    Please explain.

setanta cup final 2005. fights, arrests, abuse, etc.

we left Fagan's in drumcondra (ironically across the road from bertie's constituency office and his favourite watering-hole) after someone had a glass thrown at their head.

this was before the match started.

They are looking for trouble and simply put they shouldn't be allowed to march however this country is run by a fair few eejits so I'm guessing they will be permitted to...

And how many out of the 2,000 or so that came down were involved?

The trouble was probably a hell of a lot less than happens at certain eircom League matches....and no doubt at certain GAA club matches.

This whole idea is totally unaceptable to me, your talking about an organisation waving a union jack outside the GPO, the home of modern Irish rebellion (Cuchailin ll cry a tear). I appreciate its gonna involve victims of violence which is fine but how many other elements are gonna come down to cause trouble but even that aside,
WERE A SEPERATE COUNTRY FOR F***S SAKE, nobody has a right to march here except us, the citizens of this country if we dont like the way things are here we dont head to the Isle of Man for an oul march.
Ive looked at some of the posts on that site and they seem to think its their right to have a protest here, ITS NOT, our country, our city and if you wanna have a protest get the boys from Queens Uni to go up and down the falls.
Fair enough if they love Ulster, I love Ireland but I live here they dont.
I would never advocate violence but i think people should be ready to protest at this protest and show them that we wont take kindly to this S*** as long as the people who dont want to live under British rule are forced to. How many nationalists are gonna be involved in this "parade"???

if this goes ahead there will be war. all well and good for some to say it will peaceful, others will genuinely be against it, then there is the scumbags who will use any situation to kick off

imo this march is a bad idea

It shouldn't be forgotten that these people are sectarian, anti-Ireland, anti-Dublin and highly objectionable to any Irish meddling in their affairs. Why they want to parade here beats me. Like most things they do it's uninformed and imbecilic. I personally don't think anyone should be allowed to parade anywhere unless expressly invited.

It's really obvious that they're only trying to incite violence, surely the government won't allow it -- there's no sense in the march! It doesn't even have a point. I can't stand these Loyalist scum, it's like they're bored so they just start rioting and fighting to keep themselves occupied... The IRA at least had SOME sort of agenda, these are just using this political name as an excuse. They're not doing their cause (whatever that may be -- remain united to GB? you already are... why are you rioting?) and favours, and are forcing people who are 'on the fence' to side with republicans.

It has no point, the government can't let it go ahead; if they do, then I hope the marchers get a beating, they're scumbags, let them deal with their own kind.

They're marching on Leinster House on a Saturday in January. Is there any hope in hell that there will be any member of the government back from holidays never mind in on a Saturday? Unless of course their using the free internet access.

I say let them March. Yes there will be trouble but I'm guessing it will be heavily policed to protect the marchers. So they want to make a point that they don't want a united Ireland.

Well as citizens of this country they're entitled to make that point.;)

Those fcuking bigoted band of wánkers can piss right off, they have utterly no right to march here, frankly this makes my blood boil even think of it.

Y'know its wierd. I've never been very patriotic. I like Ireland. Thats about it. I always thought that the north can fck right off. I never really cared. Oh boo hoo, get over it and live your lives.

But now... I feel like shouting and throwing things. Suddenly its not "over there" its "down here". I want to punish them. And I have no bloody reason to. So I won't.

I can see the vast majority of Irish men my age thinking the same thought process. Except for the last two bits unfortunately.

Would just like to add, if they were citzans of the ROI, no matter what they were marching , would respect their right to do so unless if was for something clearly crazy like all rapists should get a one year sentance and all ppl caught speeding a 15 year one.

I cannot believe that the Gardaí have given non citizans the right to parade down our capitals streets in the complete and utter obvious intent to cause scenes of disruption here.

I for one will shed not tears for any of them showered in píss balloons or worse..

Shame on our nations police force for allowing foreign citizans to march like this on our capitals streets...you should be ashamed to wair the uniform if you have any part in allowing this.

Can we have a poll on this?

Have they actually been given permission to do it?! Is there a date set? Location? Any details, like?

I can imagine the discussion in some orange hall.

"Everybody's ignoring us. What can we do?..... March on Dublin? That's a great idea that'll piss them off no end. Maybe if we're luckily we'll be beat up. That would look great on CNN and SKY. We can claim victimisation and that we would never be safe in a united Ireland."

Can you imagine just how pissed off they'd be if they were completely ignored or cheered even. Get the Hot dog stands and the face painters out I say.

Its gonna happen on saturday 28 of January according to their website, they say they have a permit for it.

Well I'll be there... I wonder what the reaction will be...

Obviously not a pleasant one, but will it be jeers? throwing things? fights? silence?

It'll be interesting, to say the least.

i don't know, nor do i particularly care, if that's what a small section of soccer fans do when they get down to dublin, i've no doubt a group backed by loyalist paramilitaries and the DUP will contain the same type of people.

They won't have the balls to march through Dublin. The only reason they march through Catholic areas in the North is due to the protection they receive from the PSNI and the fact the PSNI remove the basic human rights of catholics living in these areas.

What I cannot understand is, if they love England so much and want to be ruled by London, go and fecking live there!

Eh? They are not English, they are Ulster Irish and consider themselves by birth and heritage British. They can't stand the English.

Let them march, its a free country and are'nt we supposed to be BIG enough to allow alternative points of view these days?

    Mike.

The right to live free from intimidation, a right to move freely...should I go on?

    Yes

    Maybe not then.

Anyway if they do march in Dublin you can be damn sure that they will be heavily protected by the Gardai if only to prevent things from getting out of hand.

Why are there people here hoping they get abuse and balloons of piss thrown at em?? That's what some of em want. Be silent and ignore them, let them have their march. It has to end somewhere, if we show them some respect when they come down here then we look the better for it and hopefully we'll be another step closer to peace at the end of the day. More violence will only create more violence. Where will giving them abuse get us, a riot on the streets of Dublin, more people hurt, more embarresment. I hope they don't come down but if they do i hope nothing kicks off.

what exactly are they marching for? surely there has to be some decent reason in order to get a permit other then "we need some publicity"

if they expect everyone to line the streets cheering, clapping and waving little union jacks they should have some big surprise. it's like american troops walking into north korea unarmed in a straight line waving flags.

they get what they deserve. i look forward to the show on tv...

OK then. I live in a Catholic area of Belfast. Religion is not important to me but being an Irish citizen is an important part of who I am. There have been loyalist marches going past my street since I was born. When I was younger I paid little attention to these. A number of years ago five members of this community were murdered by a loyalist death squad.

The first loyalist march after this atrocity had people waving at my community and shouting 5-0. Understandably this did not go down very well within the local community. The community then stood united against these sectarian marches.

Nowadays, whenever one of these marches is forced through our community we have the British Army and PSNI move in the night before. They block of the exits and restrict our movements. We can't get in or out of our area. I've been prevented from going into town to meet friends and I've also been prevented from going to work. It feels like being under house arrest and I've never broken the law in my life.

    Is this fair?

Who is going to attack them? Sinn Fein would run a mile from being associated with pitched battles on the Streets of Dublin. That won't suit an election campaign strategy. Yeah there will probably be the few disorganised young fellas but the guards will be well able for that.
