Just A heads up but Ive been trying to upgrade from verson1.27B3 to 1.27B6 with no luck.

First i got one box ASH'd when i tried to upgrade bringing over my channel list. I was able to restore (thanks to Tony) using a good box running 1.27B3, and though oh must be my channel list that caused it....

when i tried upgrading again with the file from the ftp site(Network upgrade) it just says burning failed?

Anyway im going to wait for the next release and try again.
if anyone had success going from 1.27B3 to B6 let me know.

    cheers

It shouldn't cause crashing . I load every box we sell with a channel list and don't experience this.

can you get a faulty null cable been trying to sort my box with cable and eeprom software followed all instructions but it says reset target any ideas cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,425 ✭✭✭Avns1s

You should start running the software with your box turned off and when it says "reset target", that your cue to turn the box on. You may then have to wait a couple of mins before it appears to do anything.

    Is this what you're doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 blueco

yeah i might be a small bit impatient and not giving it time to do anything try again

Is it a USB to null modem cable? These are very hit and miss, which is why I keep an old win xp computer with serial port in working order, just for this job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 blueco

no female to female cable and using xp grrrr

ok, should work so. Does the box do anything when you boot it without the cable attached?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 blueco

    yeah displays ash

your port number needs to be the right one and you may need to update your drivers that run it

Lets assume you have a null modem cable (there a lot of Serial Cables out there passing themselves off as Null modems:)).

Go into Device Manager (open windows explorer, right click on Computer and click Manage) Then go to Port and under Com and LPT was is the Com Port set to ? Is it 1 or 3 ?

The software for reflashing the box must have the corresponding Com Port which you can change in the sofware. Follow the rest of the instructions from there.

Let me know how you get on.

When is a null cable not a null cable? Any one got any tests or way of identifying them from a serial cable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,346 ✭✭✭✭Tony

You could use a cable tester or a multimeter and map the pins but hardly worth the bother if you can get hold of a another cable and retry.

Hi Avns1s I noticed that you are based in Mayo and I was wondering if you can help I have a Ferguson ariva 202E which I somehow seem to have bricked and do not have the hardware or the technical knowledge to unbrick it, do you do repairs and if so do you have a shop or workshop that I could bring it to as I am from Mayo myself
    thanks in advance

    (can't post urls directly - i'm a new user)

    Hi there

    Here's my setup

I've an older dish fitted with a single lnb cable running down to an ancient SD Panasonic sky-decoder box getting FreesatFromSky - using a N.I. card.
I've also got a Ferguson 252 box hooked up solely to a Saorview aerial.
Both boxes are hooked up to a single TV

I've tested the Ferguson with the UK Freesat and Nowsos firmware above. The 252 works quite well, but this involves switching the cables back and forth at the rear when i want to return to the Panasonic.

I'd like to keep both boxes hooked to the single LNB.(don't ask why!)
I've been informed my best option is to replace the LNB on the dish with a quad-LNB and run an additional cable down thru the attic, through the walls and into the living room to hook up to the second box
Something like quad-LNB adapator kit TVTradeDave sells

Due to age and restricted access to the roofspace, this isn't really an option for me.

Doing a bit of googling, i've come across this:
A satellite priority switch - basically i hook it up behind the TV - and connect both boxes. When the primary box is off, the signal goes to the secondary box.

(can't post links - it's a goobay® SAT Priority Switch distributed switches 1 LNB to 2 Satellite Receiver on ebay)

Has anybody experience with these - they seem the ideal solution for my situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,425 ✭✭✭Avns1s

I don't think there anything you can get on the Freesat NI box that you wouldn't be able to get on the 252. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It might be that with a bit of tweaking your channel list, you might be able to make the old Panasonic box redundant and use the connection to the 252 exclusively.

Basically you want a feed from one LNB to feed two receivers so an LNB splitter.

