Presume you're kidding? Most modern TVs with HDMI would have a USB port. HDMI doesn't supply power.
    Fair point.

Not kidding at all, I read the quoted review and they had a cable running all the way from the dongle to the plug sucket in their diagram.

Most modern TVs have em though, thats true.

Just to clarify if you have a new TV that supports HDMI 1.4 then you don't need the USB power as 1.4 supplies the power. If your TV has HDMI 1.3 as most people probably have then you have to use the USB power cable. Some of the press photos don't have the USB power as they are using fancy new TV's for the press photos which have HDMI 1.4.

    Hope this helps.

Technically, it's the MHL spec that provides the power, not HDMI 1.4. I *think* MHL is optional in HDMI 1.4 so it's not a guarantee for power.

Indeed and Ranger has given more information.

Not all HDMI 1.4 ports support MHL. My understanding is the Chromecast does not support MHL so you do need USB power?

    Hi all,
How are you guys getting your 5.1 audio when the Chromecast is plugged into the TV and say you are watching a movie on Netflix!? The major bummer with my Samsung TV is that when the Chromecast is plugged into the HDMI port my TV will only output 2 channel audio from the optical out :-(

    Cheers,
    M

I use live streaming app for a pirate footy stream, would that work you reckon?

If you use avia as your default media player then yes.

What streaming app do you use for the footy?

I use the show box app a lot, but Avia media player is great for streaming that app to the chromecast.

The Pro/Premium version of this Avia media player?

I purchased it last night for my friends TV/Chromecast.
All that appeared on the TV, was their logo. It didn't cast anything from any steaming App for me.
I tried over 5 apps including the one you mentioned.

I then tried this version named aVia, which just seems to be riddled with malware, and requires downloading of codecs and other cráp.

Did you get it working on specific movies/TV Shows?

Seems to be a glitch in it somewhere. To get it working I usually go in to YouTube, press cast on any video then go back to avia and press cast again. It usually works fine then.

I've found it can be very buggy too. Usually works for me if I open the video first, then connect the app to the Chromecast.

Thanks, I'll try those. I did have the video opened first. I even shut down and force stopped a few apps including Avia Media Player, but it made no difference.

Why do they allow this to work, after blocking Allcast for doing the same?

    Will this become blocked?

EDIT - I'll have to try later, I never passed the app over to his phone.... :o

    I use this one :

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sashodev.LiveStreaming

The app is okay, bit sluggish on Kit Kat I found but works well for footy on the go...

Have a subscription dodgy URL in it and it work's well...

Got it working by doing that. Still a bit annoying, but most likely they'll have it fixed in the next update.

Oh!! Downloading Avia Media Player now! Excited about trying this tonight!? Will I need to buy anything form within the app to get this working and casting ShowBox to the TV??

Yeah, you need the Premium version.

No point in paying for anything now if the SDK is public, only a matter of time before a version of VLC or Media Player classic appears with casting functionality. Proper casting that is not the unuseable tab casting we've seen so far.

True mate! I wonder how the audio would be handled with say MX player and a local MKV file on the phone or the tablet!? Will we get 5.1 audio sent to the Chromecast do you think?

    Thanks,
    M

Google has just announced that the Chromecast will go on sale in the UK on March 1st through Currys. No price announced but hopefully it will be close to £30 mark. Wonder will this also come with a UK power adapter?

    Details here.

Yes, because developers live off fresh air.

I've never once needed the power adapter.

Been using the ChromeCast recently for Netflix via iPad but find that it's slightly out of sync. YouTube works flawlessly though, being a Google app I guess.

Well I never paid for a media player and dont plan on starting now. Let google pay them seeing as they made us wait months to get any use out of this thing.

I have heard that it can sometimes relate to the time and/or date bring set wrong on the host device.
