There's a particular config file that if you run it before the EROM upgrade software that should solve this.

I cant attach it here but if you pm me an email address, I'll send it to you if you want.

Reset target means power on the receiver you wish to upgrade using the switch on the back

The instruction for flashing using a Null modem cable are earlier in the thread.

Just a quick thanks to Tony,

I received my Ariva 250 yesterday just 24 hrs after submitting the order, great service.

I only managed to get 1 hour to play with it this morning but everything seems to be working perfectly, I'm delighted I can finally get rid of sky.

    Thanks again!

    Help Required,
I have a Ferguson Ariva 250, that I tried to upgrade and now have the dreaded “Ash” signal,
I downloaded the EPOM program and the update from the Ferguson website

I have tried to Flash the box using both USB null modem cable and a regular null modem cable (I had to resurrect an old laptop for this one), I updated the drivers and tried assigning various Com ports.
I still get the “Synchronizing STB’s Please Reset Target” message, but no progress bar. I also tried switching on and off the box at different stages of the process, I even let it run for several hours to see if that might work.
Still no success, I Used that post from STB

    “Synchronizing STB’s Please Reset Target”

You are using the wrong cable.

Even with the right drivers a USB to R232 will not work. They don't even the expensive ones that claim to have the drivers.

The other Null modem cable is obviously bad. I presume nothing else on the PC is configured for COM Port 1 which is the default for the loader.

Some of the null modem cable knocking around are not null modem cables at all.

    Here €5.

    You cannot kill these boxes.

Your better taking a few Minutes and doing the channels yourself , as loading channels lists can crash boxs

does anyone have a good side by side comparison for Ariva 150 v 250 box?

Just wanna know what the extra cost gets you, if you went for the more expensive 250 box.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,353 ✭✭✭✭Tony

    Only really 3 significant differences.

    1. The 250 has a channel name display on the box itself which is useful if you listen to radio stations through a HI FI system.

    2. The 250 has a programmable remote control for devices other than the 250 like dvd, tv etc

    3. the 250 has a card reader for pay tv services.

If that happens it's because its the wrong channel list . I've loaded literally hundreds of boxes with channel lists without any issues.

Thanks Tony - I've never been able to work out what pay services might be available. I've a feeling that if I rule out porn & sports then there's nothing left, is this correct? My setup points to 28.2 & 19.2 and I have an Ariva 250

Any time I have tried checking pay services out, I end up in all sorts of weird & wonderful websites which either are out and out porn or else consist of posters making obscure references to ways to do things that may not be strictly kosher.

I've no interest in anything non-legitimate - so, with the slots available on the 250 is there anything I can get? Bearing in mind I'm pretty happy already with all the free stuff I've a funny feeling the answer will be no.

Most people I know that use the card reader tend to be for things like Polsat etc You can also use a sky card but it has to go back into a sky box to update so not much point I think.

    Hi Tony,
I think I will go ahead and order the Ariva 150 or 250 box with an outdoor ariel, can you tell me the difference between the two? Also can I attach an external HDD to record programs?

Also how do I avail of this boards.ie discount?

    Thanks a million.

Yes you can, ferguson recommend self powered drives and I think theres a thread that lists all the drives that are known to work ok

Just use the coupon code Boards.ie , hope the mods don't mind me posting this as commercial interaction is not generally allowed in this forum.

    Hi,

I just hooked up my Ariva 250 to the net using the w02 wifi adapter. I then attempted to update the firmware but after the install the box stopped working and the letters AZH are displayed on the box.

I've tried unplugging the box but had no joy. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

For future reference, I always update the firmware by downloading it from the Ferguson site to my laptop and from there to a USB and then upload it to the box with the USB and never had any problems. Im not sure if the update facility on the box actually works - perhaps Tony/Nowso can clarify

Also, as Nowso says, do a factory reset before the update.

there is an update via internet option. the twice mine crashed was using a downloaded version via usb.

on another note , the terrestrial tuner is very poor with picking up uk freeview , tends to break up more than other tuners

    Thanks Nowso,

I updated the firmware using the null modem cable & it's working perfectly.

Do you have any idea where I can pick up the channel listing / favourites for uk sat fta (eurobird1) without having it manually create the lists.

    Cheers

Morning, I updated my 250 yesterday with the latest firmware. Im having problems with my channel orders, I sorted them manually, saved them, and they are fine. When I return later, the channel order is all mixed up again. Anyone had similar problems?
