Already have an Ariva 120 and another satellite box in my setup side by side

The second satellite box is failing so thinking of getting a Ariva 250 to replace it

    Could I have a 120 and 250 side by side ?

Would the Ariva 120 remote operate functions on the 250 and vice versa ?

they are the same remote i believe

No, Im sorry but they are not exactly the same. The 250 remote is more advanced and you can control your TV etc with it too - I think its called a CEC function and I think it can control at least 4 and possibly more devices.

They will do the basic command fine. (remember though if they are beside each other that changing the channel on one Ferguson will change the channel on the other too!).

The remotes may be different in functionality but they use the same IR frequencies being made by the one manufacturer!

    Thanks for the replies .

While changing channels would be an annoyance ( since I couldn't be watching both boxes at the same time) the big problem would be trying to use it's PVR functions

I've updated my Ariva 250 box to the latest firmware V1.22B5 and I've done another new channel list,
    here is the download link for it if anyone wants it;

    A250-V1.22B5-Sorted-Mar2013.abs

I've deleted all the junk channels and the channels are grouped by type.

As usual, my Irish channels (Ch 52) may not match your location, so you can delete the terrestrial ones, then rescan, and move from the end of the list to the start.

    Hey,

I just flashed the official V1.22B5 from the official site which worked fine and I got back to the menu. I then flashed the file above afterwards to get a working channel list but when it was finished the screen went out of range and I am not getting any picture.

    Any ideas?

What do you mean by out of range ?

I mean the T.V went blank even after a few restarts.

I just reflashed the official one using RS232 and it's fine now but still without a channel list!

Any idea why the one I tried would fail?

The file above is for a 250. Do you have a 250 or a 150 ? If its a 150 then do not attempt to flash the above file as they are not the same.

If you do have a 150 then to flash just the channel list from it you choose Tools, Upgrade by USB, then right click til you get userdb and click down to start.

Your safer doing your own channels as a few boxs have reacted badly to the ones with the channel list including mine

Once the channel list and box match there should be no problem. I've loaded many, many boxes with channel lists without any issues.

I have a 250. Was I meant to select some option other than the default when flashing the one containing the channel list? I kind of assumed it was a full copy of the firmware given the file size so I used the default upgrade setting on the box.

It's working fine now again anyway but it would be a pain to organize all the satellite channels as there is so many duplicates!

I should mention that the reason I even need to sort this out again is that my parents somehow managed to completely delete the satellite channel list! Probably did a factory reset by accident.

For future reference it is possible to set the parental lock option for the menu button so when locked the channel list settings cant be accessed, saves someone messing up the channel lists.
    Cheers

I decided to try that channel list again and this time just chose to upgrade the userdb. Exact same thing happened. No picture on TV over hdmi. I tried the scart connection and got sound but no picture. So for whatever reason using that file on my box results in no picture! Reflashing again via RS232..

Yes I would appreciate it. I assume there's no problem downgrading the firmware?

Just downloaded the Ariva channel editor too so it looks like I can read and write channel lists using udf files over RS232. Maybe that's a better option.

You know if you only have one sat eg Astra 28, it should not take you more than 45 minutes to edit/make your very own station list.

Just thought Id let you know how long it takes going by how long it takes me - others maybe faster and others maybe be slower.

You do not use an Null modem cable for flashing a channel list to the box. The Null modem cable is only for recovery of the box.

Use a USb stick. And if you are only flashing a channel list. You go to the tools menu, upgrade by USB and choose UserDB (not allcode&bootloader).

once you get use to remote function and know the channels you want it shouldnt take that long

It is a better option and exactly what I do when a new firmware comes out and you can use USB rather than 232 . Here's an earlier post by Darth Maul http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=72892011&postcount=631

I tried the userdb option with the file I mentioned and it still caused the box to stop outputting any video signal for some reason!

I just managed to use an application called AliEditor to pull the channel list from the box over RS232 but unfortunately the channel name field is unpopulated. It does have index number and all of the channel ID's as well as stream information

Guess I'm just lazy and/or like to make things difficult for myself :pac:

Heh, look's like the firmware devs were in a good mood this day with the little smiley!

    ZMUPx5I.png

[I should probably mention I'm not new to this kind of thing]

Edit: I'm sorted anyway. I was able to open the firmware file containing the march 2013 list in the AliEditor and write it to the box over RS232. I first had to export the list to a udf file as it was trying to write the userdb to the defaultdb if I did it straight after opening the abs file. Also had a brief look at another channel editor called SatEditHD100 which looks fantastic for organizing into categories etc but it's €25 so not worth it for me.

Also interesting to note is the A250 can't display the É of the RTÉ on the front display but if you change it to a normal E it works fine. It probably only supports the basic ascii table.

Is anyone having a problem where the wifi dongle wont re-connect automatically after a reboot? I have to manually connect to the wireless menu through menu->tools->network local settings->wifi-manager, then select the wifi network, and then click on connect. Needles to say, but this isnt very user friendly, and pretty much makes the wifi dongle unusable.

Is there a way to get it to reconnect automatically to the wifi network after a reboot?

I am running v1.22B5, and in the same room as the wireless router, so the signal is strong. I am using WEP encryption.

I have reflashed with the 1.20B1 firmware and its the same story: the box will not automatically reconnect to wifi network after a reboot.

I dont have a solution to your problem, but I gave up on the Dongle and got Home Plugs instead. Not a solution I know, just a suggestion.

Thanks for the response iba. Yea, home network plugs should work, as would a physical cable if I put one in. I was hoping to try and get the wireless working though so that I wouldn't have to run a cable or buy some network wall plugs.

Why cant you run a cable, have you no ports left in your router or is the box to far away?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,051 ✭✭✭SchrodingersCat

I can run a cable, but for the cost & work involved I would prefer to see if there is an option to get the wifi dongle to reconnect after a reboot instead. Cheers for the input though, I may have to to that anyway in the end.

    But a cbale is cheaper.

If you dont have enough ports than you could get this:

Not cheaper for me, as I already have a wifi dongle.
To do the cable solution I will have to purchase some cable along with the relavant accessories, including the work involved in running it around the room.

    Thanks for the info anyway!
