So thought I’d throw this up, in a similar style to the electricity and gas switching deals available
one big switch have a deal for eir Broadband €35 a month and €100 credit added to your account for new residential account holders, if you’ve had eir before use spouses name which I’ve done in the past
I signed up for Pure 5 weeks ago and have had to call every week to inquire about the status, only to be told "next week" each time. On my last call, I was informed that the order had been cancelled in the system. I can't wait to hear what the issue is when I call next week. Anyway, if I don't hear from them again, I plan to call next week to cancel the order.
There is actually, just it's upstairs in a bedroom. Would have preferred to have had it downstairs but maybe the signal will be strong enough. It's not a huge house and I have a wifi repeater too that might help.
Least you should be able to move before they increase their prices in April 2025.
I just ordered Sky myself, €40 for 1Gb.
Just renewed my 500mb Broadband with Vodafone for €30 per month (was 35 a month for the last year) for 12 months, told them I was giving months notice to leave for Sky and they were happy to match the Sky deal.
Is there any equipment (ONT & ODP) left on the wall from when the previous tenant had fibre? If so you shouldn't have to worry.
Free installation with both. In that case pure would be cheapest as they don’t have an increase coming that I am aware of.
just search onebigswitch to find their offer and number to call as it’s not on their website itself.
Was it free installation?
I also see this in the terms:
Sky Broadband Superfast: From the 1st of April 2024, standard price for Sky Broadband Superfast will increase by €5. Selected Fibre areas only. Speeds vary by location. 75Mb average download speed. No usage caps. External factors can affect speed.
I just confirmed with support that if you sign up today, that only comes into effect April 2025, in which case I will probably switch again.
Just got email from Vodafone advising price increase of 7.6% from April.
Sky and pure telecom are both cheapest for 500mb fibre at the moment . €30 for 12 months on 12 month contract. Been with both and no issues on either.
Vodafone have a €10 discount for the first 6 months of a 12 month contract which sounds like the best deal going.
500Mb - €30 for first 6 months, €40 after.
1Gb - €40 for first 6 months, €50 after.
Didn't work anyway. The previous tenant had fibre but it's not fully operational yet it appears! Next Tuesday it is so! Annoyingly long wait considering I signed up so quickly! Thought yesterday was D-Day. I also misquoted to them on that phone that my house did not have external insulation when it in fact did. Is this a huge deal for installation?
You don’t need to contact them when you’re out of contract just switch
Am on Vodafone 500 Office which was free for six months and then 55 a month for 6 months, total cost for a year is €330. Just out of contract so rang them up and the best retention offer they could come up with was 61 a month for 12 months making it €793 and she couldnt improve on that.
So looks like I'll be moving to Sky who are offering €30 a month/€360 a year. Before I do anyone know of any better current offers out there?
Do you have to sacrifice hours of your life and incur hair loss when it comes to cancelling (like they do for Satellite cancelations) or are they more decent in that regard?
I did this before and they were fine with it. if you're just switching from another provider it's as simple as plug the old one out, plug fritzbox in (the fritzbox that they give should have settings but even if it doesn't is simple to input them).
I got a call today saying something similar and that a technician would be on next week to 'install' the box. Can I just plug it in myself now as I think the wiring is all there or have they more to do on install day?
Update: Pure Telecom sent me a FRITZ!Box 7530. Going live on the network tomorrow.
It’s sky that I left. This is the standard with all companies like this. Your final bill will be a credit of whatever the part month left was. I have had to call eir(meteor) in the past however to instruct them to put the credit into my account instead of continuously sending me credit notes each month for 6 months.
Hopefully you are not in a hurry for the money. Eir issued a credit note to me at the end of my contract last March. It was October or so before the refund cheque landed after a number of phone calls. It also included a conversation with what I can only describe as a male version of Mary Lou ranting down the phone at me disputing the credit. This was a week or so before the relented after I threatened them with comreg and complained the Mary Lou wannabe.
Sky in the past would encourage new customers to waive cooling off periods of they wanted quicker installation. I doubt any of the contract conditions are in the customer's favour.
Beware when moving from Eir: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058247649/are-eir-breaching-their-own-terms-and-conditions-here
Probably get a credit on final bill
Would they owe you money seeing as the bill you in advance?
Positive. I confirmed with them last week before moving to pure telecom.
you sure?
from skys page:
Cancellation period
A minimum of 31 days’ notice (cancellation period) is required to cancel your Sky Broadband services.
Got the same email yesterday. I had noticed all my projected bills used to be 70 after my 12 months and then randomly changed to 40. I reached out to sky on twitter and the customer service person i dealt with said when they looked into it my offer had been extended and that they never seen this happen before.
and no increase in price in april either which is a positive
Thats only if in contract, if moving to another Siro supplier whilst out of contract the switchover is same as moving electricity/gas providers. Line is just taken over by new supplier.
I'd check that, usually 31 days notice to cancel Sky
Once out of contract no notice needed. Their site says they will request the equipment back but will let you know if that materialises.
I'd assume you don't need to give Sky any notice if out of contract but do they ask for their router back?
