Your logic is flawed. Like the people who say particular websites should be shut down to stop cyber bullying.

"Well, less people would be getting bullied that way"

    and/or

"At least doing something is better than doing nothing"

Or the types who say "Any publicity is good publicity"

    Tell that to Gary Glitter.

The logic isn't flawed as i explained the reasoning behind it - i didn't claim to view it as right or wrong

    MrStuffins wrote: »
Wait, is this true? Then why did people want Facebookers to change their profile pictures? Surely it did SOMETHING though no?

    Hmmm...

It'd possibly created awareness of child abuse - is that not SOMETHING

you think the the majority of people in Ireland let alone the world really give a shít about child abuse or any other thing like that in fact

It's not boards.ie where there's threads on 'should i report someone shoplifting' or 'women selling airfreshers, is it a scam' and people discussing mundane topics that 95%+ couldn't give a crap about :pac::pac::pac:

like it or not most people couldn't give a shít, so if some stupid game or profile pic change actually gets people THINKING about things, for even a second more than they normally would - it matters

More than research? I don't think so! There are FAR more effective ways of battling Breast Cancer than playing a silly childish Facebook game which the point of is to actually NOT talk about that or any subject!

For the large majority in the world yes, research only matters to the majority down the line, they're not at some prestigious research university/centre looking into it.

what matters more is they might go and get checked and catch any problems they have, then what the people at the research university/centre have achieved will pass on down the line to them in time

What matters more to me or you now, the awareness to go and get checked for cancer or some experiment that had a positive result on a rat, which may or may not work on a human?

What matters more, a number of people on FB going and getting cancer checks or reading the latest lancelot journal which they can't f'ing understand anyway?

of course research matters and i'm not saying it doesn't but the research will matter down the line for the majority, not now

and the point of NOT taking about it WILL actually get people talking about - it'd like something you'd see a child at if you told them to 'say nothin' or if someone came into a room and you told the person you were chatting to 'don't tell them', the first thing the person who entered the room will do is ask 'what are you on about' - it's a simple reverse tactic, how can people now see that

Missing the point that breast cancer can happen to men too, no?

How about the guys all put up a simple one word post of which ball is hanging lower?
    You know, to raise awareness.

I was the last person up on stage with a wigi board... He completely read my mind! Apparently my brain was easily persuaded with this kind of stuff. A spirit came and controlled stuff I had in my hands that I was trying not to move!! Craziest thing... Def wouldn't have believed any of it until now. Insane!!

it's not rosey as you put it, simple fact is, it reached more people than a boring post/statement ever would

as for the child abuse, well that would've been up to the child abusers to stop. I'm not sure but i think cancerous cells can't read, so they'll not stop because of it - i'll google it though

but if it i gets people talking talking about it/aware of it that's what matters

Posting a colour or a heart or a fruit is not going to do anything regarding raising awareness. Seeing a colour isn't going to remind you that you need a check whether you know what it's for or not. How can it even raise awareness when the whole point is not to tell people what it is? It was just another Facebook trend. Nothing more.

I might have understood if this was to raise awareness for something very unknown (ie salivary gland cancer or mental abuse) but it's not. Everyone knows that breast cancer and child abuse exist. In fact, they are prob the best known.

Endless updates about the football (grand, i'm at it too) but there was this one regarding a Red Card.

"never should of being a red card".

How hard is it to get that sentence right?

If its from a phone it could be autocorrect but Ive seen some outrageous spelling and grammar mistakes on FB so I know where you're coming from.

Edit: actually missed the "of" aswell

A pet hate of mine is people spelling "was" as "woz"! Now I hate when people shorten words in general but I can see the reason for it... what exactly are they at there though? How hard is it to spell the word right!!!

    1) Change their surname to irish all of a sudden yet do not use it in everyday life:confused:

Followed by a chorus of "u k babe?' 'theyve no lives girl' 'same ere' 'stop bais'

Suspect no1 might have something to do with trying to stay anonymous on FB . As in if an future employer googles your name they won't find your mad life as gaelige

No2 bugs me so much . In the past I ve ignored friend request from people who would pass me in the street. But then have been accosted and been accused of 'bring up myself' . So now I don't use FB that much any more

No3 good God simply put attention seeking at its worst

One that made me fear for humanity lately was
'Really hope (baby's name) is ok later, poor thing very sick on way to consultant now'
Ffs don't frighten people until you know what's wrong and mind the poor child

"my heart goes out to that lady on the train sobbing uncontrolable! just wanted to go over and hug her :("

    Comments: "U Should have !"

Response: "I would of looked a bit of a weirdo"

    Attention seeking much

Saw a similar one the other day, too. Someone(an adult) put up a post about seeing bullying happen between teenagers on the street (I do a lot of anti-bullying work so this is something quite close to my heart)...and yet there was no mention of them doing anything to stop it.

So, let me get this straight: you saw a bunch of kids picking on another, saw the other one breaking down and crying and it broke your heart so much you...did nothing. Except go straight home and use this moment to try and make your friends think you're such a good person who cares soooo much. Essentially they're trading in the bullying victim's misery for Facebook likes. I hope they slept soundly that night knowing how much they'd done to stop bullying from happening in the world...oh wait.

The most hilarious thing I've experienced:

I deleted a 'fair weather' friend's older sister because
(1.) I was cutting down on the friend list
(2.) I wasn't her friend, never spoke to her. She added me, I only accepted her because of her younger sister and to be polite!

Didn't think it was a big deal, right? WRONG!
One hour later, my friend wrote to me on the chat demanding to know why I deleted her older sister! She was quite hostile over it....

Within 24 hours, her older sister added me back. Her older sister is 26 I think:confused:

    I was just like.... WOW!

    :D
