they may check some of the hideously inflated salaries of the medical and law profession, and a few more in that gang, but I have yet to hear of where they are going to find all the money to pay for the social welfare bonanza tickets that got them over the winning line this time.

This was local elections - nothing to do with social welfare.

By 2021, the Irish economy and everything could be better. Sinn Fein need to make head way now when people are annoyed and pissed off and slightly vulnerable to the lies of Sinn Fein.

    Its may Keith, almost June.

Shouldn't you be burning Catholic effigies while erecting union jacks around harryville or tigers Bay?

Isn't that what you lot will be doing now almost every weekend night on the run up to the glorious twelfth?

Every party has promised to reduce the property tax by 15%. That's because the legislation gives them a 15% leeway from 2015. The problem is where does the money come from then.

I suspect the majority of independents will probably vote in line with SF which will give them even greater clout.

Sinn Fein economic policies are fantasy and would cripple the Irish Republic.

Not to diminish the breakthrough that SF have made, but that seat tally is practically meaningless at this stage and won't reflect the final outcome - the voting percentages show SF in third place, behind FF and FG, and all three of them behind "others".
