Just bought one of these. Are they easy for a noob to use. Can I just plug this into my netbook and pick up channels ?

    Its not diffiicult in windows

    1. Plug dongle into laptop
    2. Install driver (comes on mini cd in the package)
    3. reboot laptop
    4. Install vlc or the blazetv software (comes on mini cd in package)
    5. Find transponder frequency for your part of the country and note if it s horizontal or vertical (http://www.mpeg4ireland.com/dtt-muxes)
    6. Input frequency in software
    7. Fiddle around with aerial til you get a blue light on dongle (try holding it horizontally and vertically)
    8. Watch TV

I'm using Windows 7 and it installed the drivers without need for the disc. Which was lucky as I also have a slot loading drive. I wasn't brave enough to see if those small discs would work with it!

I got an email from ellieshang telling me that mine was shipped on the 5th , so only 10 days so far .
I'll wait until the end of the week (15 days), if no sign , I'll send them an email .

    When did you order ?

    2. In most times item will reach most of the countries within 8 to 15 days.
    3. Delivery time depends on destination and other factors, it may takes up to 20 days. If you don't receive the item after 30 days, please contact us, we'll investigate and solve the delivery problem.

Anyone in waterford city able to get this to work with the ariel provided? Ive tried in VLC, blaze and WMC but nothing. I got a stuttering picture for a few seconds and sound a while ago but nothing since. Really annoying.

As I said I have a slot loading drive too and can't use the disc so therefore can't upload the blaze software. I used Windows Media Centre and had no problem though. Can't you do the same?

I'm not in Waterford but I am on the margins of a good reception area, so here is my two cents on how I got the thing to work.

    1. Avoid using the Frequency scanning function. Find out what the frequency for your area is: 482000 khz ? Set that as your frequency in the software

    2. Try using it upstairs and try the front and the back of the house to see if that works better.

    3. If its a laptop take it outside and see what happens. I'm not suggesting this as a permanent solution but once you get an idea where the strongest signal is you may find it easier to identify a place in the house where it will function properly.

I found that mine would only work in rooms at the front of the house (upstairs and downstairs).

just download the free trial and register with the serial on the cd case
    http://www.blazevideo.com/hdtv-player/
looks the same but doesn't say deluxe when installed

just tested there and it worked for me

do wonder at the price if the software is legit, my serial number has YXXA in the middle of it

If anyone wants a bit more control over tuning and extra features you can try altdvb
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ALTDVB

it is older software though and doesn't come with video codecs so needs extra work to display video... but will record and allow you to play back with vlc

    1. install drivers for the tv card/dongle first

    2. extract altdvb files to folder

    3. copy .ax files from "filters" folder to windows/system32 folder

run the "register filters" file in "filters" folder

    4. Altdvb will need an extra card config, extract to devices folder
    http://www.izitips.com/software/fix-altdvb-bdamissing-iid_ibda_digitaldemodulator/

    5. Run Altdvb.exe

    6. Click scan, select all frequencies, signal test, select frequencies with signal, scan

should work on xp, vista, win7 although video codecs is another matter

After adding Video decoder filter and Audio decoder filter in settings you can display 4 video channels from the same transponder at the same time using PiP buttons, or record one channel while watching another

heres a capture watching rte1,2,tv3,tg4 at same time

yes i have it working, but i could,nt get a good enough sinal with the small antenna that came with it.
so i unscrewed the vertical rod and wound coax from my outdoor antenna to the brass small threaded rod that comes with it and yep you guessed i scanned in all the irish dtt channels and radio stations.

is anyone finding the output power from mt.leinster low?,as my dtt channels are pixelting very bad.

Might be a bit of a stupid question but does this require an active internet connection to receive the channels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,657 ✭✭✭bassy

I was thinking the same thing, and even so I ordered one out of curiosity. Eventually realised I could get the channels by retuning my TV, perfect reception even with my 10 year old wabbits ears:D RTE NEWS NOW lol:p

Is there a receiver box I could pickup on the cheap that would just plug into my cable in my house to view all the Irish freeview channels or has it not launched yet? Not up to date on these things :)

If you have the right tuner in the telly it is free. This thing is good because it's cheap, it also allows you to record and timeshuft, plus you don't have to connect laptop to tv just watch tv on laptop. For a tv a dedicated box would be better option
