I stand corrected so. It didn't look like a maxi case to me from that angle?

I am interested in getting Rolex DateJust as my first luxury watch.

    Is there waitlist for it?

Yeah! There is. I'm in a similar position. I went in to Weirs in February to enquire about a silver dial 126334. They said the wait is anywhere from 6 to 12 months. Don't have the intention of buying it till this November or so, but I put my name down, regardless. I went in this week and seems like they're getting a shipment of Datejust's in alongside the opening of the Rolex boutique on the second floor–so likely some allocations there.

I'd expect a 6 month wait to be honest, but it would depend on your relationship with the store I imagine. They'd offer it first to higher priority clients I'd say (unconfirmed, but this is how most luxury retailers operate)

Thanks so much for this info.

I left a message with Keanes last week and they didn't call me back yet.

Could I ask if you pay a deposit when putting your name down on the wait list?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,457 ✭✭✭micks_address

no need for a deposit. i enquired about a datejust in keanes maybe 18 months ago and they indicated a 6 months wait list for it at that point . they were really slow to respond over email.. about 4 weeks before i got a reply

Don't they sell for around retail? If so, why wait for years to get "the call", possibly never or at an inopportune time, if you can just buy it from a grey dealer?

should be close enough to retail grey.. i paid about 500 over at the time.. but for some bizarre reason pride and pinion gave me 2k more for it 6 months later..

Because they can sell it for 2k more than that again 😂

maybe but if someone is paying 14k euro for a datejust that you can buy at retail for 10 with a few months wait its probably worth shopping around..

    Thanks so much.

I will pop into Keanes given they are slow to respond to emails.

Price All depends on dial colour with the datejust .You won’t get decent dial 41mm such as Wimbledon or green at retail or any where near it. Ive heard of a few people getting Azzuro and white dial recently

Could we insure our expensive watch? Or it can only be insured while at home with home content insurance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,578 ✭✭✭beachhead

How many Rolex actually get released for sale in Ireland? If,Weirs or Keanes said we have 10 customers for a datejust how many would Rolex release - 2? I prefer to buy the classics-pre 70s Todays too chavvy as a very early poster said.

Check your insurance policy. You may need enhanced insurance if very expensive and should get a valuation certificate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,116 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Yes we have covered that regularly. On most home insurance you can add your watch as a listed all risks item. That means it will be covered if stolen from your home, but also if you get robbed abroad, etc. Most insurers want to get a valuation for the watch if it is over a certain value. Your insurance will roughly go up by about €100 per year for every €10000 value of watches. There are also specialist insurers that have policies for luxury items, you might need that if you go above a certain value.

    Thanks for this!

Does this insurance cover you if theft on the road side?

Yes if you have it specifically mentioned as an all risk item on your insurance. Should cover you for all risks, so even if you go swimming in the sea in Spain and the thing falls off your wrists and disappears into the Mediterranean 😁

I'm curious to know who in Weir and Sons makes the decision on who gets the next Daytona.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,116 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I'd say a member of the family who own and run the business will be aware of the sale of any watch that is worth many thousands more than retail.

Any updates on the weir waiting list? Been waiting nearly a year for the GMT II ..

As a side, does anyone know how the list actually works regarding colour assignment? They asked me to specify which colour I wanted, so I listed my preference. That isn't to say I would say no to any other colour of it became available. Is it worth heading back in and listing more colours or can you only list a preference for one? Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,457 ✭✭✭micks_address

If its any consolation I'm 2.5 years on the 'list' for a GMT... Id a datejust bought there when I got listed for the GMT.. I've checked any time I'm around there..maybe once or twice a year and I'm still on said list but who knows.. I was thinking anything less than 5 years be good going but others have said you'd need to have bought a lot more to be even considered.. so I don't know.

    .

5 years, ouch. I have a friend who has been waiting 2 yrs for the GMT, and he already has 3 Rolex watches bought from the AD (AMS).

I'm thinking to list for a submariner too, not that that is going to be "fast".

Is it worth going abroad? I do have other addresses I could use in the UK, France for example (I know they like to sell "locally"). Just not sure are our chances reduced by having only Weirs, or is it a good thing in a way if the Irish market is (presumably) smaller than say the UK.

Weir's are probably the most unprofessional Rolex AD in the world. And Rolex retail prices have shot up by 40-50% or so in the last 3 or 4 years. Leaving many of their desirable watches worth less grey than retail.

If it is any cosolation, I have a number of friend that have been offered in demand Rolex from Weirs, black Subs and GMT. Seems they are starting to actually work down through their list rather than giveing them to the usual flippers, friend, family and people they like the look of.

Waiting 4 years on Daytona, 4 years on a Snoopy, 4 years on an Aquanaut and honestly, if they rang me tomorrow I wouldn't take the call. But I gave up some years ago and have stopped spending in their as dropping big bucks on jewellery and filler watches did not yield any rewards for me…your milage may vary.

Cheers guys, I have looked extensively at the grey market. The batman is going for a ~5k premium. As much as I want the watch, I am not willing to hand over so much extra. Especially when I see ads that say upfront "only purchased as an investment, never worn". I just refuse to fund it .. of course this is all aided and abetted by the ADs for selling to these types.

I did try to list for the Daytona, whilst Weirs didn't say I couldn't, the idea was scoffed at so I didn't bother.
