Ah the grey market is not evil, its just a product of the previous price inflation and supply and demand issue. At the moment, nobody is making much money off the watch market in the grey. It's the AD's fault, as they are the ones giving watches to flippers rather than to you. If you want the watch and can pay a few hundred/thousand extra not to wait forever, then do that. Weirs tend to plicate you when you are in and then forget you exist. Some people get lucky and a watch appears by magic, but mostly there is no waiting list they just sell the watches to whoever they fancy at the time….On the day youu werre in, they had the watch you want, probably a couple of them in their safe; they just dont want to sell it to you today, but just maybe if they cant find anyone better they will do you the favour…🤨….that never sat well with me, thats not luxury, and the Weirs experience/potential profits are not good enough to overcome the loss of dignity.

Was in weirs on Friday getting a watch resized and went upstairs - had a nice conversation with a lad at one of the Rolex tables and stuck my name down for an Oysterflex Daytona, not saying I’ll ever get a call but found it a very pleasant engagement. Wasn’t made to feel like dirt asking for a watch.

im 3 years on a list now for a gmt.. i pop in about once a year to see 'if im still on the list' to which they say yes.. who knows.. dont have great expectations

ive done that too and left feeling id probably get the watch we discussed sooner rather than later on the basis of the interaction,

spoiler alert ive heard nothing since.

Weir's can't even manage to order a link for an Omega / Rolex bracelet. Do you think they can manage a waiting list even if they wanted to? 😂

To be fair.. Tom in the watch department there had been pretty responsive any time I asked about anything

Yes I absolutely wouldn’t be surprised if I never heard anything! But then I’ve never bought anything with them before so wouldn’t be expecting an allocation of something that’s somewhat desirable that easily! But the interaction at the least wasn’t unpleasant.

no I'd agree with that it's all very pleasant up stairs!

I’d say when I asked the same question in Heathrow T5 earlier that morning I got a more curt response. But they were happy to offer me a rose gold yachtmaster on oyster flex.

I would think there’s a better chance of getting a €30k oysterflex Daytona then a GMT at the moment.

If they ring you next week will you buy it? Are all OF Daytona solid gold, so 30k plus.

I love the grey/silver dialed white gold version (if they still make it).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭C0N0R

White gold yes id be 99.9% certain I would once it wasn’t diamond dial. Needs to be in the next 48 hours or I’m no longer in the country again! (Just incase you’re listening Weirs!!)

All the Daytonas on oysterflex are solid gold, cheapest one is €33.7k list. No idea why anyone would buy that from an AD unless the money is falling out of your pocket, grey is many thousands cheaper, but maybe they are looking for a particular model that is harder to get grey / worth over retail?

Chrono24? But perhaps not the exact model you are looking for, although you don't mention a reference

Have you tried one on, on the rubber? I find the strap underwhelming and felt it took away from the watch. If I wanted a solid gold Rolex, it would have to be on a matching solid gold bracelet

😀 It’s some money for a gold watch with just a rubber strap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭scwazrh

how much is your steel Patek on its rubber strap ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭C0N0R

Watchfinder are around £30k (€36k) for a previous reference white gold, what is the situation with negotiation with them? Would personally prefer the current reference to get glidelock preferably grey dial. Have tried on a oysterflex Daytona and a yachtmaster before. The white gold bracelet does appeal to me in either the blue or grey dial, but then again lack of ceramic bezel is a negative and again no guide lock on previous reference and old reference is still €40k+ from what I can see. If I’m spending that much, I’m spending it where I feel comfortable doing so also.

if buying to keep , I would pay the bit extra and buy in an AD . If you might move it on in time I’d go for best possible price from grey dealer .

    Also stupid money.

I was more looking at its RRP vs a steel one one a steel bracelet. Same with aquanauts when the gold version is 2-3 times RRP for a minimal amount of gold.

YMMV but if they have that sort of money incoming, surely you will be able to press them. I have only ever sold one watch to them and that was tough going, until I expressed an interest in buying another one and sending a good few grand their way. Then all of a sudden they were far more flexible and quite straight in the negotiation, the gave a much better figure than the sticker price minus what they had offered me for my watch, but that was it then. No further negotiation. But that was selling and buying Panerai

For Rolex I feel WF are generally overpriced and I would look at Chrono24 instead. Even contact the seller (provided it's a dealer) directly if you want to get a better price again.

Yeah I got that - was tongue in cheek .

Patek is different league . I would struggle to justify €30k on Rolex when that price point opens up the holy trinity

Glorious sunburst blue Overseas on TZ for 23k sterling. Would make a Rolex look almost like a toy 😀

is that what has you on the bluesy buzz again ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,542 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

you can haggle away with watchfinder, success depends entirely on the watch, the day, who you are dealing with but I reckon you'd get movement on a gold of daytona.

I'm waiting 2 years for a Submariner. Not a word from Weirs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,115 ✭✭✭✭unkel

No not really, but I always thought the Overseas was a magnificent watch. I seem to be a bit more into white watches these days, but I have to get that bluesy out of my system. Or could be a keeper!

Flawless Timepieces in Scolland have 5 in stock from 2018 to 2014 and a couple of vintage. Never dealt with them but seem legit and always have stuff moving. Pricing not daft but not the cheapest and will offer low if trading in from what I heard from a pal with a new basically unworn sub that was looking to flip for a GMT

'Panda' Daytonas are currently going for 8000EU over RRP on the grey market, not sure what has happened to this alleged reduction in the lucrativeness of the grey market and demand?

Who is actually buying them for such upmarks?