I can't find the item you mentioned on ebay but found this. Probably the same thing.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/electronics/dp/B0051C2BWC

But I have to ask, why or why keep the Panasonic - why two boxes when one will do? :)

This one is a lot cheaper:

The main user will be someone absolutely stuck in their ways - they HATE change. This way i can gradually transition them over to the new Ferguson 252 box. The only feature missing seems to be the digital text - the 252 doesn't support it very well - they *must* have their football news and scores

The 'item mentioned on ebay' is a priority switch, not simply a splitter like the 'a lot cheaper' one you linked to.

The priority switch should do what you need, not that I've personal experience of them.

Just make sure the Sky box is connected to the 'slave' port, as it will continue to send power to the LNB unless it's completely powered off at the wall.

There's a whole other thread dedicated to the 252 , this thread will quickly become useless if guys post about other models or topics not specifically related to the 250.

Can I ask respectfully that we stay on topic please

Will the 250 definitely play a load of mp4s if I stick them on the USB or should I convert them to something first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Another question, is there a specific video folder on the USB or do I just drag them to root?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,380 ✭✭✭STB.

@ Thargor. Yes it plays MP4 files. It can play anything that is H264 based regardless of the container. Like they play MKV files also. It also plays DivX as ferguson actually bought a licence so that codec is understood in the software. No. You do not have to recode. The file can be anywhere within a directory structure, files are browsable.

Below is the 252 below (the main difference is the 252 has a dvb-t2 tuner which would be handy only if in a Border area as the UK use dvb-t2). The media system on the 250 is the same. You have to click across to video and then browse to the folder. Obviously going to the top and clicking the "/.." will bring you to the parent directory (or directory up, so folders are all browsable)

Could any of you post a current channel list for the 250 please? I've been away for a while and a lot of the the channel TP's have changed. Could do without the hassle of manually re-arranging channels for the day!

    I'm running V 1.27B8 patched.

TEXT. All you need to do is add the scrambled RTE1 channel off Astra 28.2 to your favourites list. You can rename the channel TEXT.

Whilst the channel is scrambled the teletext service isnt. Simply pressing the text button whilst on this channel will enable the text function on screen.

This is a handy workaround for all Ferguson users.

As long as RTE continue with WST on satellite broadcasts. I does not work for the BBC.

    Hi,

Yes I have redone this box before using a null modem cable when i flashed it before. Yes a patched version would suit fine! It would be of massive help to me if you were able to upload your list :)

    Thank You

alright i have uploaded a 28.2 channel list for the 250 that will only work on version 1.27b9* firmware - preferably the patched

1st 100 free - then sports , entertainment etc etc . iits a base to work from

you just need to retune soarview and edit a channel or 2 when needed , i think the new box office needs adding

Hi folks - a plea for help.

I'm using a 250 combo since Aug 2012, been going fine but...
Last night [Saturday 28th Nov] the screen suddenly went black and the 'No Signal' floating box appeared.
[I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but the channel id still appears on the led display and if I change the channel the id name changes as normal]
I switched off the box [rocker switch at back], killed the power & switched back on - nothing.
I tried the box in a 2nd room that also has a 250 combo that's working fine - again, nothing.

This seems terminal [?] so, any ideas guys?
    is this a usual occurrence?
is there any point in a repair or is it a case of [like seemingly everything else] trash and get a new box?
If the latter, then is a 250 combo still available or has it been updated/renamed or whatever.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated folks!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,976 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

the 250 is not available new theres 153 253 . which are different

    looks like a tuner issue

you can try reflash your firmware as a last resort , probably might not help but worth doing before you move onto a new box , some might be around second hand . but it might be best to move onto a linux box if not

Have you tried your working box on the same cable as the now non working one is normally - just to rule out a lnb / cable issue?

Have you access to the menu functions as normal to enable a firmware upgrade by USB?

Even if this doesn't work, it might be worth a shot trying a full flash using a null modem cable or even a box to box flash again using the null modem cable.
