It’s sky that I left. This is the standard with all companies like this. Your final bill will be a credit of whatever the part month left was. I have had to call eir(meteor) in the past however to instruct them to put the credit into my account instead of continuously sending me credit notes each month for 6 months.

Update: Pure Telecom sent me a FRITZ!Box 7530. Going live on the network tomorrow.

I got a call today saying something similar and that a technician would be on next week to 'install' the box. Can I just plug it in myself now as I think the wiring is all there or have they more to do on install day?

I did this before and they were fine with it. if you're just switching from another provider it's as simple as plug the old one out, plug fritzbox in (the fritzbox that they give should have settings but even if it doesn't is simple to input them).

Do you have to sacrifice hours of your life and incur hair loss when it comes to cancelling (like they do for Satellite cancelations) or are they more decent in that regard?

Am on Vodafone 500 Office which was free for six months and then 55 a month for 6 months, total cost for a year is €330. Just out of contract so rang them up and the best retention offer they could come up with was 61 a month for 12 months making it €793 and she couldnt improve on that.

So looks like I'll be moving to Sky who are offering €30 a month/€360 a year. Before I do anyone know of any better current offers out there?

You don’t need to contact them when you’re out of contract just switch

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Didn't work anyway. The previous tenant had fibre but it's not fully operational yet it appears! Next Tuesday it is so! Annoyingly long wait considering I signed up so quickly! Thought yesterday was D-Day. I also misquoted to them on that phone that my house did not have external insulation when it in fact did. Is this a huge deal for installation?

Vodafone have a €10 discount for the first 6 months of a 12 month contract which sounds like the best deal going.

    500Mb - €30 for first 6 months, €40 after.

    1Gb - €40 for first 6 months, €50 after.

Sky and pure telecom are both cheapest for 500mb fibre at the moment . €30 for 12 months on 12 month contract. Been with both and no issues on either.

Just got email from Vodafone advising price increase of 7.6% from April.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭SocialSpud

I just confirmed with support that if you sign up today, that only comes into effect April 2025, in which case I will probably switch again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭SocialSpud

    Was it free installation?

I also see this in the terms:

Sky Broadband Superfast: From the 1st of April 2024, standard price for Sky Broadband Superfast will increase by €5. Selected Fibre areas only. Speeds vary by location. 75Mb average download speed. No usage caps. External factors can affect speed.

Free installation with both. In that case pure would be cheapest as they don’t have an increase coming that I am aware of.

just search onebigswitch to find their offer and number to call as it’s not on their website itself.

Is there any equipment (ONT & ODP) left on the wall from when the previous tenant had fibre? If so you shouldn't have to worry.

Just renewed my 500mb Broadband with Vodafone for €30 per month (was 35 a month for the last year) for 12 months, told them I was giving months notice to leave for Sky and they were happy to match the Sky deal.

Least you should be able to move before they increase their prices in April 2025.

I just ordered Sky myself, €40 for 1Gb.

There is actually, just it's upstairs in a bedroom. Would have preferred to have had it downstairs but maybe the signal will be strong enough. It's not a huge house and I have a wifi repeater too that might help.

I signed up for Pure 5 weeks ago and have had to call every week to inquire about the status, only to be told "next week" each time. On my last call, I was informed that the order had been cancelled in the system. I can't wait to hear what the issue is when I call next week. Anyway, if I don't hear from them again, I plan to call next week to cancel the order.

Was literally on the phone to them Monday and they wouldnt come anywhere near the Sky price. Seems to be pot luck what you get offered

I can't wait to get away from Vodafone, had to call them every month to get my bill adjusted because they didn't want to stick to what was agreed, not to mention their POS equipment.

Strange, I'll be going into my third year with VF and never had any issues, two very easy renewals then too.

Anyone ever have any experience with being told that you can’t switch broadband from your current provider because there aren't any unused ports available on your hub?

I’m with Vodafone on an Eir line and Sky are telling me that I can’t switch to them when there's no free ports because it would be taking a port off Vodafone that they can't necessarily get back.

    Seems very anti-consumer.

In Dublin just cancelled Sky cause it was so bad. Thinking of trying three which looks to be sim wifi. Anyone and feedback?

I wouldn't go from fixed line (sky / vodafone / eir etc) broadband to a wireless / LTE option.

I had issue last year 12 months at 30, first 2 bills were 30. then it went to 40 complained bill adjusted to 30, next 2 bills same deal, then they finally fixed it back to 30 for the rest of the contract. this year I due to type of connection we have they were the cheapest option. should be 6 months at 35 and 6 45, first bill 60, complained said it was bill before new offered kicked in, reminded them I was still contract with 30, so I should 1 more bill at 30 and next one at 35, adjusted bill again. this month bill wrong again but this month they issue bill for 8 euro lol. only benefit so far is they dont question just adjust the bills.

Do you need to give the 30 day notice to cancel if out of contract?

Up with Vodafone at the end of the month and want to switch to Sky so just wondering if I can cancel with immediate effect on the 1st of April or if I need to give 30 notice now.

Also does anyone know if Sky use the same connection as Vodafone or Virgin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,909 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Don't have to give notice if you'll be out of contract, as per my call with them yesterday.

Previous tenant might have had fibre from openeir rather than siro, they're different networks.

Ports at the FTTC exchange or cabinet, not your home router. It happens, not sure what to do as I've never lived in such a dense area like that.

If you were on fttc with sky itll be on the openeir network, so unless you get siro ftth or cable from virgin it'll likely be the same with anyone.
