Yeah, there are regular emails from him, and he organises stuff (semi) regularly. There's a good spirit out here alright, it's a cool place to live. I'll miss it next year.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone see the gate beside the traffic lights leading up to rathmines road from their window? If so, you can probably see my window. We can wave to each other!

No; however, everything else that's not a fixture IS pink. It's amazing.

Is CH like an old dorm they used to keep for female students of trinity back in the day. It's pretty basic, easily the worst rooms in trinity halls.

But in general what are they like, presumably theyre the worst since theyre the oldest and cheapest

Cunningham has been mixed for most, if not all of its life. Trinity Hall went mixed in the early 70s, around the time that it was built.

The older rooms were in what is now called Oldham House, and in the Greenane building, etc.

Cunningham is like any random 60s/70s student residence - the type you have in the British universities. Each room has a wardrobe, desk, chair, shelves, bed and sink, but not much else. Toilets/showers are shared, and there are large communal kitchens (the type you'd see in a busy youth hostel).

Apparently there is now wireless Internet in the building; that wasn't there in my day! No cable TV, though.

The building is quite far back from Dartry Road, and is relatively quiet. That said, it's also a wee bit away from the rest of Halls and from the main offices etc (that said, it's just an extra 60 seconds, nothing major).

I liked it, but it's quite different to the rest of Halls, very different style of architecture. It's clean and well-maintained, but very 70s!

Any Photos of the place? Strangely on the web theres photos of the Modern apts but not the old.
Also, do halls have therse massive barriers like on campus that you couldn't, say, hop over if you wanted to sneek a few mates in after a night out??

    Cunningham is great.

I went out with a girl from there for a while and I loved the place..
I lived in the modern flats for two years and found that they could be quite soulless.. Cunningham was very cosy.. walls a bit thin though

you could just pop out and wander around if you have the time.

from a basic knowledge of last year, and greater this year, the majority of students who seek residence in cunningham are international students. if you're a person who like their comforts then the new apartments are for you. cunningham is unique to Halls in that students there are very united and stick together and have a fantastic community within themselves.

for some reason there has never been a great mixing between students of cunningham and the new apartment blocks.

as regards photos, there should be one picture that shows what the outside looks like, which is basically red brick 3 storey building with loads of windows ! accomodation office never publish pictures of interior (surprise surprise!) but basically consists of your bedroom which as pointed out already has desk, shelves, wardrobe, sink. there is a shower room and bathroom shared between 7 i believe. and then a communal kitchen and common room/sitting room which is shared between 12 or 14

Hmm, I had photos somewhere from a party I was at there a while back, but I seem to have mislaid them..

Just take the Luas out and have a look around, it's not exactly difficult to get in. Ask someone in a friendly way if you can peek in their door, they probably won't care.

I stayed in Trinity Hall in the first year that it was opened up to males, 1972 !

Yes, I'm ancient. In those days the basement floor of the main building was nicknamed "the dungeons" because it had bars on all the windows. Out front there was a park with trees, flower beds and football and hockey pitches. It was an oasis of calm - except when we tried to sneak in overnight guests and hide them from the night watchman (who could usually be bribed anyway with a bottle or two of Uncle Arthur's).

I made some great friends there from several countries and most of us have kept in touch down the years.

I vaulted the back gate many a time! (Wasn't on swipe in 1st year)
Also ended up flat on my face quite a few times as well..

If it hasn't changed this year, the main gates close at 12.00 and if a big group of you come back together one of the guards might wander out and check that you all have swipe cards..

The back gate is about a metre and a bit high (good for vaulting) but they put it on swipe access instead of locking it so again, easy enough to get people through.

I don't know if there are photos of Cunningham online, can't find any, and I don't have any. There is a reason the accommodation office don't publish pics of the inside - it's really not very nice. Some rooms are worse than others - I got a particularly bad one with a manky carpet and broken chair - but none of them are great compared to the modern apartments. They're small and the furniture is very old, feels a bit like a prison cell.
As for noise, well it depends where in Cunningham you are. People next to the entrances on the ground floor complained about noise (unsurprisingly) but I was on the top floor facing out onto the green and it was very quiet. The people on my corridor were very quiet and considerate and I never had problems sleeping, but the people on the ground floor were pretty rowdy. It really depends on what room you get and on your flatmates.

I know I didn't make Cunningham sound that good but I had a great year there. The rooms are grotty but that made everyone not want to stay in them (along with no internet or TV) and there was loads of socialising in the kitchen/outside/in the pub. You share a kitchen with 14 people as opposed to about 4 in the modern apts so you get to know a lot more people really well. You should just go out there and see it before you make a decision. If it's important to have a nice/big room and not share a shower between 7 people, you won't like it, so you should go and see it for yourself.

What do people think of boredathalls.com? I think it's kinda pointless...a message board would have been a much better idea.

Edit: I have a sneaking suspicion that someone put fibreglass insulation into one of the dryers as a "prank". If it's true, the person responsible, should I catch him (and it's always a him, when it comes to things like this), will receive a kick in the genitals so hard that they will be pissing blood for days, and may require hospitalisation. That **** is jank.

I never saw that before. Is it only for Trinity Hall? When did it start?
